Is there anyone who is as upset as I am about

"Couldn't agree with you more, Vash. I suppose poker is a sport, as bridge and chess are."
Chess shouldn't be lumped together with card games. It's 100% skill, whereas Bridge and Poker are 100% luck.

According to Heather's TV listing, the dance OSP & pairs SP & LP will be shown on ESPN2 on Mon Oct 25 8:30 to 11. Don't know whether it's AM or PM. Strange considering that singles skating is more popular here in USA. You'd think they'd the SP's for them instead of dance & pairs.

The luck of the draw is one thing but to know what to do with what you get requires super skill. In Bridge you also need a savvy partner and in Poker you need a face ;) Ben Afleck makes a lot money playing poker, as does Omar Sharif with Bridge. It's more than luck when you are in their league.

the fact that we will only see the long programs for the grand prix competition?

I remember when we complained about ABC's coverage. It seems as we're going to be worse off now. Doesn't anybody care about the fans of figure skating? Maybe I'm more upset than others, but one of the things I looked forward to was watching the original dances and short programs. Long programs only will feel that you missed out on a lot of other good and enjoyable skating.

I expressed my displeasure at the lack of figure skating coverage in the daily newspapers in a thread that I started a few weeks ago. Now it looks as though our coverage of figure skating will be diminished even more, as far as television programming is concerned.

Evidently, the powers that be do not consider skating to be worthy of mass viewing. Perhaps the advertisers are behind this lack of figure skating coverage.
I really think there is a perception in the media - print and broadcast - that figure skating is not quite a "sport" - it's a show, and it's full of convulated judging, cheating, and all kinds of snookery. These folks just don't take skating seriously as a sport, and until they do, I don't expect to see an increase in coverage.
It's a shame, folks, but that's the way it seems to be. :(

I know what you mean.
It probably won't work, but when I wrote to espn I specifically said "the sport of figure skating" and when I wrote to Lifetime I specifically mentioned all the women who are fans of figure skating that watch their programming and are not being counted when it comes to figure skating.
Like I said before, it probably won't work, but it's good to give it a try.

Let's look harder for alternative listening / viewing capability...

I started a thread awhile back in the Events area to share info about alternative listening / viewing opportunities. Listening to World's last year live via Eurosport added to my enjoyment of the season. I was also able to get some live video feeds, although the speed wasn't great.

I hope our more technical folks can continue to offer info about what viewing / listening opportunities there might be via the internet.

I know that listening and/or watching WAY slow and choppy video feeds ain't the same as seeing it on TV. But absent the breadth of TV coverage we would all love to see, I'm up for other ideas.

Of course, going to every competition LIVE would be wonderful, but I haven't won the lottery yet. ;)

I think it is good to send emails to the networks, but how many actually get any attention? They all send a standard, automatic response. On another board, for 2 years they had a banner about Michelle Kwan having won her 3rd world title, and it stayed there even after MK won her 5th world title. Many posters had emailed espn to change the banner but nothing was ever done. So I am not sure how effective emails are, but they are still better than not saying anything at all.

What I would like to see is more visibility in the press/media - newspapers, major magazines, 60 minutes, etc.- places that are visited by all kinds of people.
Make people aware of how FS fans are being discriminated against, in this male dominated world. I am not saying FS fans are just women, but the perception is that it is something that women like to watch. Any woman that believes in equality should protest against such perceptions.

Another thing that is needed is education- about FS rules, analysis, why a certain result can be justified, and if an error was made, why it is no more important than a bad pass interference call in football, or a bad strike call in baseball.

In the meantime all we can do is write to the networks and ask for more coverage. However, for them to get more money, we will need to change the perceptions at the top of companies that advertise.

I just got my standard answer from ESPN. (Thanks for writing, we'll pass your comments on, etc., etc.) Haven't heard from Lifetime. Oh, well.

I hear you. I was pretty ticked with last year's coverage on CTV (which used to be excellent) they eliminated showing the pairs short program. The CBC did a much better job when it came to the Worlds. I hope the CBC is going to cover our Nationals and Skate Canada. I have a feeling though that it is CTV. Well, one thing is for sure there won't be any hockey games to compete with for ice time. So, CTV won't have any excuses!!!!

CTV covers nats and SC. CBC almost everything else.

well guys, i recently got a huge hard drive. my boyfriend tells me i will be able i will be able to record figure skating on my computer. and he has a friend who we think will host the vids on his server. so hopefully i can figure out all the technology and have the CTV and US network coverage for everyone to see. *crosses fingers*

Well here in France they're not showing much about competition ...

Most of the time they're showing the top 3 in each category free programms and thats all ! 🇳🇴

Last year they showed a very little of the Lalique Trophy while my friend in the USA was able to watch the entire competition !!!

We want more figure skating on TV please !!!

I wonder what type of cable or satellite your friend in the U.S. has because I didn't get to see the whole competition last year. However, I must admit that last year their coverage was a lot better than what I imagine we'll get this time around in the Grand Prix coverage.
I always enjoy the kiss'n'cry area decorations that Trophee Lalique has. (Different name now.) They are so inovative and colorful.

Tou're right the kiss n cry area is always different and original :)
As for the tv stations she got ... well I'm not sure but I think she got ABC ESPN ... Well I better check !
