PCS will probably help him with a top 10 finish- heck, maybe even top 5. However, if these men are on (as in, real on!) Hanyu, Chan, Kovtun, Machida, Fernandez and even grandpa Dai- no way.

Jason's skates are amongst the most beautiful to watch, and he is on track to develop into one of the great ones, but he is not there yet. People watching Jason should forget about the score and just get lost in the beauty of the performance. Let him develop. He is so precious.

Nurture the young with encouragement, celebrate their hard-earned accomplishments, but be careful not to consume them with unrealistic expectations.

I agree! Don't rush things, people! I'd like to see him on the podium in 2018. He's such a special gift to skating (especially after the nightmarish womens' event where no one has looked happy for the last few years); let's sit back and enjoy the ride for a while.

I expect he should be out of and at least 10 points behind the top 5 after the SP at the Olympics if no major upsets. I also think it's a big recession in men's figure skating if a man without a quad in the SP and LP win the gold this time.

On any given day I think he could beat anybody but Chan. A couple quadsplats or some triple/triples turned to triple/doubles with a blown Axel or two, all of which the non-Chans are quite capable of, and Brown is there with a great performance. Realistically, top 10 for sure, top 5 with a great skate and a little help from the other guys, and an outside chance at bronze. Unless they decide to let no one of the podium who doesn't at least try a quad, which...let's just say I hope I never see that day.

However, the most important thing is that he's getting people excited about the Olympics and while other athletes are striving to put on a strong technical performance, he's looking to put on a show. It would be great if he made the final flight, but he would be pressed to. A top 10 finish is very likely, but a top 5 seems out of the picture. You never know, though.

If he gets a quad though, he can certainly dominate the field.

Though this might be a much, much longer shot than anything else debated in this thread, just think of what skaters their children could be if they inherited her jumping ability and his artistry.

He definitely won't get 93, but in think mid-80's PCS is totally possible. Mid-80s TES is possible with a clean FS. I say 170 and 85 for SP/FS is within reach, so total score of 255 would be good for a top 10
spot and can get him in the top six if some
make mistakes.

Also I disagree slightly with your assessment that Jason is all show. No he doesn't have the quad, but he had difficult entrances in and out of his jumps and his jumps look very improved. And no doubt he has some of the best spins and steps in the biz. What he lacks in BV, he can make up in GOE.

I think this time round would be slightly less angsty since he's been getting great scores all season. Plus, Jason is sweet, lovely, smiley, never pretends to be something or someone else, is not a sponsor-controlled robot, and his skating is so beautiful you can forget all about his jumps. I think that would make a difference.

Not one person at all cares that Jason doesn't have a quad and his scores show what goe and pcs can mean to where jumps even 3a become unimportant. Because he beat people in the fs who did 2 3a and 2 quads!! This is confirming just like how he overwhelming majority of united states press supported Lysaceks quad free Olympic win they would support Jason's win and judges do not care at all if a skater does quads or not. And quads aren't worth so much that they are decisive because of pcs and goe.

Jason DOES have a quad and reports are he's landing it regularly. He and his coach chose not to put it in the program that it was more important he skate clean. There is something to be said about that!!!! And he most definitely isn't all show! I'd much rather see a clean triple/triple and a clean triple axel than a messed up quad!!! And Jason IS bringing interest back to figure skating. That's been a subject on this board on a pretty chronic basis that interest in the sport is waning. So technical ability and the immense attention that his free skate is bringing in the press, uTubes, etc. is wonderful.

This will not be his only Olympic Games. I'm just hoping for a top 10.

A lot of those multiple quad men are max Aaron's and they are no competition for Jason brown at all. He just blows right past them no problem.

When Jason interviewed with WGN in Chicago, one of the anchors was like, "What is all this about a quad jump? They kept talking about it." I think it's easy to forget that us hard-core fans have an insider's view regarding the importance of the quad, but the general public doesn't necessarily put the same interest or importance in a single jump and care more about the overall performance.

Jason did a nice job explaining why the quad was important.

That said, it's good to hear that he's making progress on the jump.

Most people do not know that a quad is a jump with 4 rotations in the air. Or that it is difficult. Lol same thing when I watched buttle give an interview after 2008 worlds. He was asked "why are people talking about a lack of a quad? What is it?" And buttle never said it was exactly and didn't define it as a jump. Quad means 4 but 4 what? 4 different jumps in a row? 4 jump combo? It was that interview which I saw after Vancouver that was such a major watershed! People don't know what a quad is and don't care at all!! And judges know but they don't care either. Just some people care.
