Uhhmmm... I don't think Japanese nationals are that inflated right now? Probably some points higher than international scores would be, but far, faaaaaaar less than Russian nationals, or American and Canadian ones in the past. Yuzu would probably be around 98-100 even with a fall internationally (he scored 95+ at worlds last year with a near fall and only one quad, and now he has even more momentum). Shoma scored 86+ with a fall on an URed 4T at the GPF. No UR: 89+. No fall deduction: 90+. No negative GOE: 94+.

Don't forget that international scores are going up like crazy too
I agree! They seem very reasonable compared to, say, ladies at Russian nationals, or anything in the US .

Who's idea was it to have Japanese and Russian Nationals at the same time?:dbana:

Congrats Hanyu, Uno and Mura.

If you want to win the short programme, you need to have a short family name.

Sota looks disappointed, aww it's okay! You can always come back in the Free! <3 And anyway, you're still young. :)

Yuzu interview now!

Regarding men? I don't think Russian nationals was that inflated actually. The scores are rather low across the board. Of course, back with Plushenko...

I think it was. Kovtun scored 93+ with a fall, and both his quads didn't have good quality either.

Question: Are the Japanese skaters obsessed with Spanish dances? So many tangos, flamencos and so on...

I'm happy to see Mura in 3rd! But goodness, my heart is broken for poor Sota...😭 I wasn't expecting podium for him, it's too early for him in Nationals, but still a top 6... I hope he'll have a great comeback for the FP.

I kept forgetting Sota is only 15...don't be too disappointed kid! In Junior competitions he didn't have to do the quad so I guess it's hard to incorporate; Shoma didn't get his 3A and quad until last year either!

The first fall was quite nasty. I think he landed on his left shoulder and squished his face.

Or maybe Brian just had an early Xmas with his partner and family before going to Japan.😊 Johnny did the same thing before going to Russia for Snow King 2.

My favorite surprise: Mura had the cleanest short! Also Shoma but some of his landings were shaky. Regardless, congrats to both for clean shorts! Well deserved 2-3.

Yuzu fell on the 4S but still delivered a stellar performance regardless. Falling on the 4S is better than falling on the 4T-3T because he can't save the combo if he does, and he skated like there wasn't a fall at all. Congrats! I know he's been under so much pressure to perform to the gold standards he set at both NHK and GPF, but I hope this comp becomes a reminder for him to take it easy... As Brian said, he's only human. To skate perfectly is great, but what we, the fans, want to see is him just skate beautifully, happily, and healthily. Afterall, we only have until 2018 to appreciate his skating competitively. :) I hope the fall lets him ease out the tension for the Free and deliver a performance he's satisfied with! <3

Congrats to Dice and Taka too for good performances! Dice only had a 3Lz-2T but I think he received a higher score than at SC? Am I correct? He's a lovely skater, and that 4S was a beauty! Taka too seemed to fight for his performance and it's good to see considering how his season had been going! I don't see Dice on the podium with the 10 points Mura has on him, but he could still make a case for 4CC if Yuzu and/or Shoma don't attend.

Now that I look at the list, it seems like Sota could still manage a top 10 finish if he's clean in the Free (he hasn't been clean with his current layout but if he does do it, he'd push some skaters lower with 2 4Ts and 2 3As).

Once again, congrats to the top 3! Hopefully we get a cleaner Free from the men. :)
