Jason Brown

I am so lucky to be going as well.
I feel like I am good luck for Jason as he has done well at every competition I have been at for him. It started with his senior debut in 2011, then Riverdance in 2014 and his National title in 2015. I hope my streak will continue.
Good luck to Jason and all the competitors.
I am looking forward to a great competition.

IN's Ice Talk podcast is out with a Skate America preview. Phil Hersh is on, and yes, he talks about Jason needing a quad. :)

I'm taking a red eye out to Chicago tonight just so I can be there for the practices tomorrow. If anyone wants to meet up during the competition and talk skating/Jason, shoot me a PM!

WOOHOO!!! Only three sleeps :hap93:

I find it funny how low many people are placing Jason in the predictions thread...Some have him outside the top 6. I remember when lots of people had him outside the top 10 at Worlds 2015, and did he show them

I believe a podium position is very feasible.

Never underestimate the power of the home crowd. :clapper: I'm revving up my vocal chords to cheer nice and loud for Jason. And I'm sure Team Brown will be out in full force. I think there were about 40 of them in Team Brown t-shirts at Boston Nats! And as always, hoping for an injury free competition for all skaters!

As to the predictions, yeah I have raised my eyebrows at a few, but I do think this is an exceptionally difficult field to predict. To me it really says something when D10's withdrawal doesn't clarify much!

My strongest wishes for Jason are that he stays healthy, lands a clean 4T in at least one program (preferably both!), that he skates to the best of his ability both days, and that we see at least one clean 4S in practice!

Some of the predictions made me say "Whaaaat?!" I still see Jason in the top 3!

Well, Jason's skating - or placement - won't be affected by where anyone places him in their predictions. Anyway, I will always maintain that the only predictable thing about the gents is their unpredictability.;)

Personally, I have no expectations - but wholeheartedly agree with Tavi's wishes! - and let the chips fall where they may.

But good luck to Jason! And I hope for an enjoyable event for those who attend - and for those of us watching from home.:)

FYI: With Denis Ten's withdrawl, Jason will now be in the final group in the short program with Shoma, Adam, Maxim, Sergei and Boyang. The rankings are: 3,4,5,6,9,10.

Then big space to Nam Nguyen at 20 and Daisuke Murakami at 21.

As for people's predictions, well, pah! As I said earlier, last year almost nobody picked Max to win, and few even picked him to medal. The predictions game is a reflection of people's bias.

This is exactly what I meant when I said it was funny...it's so obvious in a few cases (by no means all)!

... I think more people may have picked max to medal this year than last year.

:laugh2: And I think you're actually right.

(Lots of people not learning their lesson on Brendan, though. *smug grin*)

Well i have him in my predictions... and I think i did last year as well. I actually do expect Brendan to breakthrough eventually, he has a lot to offer, and I could see him being very popular in the USA.

Stitch, you are too funny . Your post mostly made me laugh  -- in a good way.
But it also made me a little wistful :sad4: at Max's absence this year.
That said, I'm happy for Jason/Adam/Tim that they are this year's entries :yay:.

ETA:
In fact, I'm happy to support almost the whole field here: Brendan, Daisuke, Boyang, Shoma, etc., etc.
Sorry that Denis withdrew.

But ... see this post from the Ladies SP thread:
It will be a random draw this year for all the GP event including Final. (World Standing will only affect the starting order in ISU Championship and Olympics) ....

The draw for the Skate America Men's SP will be on Thu at 11:45 am local time.

Thx to tinnychan's post, I went looking for the official ISU language regarding this year. For documentation of what tinnychan has said, see:
- Page 8 of the Skate America announcement
- Page 2 of Decisions of the ISU Council (Sep 2016)
- Page 81 of Special Regulations and Technical Rules (see Rule 513)

Ice dance is on so I may post in bits. But permit me to gush!

Jason looks amazing save for the 2 blown jumps. Couldn't tell about rotation on quad but it looked like he almost landed it, then 2 footed and fell on 2 foot. The second half 3A was other fall - looked like he misjudged take off, skidded on entry. He did almost full program but shorted stuff at very end. Not sure if he's ready to land quad based on this practice but we'll see tomorrow. Overall, program looks in great shape.

Gush: first, he does look a taller and bigger, like he's in adult body now. He's noticeably bigger than Adam. Second, his jumps are much bigger and he's quite a bit faster. In contrast to last year, he now maintains speed in program. And his flow is really nice. Gushiest of all: he has a charisma and a presence that just jumps off the ice. Maybe in competition others will approach his presentation but today no one compared. Okay gonna stop - Shibs coming up. If questions ask and I will respond later.

Thank you for your vivid report! Jason seems FINE! Stay healthy, Jason!

What's sib's music? I can't help but expect their new programs considering last season!

Shibs used a Frank Sinatra song called That's Life. Not sure if they combined it with something else.

Thanks so much for the report Tavi! :thank:

USFS posted a video of Jason doing (beautifully) a 3A-1/2Lo-3F in practice. (Thanks go to Jackie Wong for identifying the jumps.) Did Jason include the combo in his FS program run-through?

I'm wondering if he's going to use this combo when he does the 4S to minimize the risk of zayaking.

I know this is a fanfest for Jason, and I am a huuuuge fan, but just a question - why wouldn't they send Max to Skate American since he won last year? I don't understand the assignments apparently. Does it have to do with the rest of the field? Do they know the rest of the field when they make the GP assignments? Seems like a skater should be able to defend his title.

Go Jason though!
