Love JB and Hamilton, but fear sitting through many less than stellar Hamilton performances during the next figure skating season.

Love JB and Hamilton, but fear sitting through many less than stellar Hamilton performances during the next figure skating season.

I actually see more people doing La La Land programs than Hamilton programs. Given the musical's rise this year, I thought we would have seen a whole slate of Hamilton programs this season, but that hasn't been the case.

And welcome to Golden Skate.

So, every Nationals for the past 3, my friend Jeff has taken a picture of Jason holding up a sign that says "I am (my name)'s greatest fan!" They're so adorable. This year the sign said "I am still (my name)'s greatest fan!" This year Jeff talked to Rohene and said he wanted to get Jason something for being so accomodating and Rohene suggested a Kansas City t-shirt. jeff said when he gave it to Jason you would have thought he had given him a new Ferrari. He said Jason is one of the most gracious young men he's ever met - always has time for everybody and is always smiling. Just thought folks would like to hear about that!

The first time I actually met Jason was in 2014 at a practice session in Boston. I just wanted to shake his hand and tell him how much I enjoy his skating and that no one since Kurt Browning has affected me that way. He was actually embarassed. It was quite cute. Asked if I could shake his hand and instead he gave me a big hug.

I wish only good things for Jason, a speedy recovery from the leg injury, and for people to stop cracking on him because he doesn't have a quad. I think he has the best presentation of any man in the US right now and that should count for something.

Is this the shirt?

Also... here is a video of Jason's exhibition.

I think Jason is doing great this season so far . and even with a injury and the lower back last season I think he is very strong well trained and a great skater ithink its great that he made the world team. now its onword and upward Jason.

No darn it. I asked my friend if it was and he said that he had given Jason a red shirt. That would have been soooo cool.

Personally, and probably prejudicially, I think Jason is one of the finest representatives that USFSA could have. Yes I would love to see him win a world medal and yes I want him to have another Olympic medal, but his joy of skating and his goodwill is worth a thousand medals.

Even if you forget joy and goodwill, Jason is a reasonably reliable, strong competitor who performs well. Exactly the sort of person you want to send to get three spots back, not some hit-and-miss kid who's never competed internationally as a Senior before.

I really don't understand why it is so hard for people to grasp why the USFS have done what they've done.

Totally agree with you Karne. I think people get hung up on their favorites and miss the fact that some of these skaters have history and "standing" in the world. Even without a quad Jason was still 8th in the World last year. Yes, things change from year to year and some skaters perform better than others on any given day - BUT.....skating well at Nationals when there are few expectations on you is totally different than skating in an international competition when your country is placing high expectations on you. I just don't think you can look at 1 skate and predict the future.

Well, year before last, now. Max was 8th in the world last year.

Zhou doesn't even have the minimums and an awful lot of people seem to be taking it for granted that he'll get them...he only has one shot.

Does anyone think now that the Monkees buttoned shirt is meant to be a figure skating "colonial"; that is really for Hamilton?

Also in the NBC version of the exhibition (thx Stitch!:agree:) did anyone notice how complimentary Johnny & Tara were? Of course, it's hard to carp about quads for an exhibition skate, but Johnny even pointed out how much strength it takes to do "the worm".

To me, the cut of the jacket looks more Civil War, than Colonial. Or maybe it's the gray color..

As a European, my bias first led me to old Prussian WWI uniforms, some of them had that diagonal style, though from both sides, but yes, definitely military style.

I really don't understand why it is so hard for people to grasp why the USFS have done what they've done.

I don't think it's a question of it being difficult to understand, it's more a question of having an agenda and this not fitting with it. Personally I'd appreciate if they came out with it saying he's not my favorite, I would prefer this therefore and no problems, it's normal as we all have our own biases. But if we're going to discuss on actual merit, it's really easy to see why he got picked.

Plus I am sure USFS is on top of that situation and monitoring, just in case.

I agree on all your points!

The Prussian uniform does have a lot in common with his costume. It's a bit more of a stretch to see the Colonial or Revolutionary War influence, but there are certain similarities, e.g., the waistcoat look, the tight fit and buttons:

As I said, it's a bit of a stretch! But if they are testing out Hamilton-like costumes, I'm glad they're simplifying the lines and eliminating the cravat so it doesn't destroy his lines. (Okay I included the last gif because the finger pointing strongly reminds me of Jason!)

Good detecting, Tavi! :agree:

After seeing your post I had a thought -- The song "Wait for It" is sung by Aaron Burr in Hamilton so I looked up his costume and think it's a closer fit (especially color) to Jason's more stylized costume.

... In any cases it sounds like he's recovering even if he didn't do a lot of jumps here.

The reason for reduced jumping at Rock Center could just be that the rink is so small.

IIRC, Ashley and Gracie also cut back on jumps when skating on Today. The Shibs and D/W have been limited as well in what they can perform at Rockefeller Center.

For at least one previous Today appearance, I feel sure that Ashley intentionally did zero jumps (when completely healthy).

Anyway, it was cool  to see Jason on Today.

Happy #GetUpDay to Jason and all skaters :ghug:.

And good luck to Jason, Nathan, and Grant at Four Continents :yay:.

In fairness to Vincent, his Junior TES season's bests are 44.60 and 75.52, which are far above the Senior Worlds TES minimums.

Nothing ever is guaranteed, but I am among those who are optimistic that Vincent will earn the Senior Worlds TES minimums at the Bavarian Open. Good luck to Vincent there :yay:.

Ooh yeah! He looks great there.

I thought that in the little clips posted by 7K of this program, Jason really moved well - especially in the beginning and end - that ending is really effective. If it will eventually become a new competitive program, I guess announcing it so early could be kind of warning other guys off- hey, this is mine! And we didn't actually see much real choreo so they can keep that part under wraps.

Interesting! We'll see if this is idle speculation or not - remember the scent of love detective work we did?! :)

Hey, it's 2 weeks to 4CC, we have to do something ;) and this Today show clip was a nice bonus and tailor made for speculation.

Didn't Jason say in his interview that it was his dream to skate to Hamilton during an Olympic year? (Of course, Jason is so positive, it's his dream to cross the street....) I like this "early warning" idea.:)

Plus, as was mentioned earlier, I think our real danger is La La Land programs. I saw a tweet from some skater (sorry, don't remember who, pairs or dancer?) saying there should be a lottery for which skater gets to use which La La Land music:biggrin:

I really loved seeing jason on the today show it was great. Ialso love his new program skate too halimiton looks great so far. Ikeeping my fingers crossed for worlds annd 4cc go jason!!!
