Jason Brown

Jason is really ascending to top international status. The judges sent a clear message here that if he adds quads he'll be competitive with Javi/D10/Hanyu etc. I'd love to see him medal in Boston.

I'd love to see him in Boston, period :)

I'd love to see him skate to any music that will really get the Boston locals going:

Sweet Caroline by Neil Diamond (for Red Sox fans) (perhaps paired with the Dropkick Murphys (Tessie") or

"I'm Shipping Up to Boston" by the DropKick Murphys from the Academy Award winning film "The Departed." and other songs from the soundtrack

or maybe some James Taylor.

Nice pic! Jason is very elegant! But the glasses and the hairgrease: ORRIBILIA! I want Jason vith curlies and contact linses (or miope or with old glasses)

I just hope he sucks it up and get contacts so he can learn to skate with them sooner rather than when he finds he needs to. I think his vision is getting worse with the years (in the normal sense that vision often gets worse) given that we are seeing him in his glasses more often. The thing is, I used to do what he did, would take my glasses off for some stuff like reading and I was just fine. Then in the span of less than a month, it became really awkward and frustrating to try to read sans glasses and I started always wearing my glasses or contacts. I think I reached a point where cheating with no glasses was just not practical anymore. I worry he is going to suddenly reach that point as well where his vision does start affecting his skating and need to adjust to contacts at a very inopportune time. He would not need to always wear them, but learning to skate in them once a week could really make things easier on him later down the line. If nothing else, he does need to learn to not squint when he takes them off.

As for his hair, well keep in mind it can get pretty crazy untamed.

I think for the big jumps on ice needs perferct vision! Contact linses! Thanks for link :) But I adore tht "crazy curls" too

Mmm - not sure there is much reason to worry. I think the swift change of vision you experienced is quite unusual. I have pretty bad vision but very dry eyes, so I've never been comfortable wearing contacts, and never wore them to perform even in large theaters or on big stages. It never affected me badly. In fact, not being able to see the audience clearly helped me block out distractions and focus on the performance.

Didn't Kori once say that one way Jason was able to play to the audience in such an all-encompassing way was that he couldn't see the audience? Makes sense...

And don't worry, when you get to a certain age, you will need to wear reading glasses over your contacts. Then you will wonder what is the point, and get rid of the contacts. Fair warning! :laugh2:

LOL, maybe Jason should insist on Instagramming for USFS and blogging for icenetwork every time he competes ;).
Did not hurt his results in Shanghai.

Eighteen #Brownstakeover USFS Instagrams (including collages and video montages) were posted before the Men's FS.
And @jasonbskates posted some separate tweets and Instagrams on his personal accounts.

I think for the big jumps on ice needs perferct vision! Contact linses! ...

OTOH, to improve his proprioception, Josh purposely practices jumps with his headband/blindfold thing.
And practicing jumps with closed eyes apparently is a common exercise, per a recent Tom Z video.

... Jason for WTT I think is almost certain - hopefully, then, we get a Jason/Max team.

Jason/Max for WTT would be a great team :yay:.
But .... Adam has said that he wants to go, and perhaps USFS will want to reward him for contributing to the three spots. I think our collegial sportsman Max would understand/respect that logic, as would I.

Speaking of which, Adam and Jason celebrated the three spots in this photo :):

But...but...it would be so, cruelly, unnecessarily, heartbreakingly unfair. When was the last time the pewter medallist was left with NOTHING? Why are they punishing him?

But it will have been - 3 months? - since Nationals. Would it be fair to Max to expect him to remain at peak condition for so long? I'd expect that he's been refocusing on next season instead.

I was going to mention the reading glasses thing... But in my case, that was not at "a certain age" - unless you by that meant around 11 or so.;) But, yeah, I think it's been over 30 years since I wore contacts - if we except the brief little interlude when I thought I'd try them again, when I was 15, moving up to a new school, but there was something wrong with one of them - it felt like a nail in my eye. And then I never bothered again. (It was mostly out of vanity anyway - and it may be that I'm just lazier than I'm vain.;))

Hmm let's see, ignoring pairs (too many years with 2 spots so it is different, bronze is like the pewter).

2014 was an Olympic year.

in 2013 Madison Hubbell / Zachary Donohue were pewter and did not get assignments.

in 2012 Madison Lynn Kriengkrairut / Logan Giulietti-Schmitt unless Ice Challenge was post season.
Armin Mahbanoozadeh was men's pewter and did not get any post (we may have only had two spots that year). So 2012, but now food is ready. I may look farther back, but I can't decide how to handle 2 spot years.

