Jason Brown

I have to say that despite the technical mistakes both programs were the most fuild I've seen since last season. Perfectly done for Jason. I wish he didn't have to throw his leg up in the air every now and then but I guess that is his choreographer signature choreographic element for Jason.
Good job, Jason! Congrats with gold!

I just watched the FS again. Except for the first two jumps it was really beautiful. The quality on my feed last night was so bad that I really wasn't sure what to expect - but it was gorgeous. :)

Along with relaxing on the water after 2 competitions in a row, Jason is also spending time on ice at the Toyota Sports per this instagram post by Misha Ge.

Aha, I thought so as soon as I saw that photo! Good for him - maybe we really will get to see him land that quad at SA!

And in return, I'd like to report a minor miracle, two positive tweets by Phil Hersh:

ETA what is that stare form Evan?!!!

Me three when I saw the paddle boarding Jason: that would be way hard to do on a Colorado river:laugh: although Jason might be able to pull it off.

And Jason and Misha at the same practice; what I would give to see that!

Here is Max on a paddle-boarding outing at a lake in Colorado Springs :

What Jason is doing is not what I think of as paddle-boarding?? Although I am nooooooo expert.
Anyway, hope he is having a good time in California both off ice and on ice.

Off topic: Does Evan skate at Toyota on a regular basis?? Is he living in California again now???

I don't consider it a miracle (minor or otherwise) ;) .... but it was nice to see Phil's tweets.

Trivia:
Turns out Jason is two for two with ice dancers as roommates this season ... as we learn in the final installment of Joe Johnson's blog from SLC.
Joe's description of Jason is brief, but amusing and apt :

Thanks for posting that - he writes so well that I read the other entries too! He also wrote day 1 - Karina wrote day 2.

Yes, on all accounts :).

For the sake of simplicity in this thread, I didn't bring up the lovely Karina -- only b/c she did not mention Jason. I was not trying to give her short shrift, so I'm glad that you gave her a nod.
ETA:
Makes me very happy that you read Joe and Karina's blogging in full. I purposely did not quote what Joe wrote about Jason ... b/c I hoped that someone would click on the link and read all of #3. Didn't want to even say that the Jason part was at the bottom, b/c I hoped to "force" you or whomever to at least skim all the way through.
Last year, Joe and Karina also took turns writing at the Autumn Classic. I enjoy both of them as bloggers ... with Joe's sense of humor coming across esp. well . Karina also put together an Autumn Classic vlog, IIRC.

I do love :luv17: all the blogging and vlogging from skaters. Lots of off-ice creative talent.
This past weekend alone, in addition to Joe and Karina: Brynne McIsaac and Christina Carriere did a very nice job of blogging from Saransk for IN and ice-dance.com, respectively. Plus Mrs. P posted Sean's vlog in the US Classic videos thread.

I wrote under that Instagram post asking PLEASE take a selfie with Jason and post it because that would be such a dream-come-true shot to treasure forever :luv17:

I haven't seen the info posted on this thread yet and only came across it this morning. :)

I see Canned Heat in Cleveland's future. Awesome!:hap10:

Also, :otopic: but in case one or two here would care: Nick Zaccardi, the NBC journalist who actually writes stories about Jason without starting the lede "Jason-who-doesn't-have-a-quad Brown" was married this weekend. Reading the NYT Sunday Styles weddings ( a truly guilty pleasure) and his wedding was in there. Congrats to the happy couple!

Appreciate the Zaccardi news :). Congratulations to the newlyweds.

ETA:
Just looked it up, and hadn't realized that you meant that they were featured in one of the NYT vignettes. Was expecting just one of the formal announcements.
Anyway, a sweet love story -- meeting at church. They both sound like nice people.

For the record, the sixth sentence of Nick's recent post-Lombardia/pre-SLC article mentions that Jason did not attempt a quad at 2015 Worlds.
(Not until many paragraphs later did Nick get around to mentioning Jason's rotated quad at Lombardia.)

When I Googled "jason brown phil hersh," the first article that came up in my search results was Hersh's Jason-centric report after the SP at 2015 Worlds. The one with the headline, "For figure skater Jason Brown, it seems like old times."
The fifth sentence of Phil's article has its first mention of Jason's quad status -- a description of his SP as "flawless (but quad-less)".

For me, holding off until the sixth sentence versus holding off until the fifth sentence does not scream to me that one reporter is more fair to Jason and the other reporter is less fair to Jason. YMMV.

Cross-posting from Max's thread:
Max and Jason were among the many Lombardia participants who added their signatures to a pair of Edea skates to help raise money for the Italian Red Cross after the August earthquake in central Italy.
Mirai, Grant, Tom Z, and Kori also signed ... as well as many others at Lombardia.

I enjoy Nick's writing style, whatever the topic. In the articles I've read he's always been fair and balanced. Congrats to the newlyweds!

Back on topic, I know it's not going to last but I do enjoy seeing Jason at the top of the Seasons World Ranking

So I was really interested in what Kori had to say about Jason training in California, but a little confused. She said that the Toyota Center is serene and protected and does a great job at protecting elite athletes and helping them maintain focus. Not exactly sure what that means, but it sounds to me like it's not just about working on quads: it's also about Jason immersing himself in training with other elite skaters. And that suggests to me that he might be training there regularly in the run up to the Olympics.

I did look at the freestyle schedule and there are two sessions (including "Frank's session") during the week that are for elite skaters only. So that's two hours a day he only has to share the ice with a handful of skaters.

I noticed that, too! It was like what are you saying about your own facility? That it's not a serene and protective environment?

I also got the feeling that Jason's stint at the Toyota Center is not a one-off.

I think Kori knows what her rink is at the moment. At this point, Jason and Tomoki are the only Team USA skaters and she's mostly coaching students in the developmental levels, so she probably knows that Jason needs to be around other elite skaters. Tomoki is also in a different place. There isn't someone to push him. I'm sure training with Ten and Murakami who both have lovely quads is a nice change of pace.

Also Kori's always done this -- having Jason work with other coaches -- this is just on a more elite scale.

That's very true. I didn't actually mean to criticise, in fact I really admire the way Kori has always been open to outside contributions. She doesn't seem to suffer from egoitis too much. What I meant by "not a one-off" was that I wouldn't be surprised if training in California for a month in the summer became a tradition, not that Jason would leave Kori altogether (which I believe he will never do).

Also, it was pretty clear from their Instagram & Facebook posts that the rink went through some major renovations over the summer, so she could easily be talking about that when she said that somewhere else was more serene

I think after working with the same coach for so long (wow - 17 years according to Kori in the TSL interview), it's a really good thing to have someone else's input during the off season. Kori seems to be fine with this, and I think it makes the Kori/Jason relationship even stronger. Truly, I can't imagine him ever being coached by anyone else other than Kori. She is SO good for him! Didn't he say that she was his first coach and would be his last coach? Seem to recall reading that somewhere.
