Looks like ISU is crowdsourcing their future ideas for improvement!
Quote:
The survey focuses on four core areas:
⛸️Fan interest, engagement, and connection to ice-skating
⛸️Viewing habits and how audiences follow ISU events
⛸️Digital and media consumption trends
⛸️Perceptions of the sport and opportunities for growth

I urge all of us to raise the accesability of the different competition streams to them, maybe they could put the Challenger Series on YT as well! (ONLY if you manage to start the survey, cause so far I haven't😔EDIT: managed it! They also will drawsome prizes from OGMs(Nathan, FB/C etc.), but you can opt out of that if you want

It is open from March 20-April 17

Done.

But, to be honest, the questions they were asking didn't even touch on the real issues in this sport. It was mostly concerned about social media and sponsors.

The only questions that came close to asking about what we wanted them to ask about were the ones about attending competitions, and the ones about streaming. And even then they didn't ask us questions that would have given us the opportunity to say what we wanted to say.

Like a lot of sporting bodies nowadays, they seem to be under the impression that fans are more interested in the things that go on around the sport rather than being interested in the sport itself.

There weren't any questions about the rules or the format of the competitions.

A missed opportunity.

Well... I expected such a survey... they are not going to ask the fan what we think of the judging or the rules or the formats of events.

In any case, I did it. I am not interested in the prizes so I didn't even have to give them my email ;)

I answered the questions, but I totally agree with you @CaroLiza_fan! Even though, just as @4everchan I expected something like this....

Challengers on youtube is a great idea. I already finished mine and complained about geoblocking thei youtube stream

Find surveys unless and never do them. Usually ones doing surveys don’t really care what customers/fans have to say or would like to have.
As a person who's been working in marketing for years unfortunately I have to agree. I was always ashamed of the surveys we were pushed to do by some higher authorities.
I did this one and the agenda behind it is very clear. It's long and it's a waste of time.

I usually just read here, but i am curious. Does anyone else miss the Qualifying rounds at Worlds? Watching Worlds feels like i have watched the same competition since a decade already. I miss seeing new faces from different countries compete, but with these minimums there is no way that skaters from, let's say. tropical countries ever get to compete again.

Worlds used to be the best skater competing of every country, no matter the skill level, where the worlds meets at the end of a long season. Now it's an elite competition that is gatekept by the obsession of TES.

I feel like the competition format of Worlds needs to change. Expand it and make it longer, it's Worlds after all. If the ISU doesn't want to invest money to have more competitors compete there, where then?

There are plenty of opportunities to see new faces in the early-season competitions. Most of these are open without the TES qualifier to any skater whose country has an ISU affiliation. This is how the new skaters get much-needed experience & the TES they need.

Worlds is an elite competition for elite skaters. In my view, having a qualifying round serves only to exhaust these skaters. I fully support keeping the current system.

Welcome to Golden Skate. Post often.

Worlds is already long, so the qualifying round would be exhausting. I do wish a high PC score had some value.

It's not the same. The sport can't develop globally if skaters are shoved to compete in a dark rink with 5 spectators watching the stream. (if there is one)

I just think it's bizarre that there are fans who prefer to see skaters pushed out of big competitions instead of being happy for more skating to watch. What do you gain from it? Until 2012, Worlds didn't feel any less prestigious.

I don't know about the exhaustion argument, because many skaters performed 3 or even 4 programs at the Olympics, besides they do runthroughs in practice all the time. According to the proposed rule changes, the ISU wants to shorten both the FP and SP and remove a jump from the free program, which would make it less demanding.

Aren’t they short enough already?!?!
