Jason Brown

Thanks, TMC, for the explanation!!

Looks like Ronald McDonald House will be swimming in plushies-- that's to JB. :)

ICYMI, Jason is interviewed for the first ten minutes of this backstage video at Skate America.
One of the Jason-esque moments is the result of hasty/faulty editing. At the end of his interview, the audio from the "Ice Desk" unintentionally continues after the screen goes to black. Jason can be heard asking hopefully, "Was that OK?" (Lots of interviewees do the same thing at the end of a taping, but the sound is supposed to be left on the cutting room floor, so to speak.)

Before SA, Jason (via his mum Marla) had made a deal with the Ronald McDonald House charity in Chicago. If you're not familiar with the charity, it basically provides housing for families who have a child/children in hospital, so that the families can stay close during this difficult time. Jason announced that all the plushies he received would go to this charity, so many people brought them - even those who would not normally do the plushie thing. And I imagine some who were reserving gifts for another skater would bring an extra one along for Jason's charity.

Adding to TMC's answer: Per the Hersh article, Jason plans to continue his plushy (lowercase L ;)) project at future competitions, for the benefit of additional Ronald McDonald Houses both domestically and internationally.

And per Jason's thank-you Instagram, sounds as if he personally will deliver the Skate America batch to the kids at RMH near Lurie Hospital on a Thanksgiving visit. And in the Instagram photo/video, he is with the RMH family whom he hosted at Skate America.

OK-- I give up. What are noodle-arms?? People with a bad aim??

A noodle-arm is someone with a weak throw. Usually I hear the term in cricket commentary, but there were quite a few plushies that fell short of the mark in that video...

I much prefer it to the old sexist tripe of "you throw like a girl". Thankfully, in Australia, noodle-arm is becoming the preferred term. Basically it means your arm is limp, like a noodle.

 How wonderful is that! but it is also going to have an interesting competition dynamic. However Jason skates, there will be a rain of plushies for RMH. And any skater who skates after him will have to wade through all those stuffed animals, like an obstacle course. And deal with the applause, too, of course!

I can't wait to see how this plays out at TEB!

I was actually thinking more about Nationals, but I think that would depend on who was skating after Jason. I think someone like Josh, or Max, would probably take it in good spirit. (Maybe seeing a hail of plushies or a hail of Plushys would make Max RELAX!)

It does depend on the skater. There are certainly some skaters that would play with it and have fun. How fun would it be to see Max bust out a hockey puck and start batting them off the ice! Now that would be how you deal with it well!

plushie Plushys

The mental image of Max with a hockey stick shooting teddies through the gate will be with me for the rest of the day and make me smile for a week! Thanks!

Did you mean Rostelcom? He is not at TEB this year, sadly.

Stitch, I know you meant no harm, but your Max scenario makes me cringe rather than laugh. I don't think that gentle Max would hurt a flea in real life, but the thought of him energetically swatting away at innocent ;) stuffed animals with a hockey stick is kind of sickening  to me.
Wouldn't send a good message at all, IMO. Could be a bit traumatizing to the ladies of all ages who who idolize both Max and Jason.

In general, I do think that whoever skates after Jason (e.g., Max or Josh, etc.) would be fine with joining in to help clear the ice (by hand ;)) of the animals being donated to Jason's cause.
I seem to recall that the U.S. men spontaneously have done this kind of thing for each other within previous competitions (although the number of gifts thrown on the ice has not been as large).

of all the twitterposts, I found this one particularly adorbs: a drawing from a Japanese fan of the three SA men's medalists

https://twitter.com/YusyaTakahiko/status/526718245080817664

The Japanese Fan Club twitter feed said that Oda was a commentator for the GP series and that Jason was the best at transitions (this is in English, I do not read *any* Japanese....)

Yeah, I have to admit right after I posted, I nearly edited to add: "Oh great, then it'd be just one more thing people could hate him for" but I just shrugged and decided not to.

I think USA skating (and the world!) needs a Josh/Jason/Max worlds team. Just for the cute/adorable factor.
