Jason's Exhibition program from Shanghai Trophy:

Hit the Road Jack. Definitely not the Genius of Soul, and I don't know if this is one cover that turns from slow into techno, or two different covers Many of Jason's tried and true exhibition moves, although the finger wagging is cute,

This is a Randy Strong/Jason Collab with maybe a touch of Rohene. I kind of looked for the original Ray Charles recording, but for an exhibition, I think the cover is ok. For a competition, no. That said, I did enjoy it and it looks like Jason is enjoying performing it. I don't know if the costume is the final one, but I liked it for this piece. His two competition programs are on the quiet side, so a jazzy upbeat exhibition is good.

Liked the exhibition program but it irritates the whatsis out of me when they cut to the skater's face while they're skating. I want to see their body and their feet!!!! HELLO! It's a skating exhibition not a photo shoot. Jason looks like he's in very good shape and he clearly is enjoying himself.

I've always appreciated Lucas' skating style. It's balletic and beautiful. As we know, after watching Jason for so many years, it's super challenging to refine the components and non jumping tech to a level that allows for scoring that's competitive. Few people realize how hard Jason's content is. But he has influenced so many skaters. It takes so much work to get the scores Jason gets with his tech content. I hope Lucas can achieve success with his artistry. This is Jason's goal, to move skating forward toward artistry and balance the tech score more. Jumps are important, but skating has to be more than just jumps. Every movement should be judged without bias toward jumping. That said, Lucas needs a 3A to become more relevant. Jumps have to balance the artistry. And spins as well. They are all important.

New interview with Jason. Articulates beautifully why he is still in the sport (and the beauty he brings....)

“I'm still getting better; I feel like my spins are faster, my footwork is stronger,” he said. “I want to be a voice in this sport. I really don't want the next generation of athletes growing up and feeling defeated because of an element that they might lack. I don't want people to feel, ‘Oh, I can’t land a quad jump, there is no future in the sport for me.’ Keep working to be the best that you can, keep pushing yourself to work the system in your way.”

And he couldn't clear copyright for his first choice LP:oops:

If only score cheating was exposed, and the Olympic medal (among others) he deserved was acknowledged as his, his message would be much more audible (and Figure Skating would be more popular, at least to watch, because to practice it need so much exertion, quads or not).

That copyright clearing issue is intriguing. I wonder what they originally wanted? It's a great piece of writing and lots of info. He's finally committed fully and openly that he's going to try for a run to the Olympics. I suspected that he'd do that, but now we know that he's focused on that. Hopefully, he'll be successful at SCI in translating his vision for those programs into reality and that he'll peak for NHK when the competition will be deep and fierce. He and Ilia will be a good team at SCI and push each other to greater heights. I think that they will both be concentrating on the details, which should be interesting. Jason keeps pushing the envelope and so does Ilia. I'm excited about it. And figure skating is more fun and interesting with Jason competing. For me Jason IS skating!

After a prolonged period of silence, it's nice to hear what Jason plans to do and hopes to do. And we'll see what kind of statement he makes this weekend. I think it's really smart to be planning 2 years ahead. He does benefit from a long period of prep for his programs and it gives them time to evolve and adapt. Tracy has turned out to be a perfect coach and professional partner for him. They understand each other and they have enormous respect for each other. She's breaking ground too, helping to redefine what being a successful skater is. Good article by McCarvel!

Skate Canada is certainly coming up with the Jason content, love this quote from the Nick McCarvela article:

"This is all by choice; there's no rule or anyhing that said I had to go back," he explained, breaking into a laugh. "I made the decision with Tracy at the end of last season [when] I started having the desire to do another two years. I wanted to see it through; go for it. Tracy and I laugh; we call these our 'bonus years.'"

Bonus years for us too, Jason, for us too. :love2:

And since they are bonus years, Jason is fifth in the first group for the SP.

And hopefully in the 2nd group for the FS. Can't wait!

What the heck is going on with Jason and that damnable triple axel? I screamed and scared both of my cats! (claws in my leg....) And I hate to say this but I just do not like that Tarzan program. It just doesn't present Jason in the best light IMO. Here's hoping the freeskate is much better and he shines as we know he can. 🤞

Jason needs to get his mojo back with the 3A. The judges want to love him, but he needs to give them help. :)

The program is growing on me, but I'm never ever going to like the ululating lady. When Deanna and Max's program started today, I shivered, I thought it was another yodeling lady. Of course I thought of Jason.

I am starting to get Inner Love vibes from that Tarzan program. It's just not working. It's not a bad program, but it's not Jason. It just isn't. And whatever is going on with the 3A needs to be worked through. Admittedly, this is his first GP in 3 years and he was nervous. But the 3A has been inconsistent in practice. He and Tracy and maybe Ro also, need to talk about the short. I am hoping to see a turnaround in the FS. I may not be able to watch live due to my schedule, but I'm going to try. I will watch the first available replay if I can't make the live. What he's trying to do is not easy, but I think he has more in the tank than what we saw today. I really do believe that he has. I don't feel like he's enjoying skating that program. And if he doesn't enjoy it, it's never going to be what he would want it to be. I don't feel his connection with that program. I think the judges gave him a strong message that they don't like it. Look at the scores and the GOEs. Jason is way better than that.