I would like to see them support Max, but it might be good to remember that we don't know what has been said, for all we know, Max wants the year over.

But it will have been - 3 months? - since Nationals. Would it be fair to Max to expect him to remain at peak condition for so long? I'd expect that he's been refocusing on next season instead.

Don't forget that Max was the first alternate for Worlds -- as well as for Four Continents.

So yes, IMO, it would be fair to expect that Max has stayed in peak (or near-peak) condition so as to be ready to give 110% in Shanghai if Jason, Josh, or Adam had withdrawn at the eleventh hour b/c of unforeseen injury or illness.
I believe that Max would have wanted to be well-prepared to seize the opportunity to skate as well as possible not only for his own sake, but also for the sake of keeping the three spots for U.S. men.
(Doesn't mean that Max has not been spending time also on getting started on next season.)

Remember last year when Jason was the alternate to Worlds?
In his post-Olympic comments (on social media and/or in interviews), Jason cheerfully mentioned that he would continue training in case he was needed at Worlds.
IMO, we have no reason to doubt that Max would have been any less responsible this year than Jason was last year.

I would note also that one of the reasons Jason's senior international career got off to such a great start is that he was the alternate to Skate America in 2013 ... and then Lysacek withdrew.
Yes, I realize that Skate America is at the beginning of the season, not the end -- but my point is that the skaters should and do take their alternate status seriously.

And as for "peak condition," one could make the argument that Jason, Josh, and Adam's batteries have been drained by Four Continents and Worlds -- whereas someone else (such as Max) could bring fresh energy to WTT.

... I would like to see them support Max, but it might be good to remember that we don't know what has been said, for all we know, Max wants the year over.

OTOH, Stitch's point is valid too, of course. It is within the realm of possibility that Max is not interested in WTT this year.
But ... he has spoken very fondly many times about his 2013 WTT experience. He loved the team format -- which brought back happy memories of his years playing elite hockey, when he was all about the team.

But...but...it would be so, cruelly, unnecessarily, heartbreakingly unfair. When was the last time the pewter medallist was left with NOTHING? Why are they punishing him?

I don't think it would be a matter of punishing our dear Max -- but of rewarding the top three at Nats.
If Max had placed third in Greensboro, I would have wanted him to go to Four Continents and Worlds. And if he had placed second at Nats, I would have wanted him to go to WTT. So I can't begrudge Josh or Adam these opportunities.
And it's great that Jason (unlike Ashley) went to Four Continents -- so that he could try his quad.

Now they asked me to send them more of Jasons performances, because they liked him so much :yay: the only problem is I have no idea which performances to send them, there are so many amazing performances from him!

One of my favorite performances is his 2011 free skate at US Nationals. The use of Nessum Dorma in the Worlds Gala finale reminded me of it and then (of course) I had to watch his program again. :)

And don't worry, when you get to a certain age, you will need to wear reading glasses ...

I had good eye sight growing up. I'm now at a certain age and have started using reading glasses for the first time. It's been quite an adjustment remembering to carry them everywhere, but I can't read ingredient labels or menus anymore without them. :scowl:

Thx for naming them, Katmari, I could not place Florent Amodio.

And welcome back to Sebastian, although I quite liked Russian split Jason.

Sebastian thanks you for the welcome back, el henry.

Russian split Jason (in his black practice clothes ;)) will be back if/when he competes in the World Team Trophy competition.

I'm finally going to start commenting in here.

I didn't want to start posting in here because there are already lots of replies happening and I don't want to get lost. But now I'm thinking "I should start posting here considering Jason is one of my 3 favorite skaters."

So now I'm finally going to post here.

Is that Jasons cap?

I think so. https://instagram.com/p/0pyALyTXL4/

Those two are unbelievably cute together, and they also stood next to one another in most gala men group pics I saw. They are both so hyper and jumpy, I'm sure they'd tire me out just by looking at them

Once Jason gets his quad (I believe he will), I think they'll be standing on the podium next to each other more than a few times. Nearest thing was 2013 TEB, but Patrick was between them. ;)

I broke my golden rule and watched the B ESP vid of Jason's gala with the sound on.:slink:

It was worth it, because Nicky Slater is the anti-Phil Hersh. (Sorry not sorry for picking on Phil ;)) At the end of the gala, Nicky says words to the effect of "Everyone talks about a quad, says that Jason needs a quad, and somehow he just ends up in fourth in his first worlds, doing what he does." My new fav announcer, Nicky!:laugh2:
