Jason Brown

TMC, I'm so sorry to hear you've been feeling unwell, and for so long. You've really been missed around here! Not much else to say except I hope you start feeling better soon. It was darn disappointing that we didn't get to see Jason skate at Broadmoor, but hopefully he won't bail on Glacier Falls, too. And of course we will have the added intrigue of seeing the result of his hard work with Frank.

In the mean time, my kitties wish you were here to play with them! Since I don't have their pix uploaded anywhere at the moment, for now I'll just rotate them into my avatar. This is Elijah. He says hi and get well soon!

Thank you! :)

I don't even want to think about Glacier Falls - I mean literally whenever I start thinking about the event, I just tell myself to desist so as not to get my hopes too high up :roll5: I don't care if he does all singles, I just don't want to wait another 3,5 months (!!!) for new Jason footage!! (Who knows if he'll do a Sr B, the only sure event is SA.) I saw your posts around Broadmoor and could see that you got progressively more frustrated and disappointed and I really felt for you. I thought, hey, somebody understands what I'm going through here!! I hadn't even thought about the fact that we get to see Frank's influence, if any, next time he skates! Makes it even more intriguing and the days even longer..

Elijah is so majestic! And I love the name, by the way :) Is he sitting in a casserole dish or what :laugh2: Give him a good base-of-tail scratch from me!

I find taking a day at a time, a step at a time, helps. Trying to find the little things to enjoy and find humour and joy in. Savouring the moment.

Sometimes things can get overwhelming and it's hard (so hugs again).

Hoping reading about your favorites and hearing from your Golden Skate friends brings you some cheer. :ghug: (group hug)

(Oops - meant to send to TMC)

It brings more cheer than you'd imagine!

I think I really will send a thank you letter to my favourite skaters! Have you guys ever sent anything, fan mail style, to any skater? I wonder how I should go about it... Did you ever get any responses?

Only skater I ever sent anything to was Shoma. He was so devastated after Worlds, I had to write something. I sent it through the Japanese Skating Federation. I didn't hear anything back and really didn't expect to. It made me feel better too, just to write!

I imagine so! It's a double whammy - you feel better because you let someone know how important they are to you and you get to "unburden" all your good feelings, and they feel good knowing that they have made positive a difference in someone's life.

@TMC I'm adding my voice to the choir of well-wishers. Take care of yourself and your health!

With Jason performing in The Ice show (August 5-11) I'm sure we'll get plenty of updates from Jason and his very enthusiastic Japanese fans.

Speaking of Jason's Japanese fans, I really enjoy their fan art. This artist is one of my favorites:

And, if you are missing Jason too much you can go to your local coffee shop and have the barista do this ;)

I figured the chances of him finding out what a letter in English said were probably zero, but maybe just seeing a couple big bags (or cartons, or whatever!) of mail would be a big morale booster.

Thank you! :)

I'd completely forgotten about The ICE! Thanks for reminding me. I'm sure there will be videos. I'm not that interested in exhibitions normally, but I do watch some skaters' gala programmes for the interaction between them and the audience/fans.

In reading the FSU thread from last year's show it sounds like many skaters debuted programs for the upcoming season (including Ashley and Adam). Videos of most performances were posted as well. It's possible Jason will perform either his SP or FS as well as exhibition numbers. :)

Ohhhhhh that would be fantastic!!! The Piano is such a beautiful programme, that exhibition style lighting would make it even more magical! :yay:

I have, twice. Once to Artur - I did not get a response, but I still wonder if the letter ever reached him - I had to Google Translate the address into Russian. And one other time to Joshua. I did not get a letter back, but I got a response that was infinitely nicer and more wonderful.

My sister is a barista, but I think she would hit me if I tried to get her to do this

Well this is a good news/bad news kind of thing but... I think Jason might be doing two senior B/Challenger skates prior to Skate America.

