Jason Brown

I just want too say what a great job Jason did and his performance in both programs were beautiful great job Jason 6 th place not too shabby,:ddevil::clapper:

I have never seen a photo of Jason's handstand during "Canned Heat" before; I thought this was particularly impressive.

(The photos are from a Facebook page for the PyeongChang Olympics, they have quite a few nice photos of the gala. I also liked a close up of Chris and Alexa during the gala, where you can actually see emotion on Chris' face; let's face it, he can be a tad stoic....)

^^^Oh my! Not sure what I love more -- the handstand or the shirt! Both are pretty awesome.

*nitpick mode on*

Not a handstand, a one-handed cartwheel

*nitpick mode off*

Am I the only one perpetually terrified that one day his hand is going to slip while doing that?

Jason wraps up his 4CC blog on Ice Network:

Some SP photos tweeted out today:

ETA:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aUkvuo4spbk <--- FS run-through. This would have been during the warm-up before the FS on Sunday, right? I got to watch this just now. The quad attempt wasn't too bad...but that weird freak fall afterwards was so strange. I can see why they took it out.

4T looked close, maybe <. Looks like he was just too close to the boards when he got up and caught his heel. Still, that was a damn good attempt.

He looks great in those photos! Especially love the bottom right hand photo in the second link.

I found this run through last week and had such a hard time watching that I turned it off. It looked to me like the falls or the landing on the 4T might have been painful, and that the subsequent poor landing on the 3A rattled him. But his air position on the 4T was nice and straight.

I love the change they made to the right forward outside spiral (when the orchestra comes in) - I think it must be harder than the one he was doing before, but the position is so beautiful. I'm also so glad the final spin is back to the original version. And it was so nice to see the 3z-1lo-3s done here with more control.

I think John Coughlin said during the NBC broadcast that it looked like he didn't quite have his full stamina back yet, and the errors on the last three jumps resulted from that. In retrospect, despite the errors, he looked stronger overall, and there was a lot of beauty in both programs. I'm encouraged that even if his recovery is probably slower than he - and we - would have liked, he's well on his way.

Someone's in LA!

(Or it could be some other place with a palm tree...but this seems to be the most likely place, lol)

The Shibs are in LA too. Apparently the place to be at the moment.

I love that picture of him, and my very first thought was, is that LA, and is he going to work with Frank?! It would totally make sense given that Kori is in Amsterdam with Jordan (who is sitting in 2nd after the SP, behind only Jorick)!

And okay OT but there's something about Jorick besides the man bun that reminds me of Jason. Am I alone in thinking this?

I remember someone referring to Jorik as the Jason Brown of Europe. He did two really awesome programs to place 4th in Europeans, his best result yet. He is a major late bloomer--he actually didn't land his first triple jump until he was 16 and he's just now getting the 3A mastered this season (he's 24, I think). His sister Lorena also had a great Euros debut too!

He's the polar opposite of Belgium's best known skater previously -- Kevin van der Perren, who was a super technician -- he was the first man to do a 4T-3T-3T combination in competition (at 2010 Worlds).

As for Jason, Frank's super available now. Gracie and Denis aren't there anymore and Scott Dyer and Daisuke Murakami are done for the season.

Wow I had no idea Jorik was such a late bloomer - amazing that he got his first triple at 16! I did see both his Euros programs and loved them - and Ive enjoyed seeing him live at SA a few times and been impressed with his progress. I didn't see his sister tho, so I'll check her out. I think I heard that he (and probably she) get very little funding and that he trains part time while in school. If that's true it's even more amazing. I think his smile reminds me a bit of Jason too.

And wow, it didn't occur to me, but I guess Frank is free. Hmmm. I guess it could be Hawaii, which is where Madison Chock is, but somehow it does look more like LA. The Shibs seem to go there a lot. Well, I guess we'll find out. Or not!

The Shibs' choreographers for their short dance are based in Los Angeles, so it's likely a tune-up before Worlds. Maia and Alex also get their hair/costumes/makeup and other stuff from people there too. They're really keyed into the Asian American art/entertainment/fashion community.

I'd be interested to see Frank's involvement going forward. With Gracie no longer there and Denis Ten pretty much with Nikolai Morozov, Frank has a spot for a major elite skater -- Daisuke Murakami is really the only other elite skater internationally still training with Frank.

Haha. Well, I have a family member in L.A. who lives within walking distance of the Toyota Center. Want me to put him on it? Jk... but I was texting with him this morning and he said it was jacket weather there today. Guess that might not matter if you really want to lie on the beach. And he is wearing the cap.

As long as we're guessing, I'm going for Palm Springs as where Jason's currently relaxing. Isn't that where Frank lives, at least when he's not in LA or traveling?

Oh, I am so hoping he is training with Frank again. I think it worked well over the summer. I will also be honest and say that I would love to see Frank join as an official coach. The politics couldn't hurt.:agree:

I came across this quote from Frank, I don't know if it's been posted earlier. From IceNetwork "best quotes of the year"

It's like, 'Do a quad here on the floor and then do the same on the ice, and add a few movements. The one who can do the most quads is the best free skater in the world.' Is that really the best skater? There is so much more to it. Take, for instance, a Jason Brown. He is such a great pleasure to watch, and such a great performer, too. And he is out because quads elude him? What have they made of our sport?"

I guess I would just be labeled a quad hater if I posted elsewhere;)

I vote for this. Wasn't he in Palm Springs exactly a year ago? Plus, Anthony Liu is there.

The rink is called Desert Ice Castle and it's in Cathedral City, which I guess is near Palm Springs?

http://deserticecastle.com/coaches/

I'm not sure if he was there last year.

I don't know if a rink was involved, but his pics surrounding the Joshua Tree NP pic from a year ago definitely look like the greater Palm Springs area, which isn't that far away from the park. I love Palm Springs, btw. Not the newer places being built on the outskirts, but older seedy Palm Springs. It has a great history and cool mid-century architecture.
