Jason Brown

Clearly there needs to be a European Jason Brown fans meetup. And somehow I have to get the money and time to fly myself for it.

If I can find the money, I'm in!

I first saw Jason as a complete surprise in 2011 at his first senior Nationals. The audience (and it was a heavily.non-skating.local audience in Greensboro in 2011) went crazy for him in both the SP and FS, giving the kid a huge standing O and totally winning Mr. Ski's heart. Jason did not have a 3A at the time. I am an easy get, but Mr. Ski is more picky. The other Mr. Ski favs at first sight were Torville & Dean and Midori Ito.

I cannot tell you how special Jason's ability as a performer is. And his FS at 2015 US Nationals was vintage Jason, huge, enthusiastic standing O and all. No one I met was going around claiming Adam or Josh should have won. They were happy.both had really great performances, of course, but Jason does not just skate to the music, he becomes the music. If he is telling a story, like Tristan & Iseult, you are in no doubt about what the story is about. He was & is the best :)

His River Dance performance in Boston is one of my most cherished skating memories.

LOL, yeah, you would think this was the "Jason Brown nitpicking thread," LOL.

Well to be fair, it was a lot of anxious fan discussion about our bby boy (haha, he's actually too grown up now to be called that!) getting so much non-gushing from different sources. But maybe it's really good we're back to gushing - he's going to have his worlds debut in about a month, and we need to send him lots of positive energy!! :hb:

And for worlds in Helsinki in 2017: yes please! I definitely want to go there.
Oh, and papagena: gushing with a french accent is a very cute thing, as far as I know. So no worries about that :)

Boston is actually closer (and I love the city and enjoyed going to Nationals there) by Baby P is only going to be a mere 9 months and I'm not sure if I would be ready to tear myself away, even for a few days. I think I might be more comfortable leaving a nearly two year old, but who knows, maybe I could make Boston work ....but I'd love to go to Europe, I haven't been there since I was 19 years old. We'll see.

Also I have no clue what a Finnish accent sounds like. Where is TMC to give us tips?!

Babyskate, were you at Nats this year? If so, I'd love to hear you gush about it!
I was there and of course the whole experience was incredible. He had the audience in his hands right from the 6 minute warm up. He was so relaxed especially during the SP warm up. Others have said it but Jason live is such a memorable experience. It appears like everyone is rooting for him because he brings us all in.
I especially enjoyed going to his practice session for the long program. The practice rink was packed and everyone got silent when his music came on. He looked perfect to me, but I am not the best judge of 3A UR's.
I was irrationally nervous during the LP but managed to enjoy it once I realized he was killing it. Anyone sitting in my section who was not a fan certainly became one after his two programs. (It was a very fun section)
My flight home was cancelled due to the blizzard in NY that never happened but when I was back at the hotel, who was in the lobby but Jason returning from his trip to Ronald McDonald house. He was so humble and gracious, (he had a tear in his eye when I told him how much I loved his performances) it just solidified my admiration for him as a person and skater.

Aww, with only 9 months that's very understandable. I'll keep my fingers crossed you'll make it work though, either Boston or Helsinki (or both! ;) )

Oh, oopsie  why would you want to gush in french accent then? Shouldn't you try a Finnish one in Helsinki? ;)

Because not long before someone mentioned Helsinki, we were discussing TEB, which was in Paris in 2013, and I love Paris! I would love to see Helsinki, and to learn a bit of the language, but I understand it's quite difficult...unless you're Finnish. ;)

Babyskate, what a lovely story - thanks for sharing it! I would have said, except for the blizzard, but a wonderful moment came out of it. I'm happy for you!

Sometimes the universe arranges little delights for you. The blizzard was simply the world's way of giving you a Jason moment!

(I have no words to describe how jealous I am of anyone who had the privilege of sitting through that last group of men. wowwwwwwwwwww.)

My contribution to the Jason fan girl moments. I had forgotten this was actually in the US Nationals forum, so I had to dig it out of the archives: http://www.goldenskate.com/forum/showthread.php?43814-Saturday&p=817720&viewfull=1#post817720

Group A was awesome -- Jason, Max, Stephen, Doug and Scott Dyer. I ended up meeting these two really nice families from Cambridge who decided to attend the practices as a Saturday morning activity. They didn't know a lot about the skaters, so I played tour guide. It was really fun and the kids were so ADORABLE! They got autographs of all the skaters. I made sure the girl told Jason that she like his spins because when I asked what she liked best about Jason she's was like "I like how he spins in the center so well and fast!" Basically both families were quite impressed with Jason the most to the point where one of them is thinking of coming to the Men's Free Skate tomorrow! Yay!