The reason is... well even though Jason is still ranked 12th in the world... he is ranked 7th at Skate America :hslap: Are Voronov and Kovtun really that much of a draw that they had to have them both? I actually enjoy them both, but still think this is a bit odd and think there are other Russian men if that is what they wanted. I thought Jason would be ok with skating groups being ranked 12th... but I guess USFSA likes guys high up on the world rankings.

... anyway. I would not be surprised if there is some interest in attempting to get his WS up enough to be in the final group for the SP. It would likely be a good idea if he can pull it off. Two silvers would put him ahead of Adam, and is doable. So maybe we will get lucking and see him early.

Max skated in the first group at Skate America last year. ;)

Jason will be fine if he skates well at Skate America, even if he is in the first group in the SP.

Didn't he skate in a fairly early group at the 2014 Olympics SP?

Ohh I am sure he will be fine still... but can't i still want to see him in the final group? I also don't think it is a bad goal to have... to do well enough to get in the final group. That is a fine type of goal for any skater to have if it helps motivate them.

I think I'd be very surprised to get a letter or even a postcard back from most/any skaters, but it would be nice to know that they got it in the first place :) A response in the form of something like a Twitter DM or Facebook message might be feasible? I've congratulated many skaters via FB messages and all of them have replied, some are even friends now, like Jordan, Sean, Grant and Nicolas for example.

Jason has said in a few interviews that he sends a thank you note for all of the tossies he gets, at least, and I believe he is one of those who makes it a point to send a letter/thank you note back. Poor guy, his hand must be knackered after every competition!

It's almost eerie how much detail those baristas manage to carve on that foam

So, any speculation about which Sr Bs Jason will choose?

I'm guessing Nebelhorn for old times' sake, and Nepela because he seemed to be super popular there last year. How close are those two? Could he maybe stay in Europe if his Bs were only a week apart?

Here is the list of Challenger series.

Lombardia Trophy 8 - 11 Sep 2016 Bergamo Italy
U.S International Figure Skating Classic 14 - 18 Sep 2016 Salt Lake City United States
Nebelhorn Trophy 22 - 24 Sep 2016 Oberstdorf Germany
Autumn Classic International 28 Sep - 1 Oct 2016 Montreal Canada
24th Ondrej Nepela Memorial 30 Sep - 2 Oct 2016 Bratislava Slovak Republic
Finlandia Trophy 6 - 10 Oct 2016 Espoo Finland
Ukrainian Open 9 - 13 Nov 2016 Kiev Ukraine
Warsaw Cup 17 - 20 Nov 2016 Warsaw Poland
Tallinn Trophy 2016 20 - 27 Nov 2016 Tallinn Estonia
Golden Spin of Zagreb 7 - 10 Dec 2016 Zagreb Croatia

I actually wonder if He might try for Lombardia... we know he was in Italy to visit his friend this summer, if she is still there, I suspect he would love to get to have her come see him skate.

If he wanted to get two in before Skate America, I think Autumn Classic might be likely. It is a good distance between Lombardia and Skate America and is on the same continent at least. He also has not skated in Canada in... well has he ever? I could see him wanting to do that one to add to the list of countries he has visited and I would think he would be well received in Canada.

Both good reasons to choose those two. If I were him, I'd want to mix and match!

Hey I just remembered - he did skate in Canada, when he won the Jr Grand Prix Final in 2011 ;)

... I've been quite unwell for a few months now ...

First and foremost, sorry to hear that you have been unwell, TMC. Wishing you the best.

My two-cents caveat regarding the Challenger discussion:

Seems possible -- and reasonable -- to me that Jason would not necessarily have carte blanche to simply claim whichever Challenger assignment(s) he wants.

For example, we do not know whether Max had been hoping to defend his title at Skate America.
If he had, perhaps USFS at least would give greater weight to Max's Challenger preferences than to Adam's and Jason's. Would seem only fair, IMO.

And aside from Max, what if Adam and Jason both want a certain Challenger? I'm not saying that Adam automatically should get it -- or that Jason automatically should get it. They both will be prepping for Skate America, and they both will be aiming for the podium there. USFS might have some tough choices to make when deciding on Challenger assignments.
