Jason Brown

Man Jason was on fire. He has so much talent and that performance was first rate.
Congrats!

Why would anyone complain about his PC's if so they must be blind cuz it is so obvious he earned
every point. How can you not appreciate a skater that put down a performance like Jason did tonight.
It was a PURE NICE DANCE!

I think the biggest thing for me is how much he grew between this season and last. He was always a great competitor, but I feel that he's really embraced his experiences in his two seasons as a senior -- both victories and struggles -- and learned more how to deal with pressure, especially now that he is the U.S. Champ.

Also one thing I notice is that he's doesn't have the "OMG I CANT BELIEVE I GOT THAT SCORE." face these days. I think he's finally embraced the fact that yes, he can score some good numbers and be up there with the best. Today's reaction was much more subdued: A nod of satisfaction.

Anyway, I'm dying to know whether he'll go to WTT. WTT scores DO count toward season's best and it would be fun to see him up his SB (though he doesn't need it for GP since since he gets two assignments automatically). I'll guess we'll find out soon. On the other hand, I could also see Kori saying it's time to move on and start work for next season.

Re: Jason's maturation. I've been noticing and enjoying it all this season too. It undoubtedly reflects a combination of the Olympics experience (priceless), a second year on the GP circuit, surviving all of the Quad stress (that could age anyone lol), turning 20 and becoming National Champion. While I have no doubt that his "Golly gee...who me?" reaction to success is completely genuine, it couldn't have gone on too much longer without some backlash.

Re: WTT. I really hope Jason gets to go, less for a chance at a new SB than for the return trip to Japan (his first since a 2010(?) JGP date). He has a Japanese fan club with over 1,300 members and, while a few manage to go see him compete in the US, Russia and Korea (China, too, maybe?), you know he'd love to meet with and perform for them in Tokyo. And have a chance to practice whatever Japanese he learned in his college course.

While he introduced 2 new programs at once for 2014-15, I doubt he'll do so this year (I'm guessing they'll keep T&I). May 1 should be OK timing to start work for the new season.

I'm starting to think that we need to have a meet up of us Jason fans and our husbands can have a separate activity where they can bad mouth us for our crazy fandom :laugh2:

This is absolutely necessary - a kind of My-better-half-is-obsessed-with-Jason-anonymous

Hersh's article is wrong about one thing. He claims Orser is the first coach to have students go 1-2 at Worlds. A coach has had all 3 medalists at one Worlds. Of course, it was in dance, so it is always shorted in the US:

2011 Worlds dance, coaches Zoueva & Shpilband
First Davis & White
Second Virtue & Moir
Third Shibutanis

:)

http://www.isuresults.com/results/wc2011/CAT007RS.HTM

They also had the 9th and 14th place teams.

9th was Madison Chock with her old partner, Greg Zuerlein, who is currently coaching in Shpilband's school. Bates was out that season with a severed Achilles tendon.

I hope you corrected him - I've seen other people do that when he's made a mistake and hes good at acknowledging when he's been in the wrong :)

I opened the Hersh article several hours ago, and (out of inertia ;)) have just let it sit in a computer window without closing it. What it said is (emphasis added):
They made a big winner of Canada’s Brian Orser, believed to be the first coach to have gold and silver singles medalists at a world championships or Olympics, according to figure skating history guru Ben Wright.

(That said, I cannot rule out that maybe Hersh originally forgot to say "singles," and already had made an edit to add it before I had first opened the article.)

I liked the mostard color pants and the old Renessaince color composition of the costume...

I too liked the old color palette :).

Me too! I was decidedly disappointed - and disgruntled (there may have even been a bitter "I hope people are happy now!" - sniff!) - when I caught sight of the dark pants.... Oh, well, it's impossible for everyone to be happy at the same time in this vale of tears, I suppose..... (sighs dismally)

@SBrownie2310
http://youtu.be/U6_htpIucOA The link is to Jason's FS. He will be in the Gala tomorrow and we hope to hear about the World Team Trophy soon.

Jason's dad seems to imply that Team Brown is awaiting word re WTT from USFS. In other words, IMO sounds as if Kori would not stand in the way of Jason going.

The ISU has not officially announced the WTT country qualifiers today ... but as soon as it does, I expect that USFS and other feds will quickly announce their skaters?
Maybe the ISU will make the announcement before the gala in Shanghai?

I am still clinging to a shred of hope that USFS will assign Max ... but I would have no reason to complain about any combination of Jason/Adam/Josh.

I liked the old color palette with mostard color pants and brown big boots... It was autentical and Jason is so skinny and beutyful to wear it... but the audiance of the figure skating isn't the theater audiance. And th new costume too is very smart! Like a film blacj and white... a taste of old film... and Jason's sillouets are perfect in this costume! Nice bones structure, nice long dancer muscles, nice long neck, arms and hands... unique problem is: maybe too sexy :)

I am very proud of Jason. He did everything that was in his program. To finish 4th in his first (senior) worlds, I consider that a meteoric rise and an accomplishment. Obviously, the judges liked what Jason can do. His attitude is the icing on the cake even without a medal. I look forward to seeing more of his programs.

Me three! I thought I'd like the new pants better but they're a little dull to tell the truth. He no longer stands out. I'm used to theatre costuming, however. The look without the boot covers is much sleeker and more flattering overall.

Kori kind of matched her sophisticated goth look to his film noir!

I think the tunic/belt/overlay does the job of portraying the T&I theme. Sometimes less is more. In my view anyway. :)

I loved seeing that standing ovation for Jason, too. i hope he got more fans after today.

From some of the reports from the arena and various reactions here, it sounds like some people at least had a newfound respect for his skating if not a conversion to fandom. :)

He definitely won me over with this performance! I liked him before, but this was special, inspired. I think I can be considered to be a fan of him now. :yay:

Hah, got two new people into the Jason fandom today! They were watching some videos from the WC with me, and it was obvious they loved Jason when they all got silent during his performance (while they talked through most others). My favorite comment, when we watched the ladies later: "Are the men always more elegant than the ladies?" - "No, that's just Jason!" (not my answer, but that from a third friend who remembered Jason from the Olympics).
Now they asked me to send them more of Jasons performances, because they liked him so much :yay: the only problem is I have no idea which performances to send them, there are so many amazing performances from him!

:)

I'd pick:
1.) Prince SP at the Olympics
2.) Liberstram FS at 2013 Junior Worlds
3.) Flow Like Water FS at 2012 Junior Worlds.

I can't help but laugh because we should like a religious group. "Hey guess what, I converted another one!" To play on that one song..."Jason Brown's taking me to church!"

So US Figure Skating said Jason would be on the broadcast tonight, but then deleated the tweet,

luckily i got a screen shot.

Maybe we will see him, maybe we will see him on the later broadcast.

who knows.

Really enjoyed watching Jason in the LP. Just as a performance, I enjoyed it more than the everyone else, actually, even if it wasn't enough for a medal.

I must apologize for calling Jason's triples "small" prior to Worlds. I was still going off early season impressions (Nebelhorn and GP). They're quite huge now. The 'tano Lutz in particular was wonderful--shades of Brian Boitano, the original. :) And that's definitely a compliment.

I approve of the new outfit, though I harbour no hatred for the mustard pants.

It's funny... My favourite versions of T&I were the original Nebelhorn performance, and now this one. Though both skates have technical issues (< namely), there was something magical about them.

Looking forward to more great programs from Jason. I hope he fixes the < issue for good next year, since it's needed at the top.