Both Max and Jason looked great. Jason did a cleanish free skate -- the only error was a turnout on his second 3A....but then he later did a couple nice 3A-3T, 3Z-1L-3S, ran through a few of his sequences. Probably the most funny moment is that he completes the second axel then his practices pants were starting to slouch down a bit so he somehow manages to pull them up as he's heading to the end of the rink and then just started his step sequence as usual. Wardrobe malfunction avoided.

Max's new Carmen looked much improved. The music cuts work much better for him and he was pretty clean on the jumps. Definitely a better fit for him than his SP for sure. I enjoyed his step sequences quite a bit. I hope he can do a solid program tomorrow!

Got to meet Max and Jason afterwards. Max was quite friendly and he gladly signed the trading cards I had of him (thanks golden411.) This woman made this doll of Jason in his FS outfit. OMG, it was so cute and she was absolute overcome when she got to give it to him! Got a few photos of Jason and his doll. Anyway, he is so gracious. He kept saying "thank you" and so happy that people loved his skating. And when I mentioned that I was a total Kori fan girl, he enthusiastically said, "Oh, do you want me to introduce you to her?" So I got to gush to Kori about how much I admired her as a coach and she was just as gracious and kind. And Jason took a photo of me of her.

No doubt Jason had a mob of fans! I ended up catching up with these lovely Japanese fans I met at Skate America in 2012 and we talked easily for 15 minutes and then she's like, "Oh Jason is still there!" And sure enough, he willingly stayed for every fan. The kid's a charmer, no doubt. I think he's actually a bit starstruck and getting used to the fact that he has a following.

Away for a day and three screens of gushing about Jason. Yes. I also appreciate so much hearing the stories from those who have had the opportunity to see Jason live, and sharing them with us who have not. Merci!

Also in for the European fan fest, funds permitting! Worlds in Helsinki, hmmmm.... But as for Finnish .... we will definitely need TMC. Finnish is not even an Indo-European language (from which almost all European and many South Asian languages derive). Jason's smile, however, will need no translation.

Yay for more gushing!

And Mrs.P, thanks for the newest story again! I got one more: parents of a good friend of mine were actually in Sochi last year. And they saw the men's event, while not being regular figure skating fans (they went there because they had married in Sochi 25 years before, so it was their anniversary). They came back saying the event wasn't that great, but at least they had 2 guys they really liked. And of course, one of them was Jason, because "he was the only one who really performed for the audience!" In case you're wondering, the other guy was Hanyu, for his SP
When I said I really love Jason, they told me I had perfect taste

I think you're all very welcome to gush about Jason outside of live experiences too ;)

The folks who sat next to us through the whole competition were given tickets to the gala by a coach who sat in front of them, and who was not going to use them. The man had always wanted to go to the gala, but the wife only likes competitions, so they had never spent the money for the gala tickets. Faced with free tickets, she had to give in and go, though. We were curious how this would turn out, so we sent them an email and asked how the gala was.

They said they won't be going to any galas in the future; the only skater who really made an effort to entertain the crowd was Jason! They were not pleased that several skaters did not have an EX prepared and just did a reprise of their SPs. Jason being the highlight is even more impressive, given that the men's free skate was just before the gala, so all the men just had to be wrung out.

They are even more Jason fans than they were before!

BTW Jason spent quite a while in the practice before the gala lining up where his chair needed to be so everything lined up for Cotton Eyed Joe. He didn't get off the ice when told, apparently. The men only got one gala practice, because their event was not yet decided, so he had not had the chance to set it up before.

Putting in a vote for Helsinki Worlds 2017. (Just for TMC, since that's her home turf!).

If I can find the money, I'm in!

And for worlds in Helsinki in 2017: yes please! I definitely want to go there.

I do really hope that we can make this happen! 2017 is going to be so special...because it's the last one before the Olympics, and if it's as well organised as FT it's going to be ah-mazing! We have to get some fan group T-shirt thing going: Team Brownzillas perhaps?

Oh noooo you definitely do not want to learn to speak with a Finnish accent - it's like the ugliest there is! Seriously part of my job is to teach Finnish people to get rid of that horrible accent...I'm constantly going on about how "sh" actually is different from "s" and YES PLOSIVES MATTER :laugh2:

Thanks all for the Jason live stories. Please, continue to gush!

More stories, more stories! And thank you for yours, Mrs P!

Dreaming of Finland?

Wow where do you find this stuff? That's so interesting!

I'm loving this thread right now. SO much

Love that we're back to good old-fashioned gushing

Aw, I've been away from this thread for a little while but I love popping back in to see so many happy stories about Jason. It's lovely to be a Jason fan because it's so easy to be a fan of his personality. Plus, with how centered he is, I never worry about him psychologically.

Oooh! I remember having a discussion about Worlds in Helsinki several months ago, maybe even over the summer. I think I expressed interest at the time and I still do, if I can get the funds together! Sorry I don't pop into this thread (or the forum in general, sometimes) more often.
