Jason Brown

I liked hearing Alex's confidence that Jason will get the quad. He clearly knows his stuff about jumps, while also showing a lot of appreciation for everything else Jason does so well. After listening to him go on and on about the importance of the 3A for the ladies, I was expecting him to be negative about Jason's lack of quad. It was a very pleasant surprise.

Even when I don't agree with everything J&D or their guests have to say, I love hearing the insight of so many different people in the sport through TSL interviews.

He does obviously know his stuff, but please, please please STOP SHOUTING. I already have a headache, I'm going to have to quit listening soon before my head explodes.

Actually, I'm glad they're bringing in other people to join in the recaps, even I don't agree with them . It makes it more of a commentary-style discussion and makes it less gossipy, IMO.

Alex's perspective on the other skaters were interesting, but it might have been good to bring in someone that didn't have ties to skaters in the competition they're recapping, even if they are no longer a student. And I agree with your comment over on the Gracie Gold thread that it would have been nice for them to ask if he had any insights on her struggles with competition nerves and mental psyche.

Given how Alex handled a pretty laid-back interview, I could see how he would have been sort of a hard coach....and how his style of coaching might have not help Gracie as far as competition.

As for the shouting -- I think it's his way of trying to better articulate his points in English, his second language.

IIRC, they did bring up her inconsistency (though I can't remember how the question was worded) and he sort of went on another track entirely, which seems pretty common with guests who tend to ramble and talk a lot, which Alex definitely did. At one point they asked if it might be because Gracie is afraid of not being perfect, and Alex said she's definitely a perfectionist (but not whether or not that impacted her competitive consistency.)

Is there a TSL discussion thread? It might help keeping the fan fests slightly more on topic .

apparently, Jason's fav split jump is the guardian one. he used as his profile photo on his newly opened Chinese weibo account
http://www.weibo.com/u/5591185566#1429459637225

Honest questions -- just curious:
Did Jason himself open the weibo account? Or is it an account started by a fan?

(I can't see anything b/c I don't have an account.)

Off topic:
Don't intend to watch the WTT recap, so I don't know know whether it came up that within the last few days, Jenny got accepted to UCLA law school. So perhaps her involvement next season will be scaled back again?

And I agree with Mrs. P's theory about the explanation for shouting.

You can always start one. Just FYI, if you link a TSL it will go to "Share It!" because GS currently considers them an enterprise and we send those to the "Share It" folder unless some reciprocal arrangement has been worked out...but you can always start a thread in The Edge and avoid linking their interviews.

I just clicked and there is a post now . He states that Weijing Sui and Zijun Li helped him with setting up the account and posted a photo of the three of them. (Zijun is a little social media maven. )

Big thank you to these two beautiful ladies for helping me set up and encourage me to get a Weibo account!! Love and miss you guys already! Hope you both have a safe trip home! Congrats on an incredible skating season :)

OT: Weijing's dress is so beautiful! So spring!

I did not have to set up an account to view it.

Also Li Zijun posted a welcome message to Jason on HER account, so I'm guessing it's legit: http://weibo.com/1911237367/Ce1WAskUI?from=page_1003061911237367_profile&wvr=6&mod=weibotime

He already has 1,300+ followers.

ETA: Jason's like posting right now. He just posted a photo with Hanee.

And Hanee just reposted it with a rough phrase of "Ha ha ha" and a bunch of heart emoticons. LOL. My lord....got to love real-time social media posting.

Agreed. I don't always like what they say or the way they say it, but for me, their recaps and interviews are consistently insightful and entertaining. I don't think they were very hard on Jason either - all season, when they've criticized him I've gotten the feeling that they really want to see him do well.

Thanks, Mrs. P :).

I would go so far as to say that Zijun is a big social media maven, not to mention quite the social butterfly (in a good way) in real life.
Kindred spirit to Jason ;).

Ooohh weibo is kind of fun. A great way to follow the Chinese skaters (they can't access Twitter, hence the reason weibo exists).

Jason is linked to Han, Zijun, Weijing, Cong Han and Soyoun Park.

And LOL, he just gained like 200 new followers since my last post.

Thanks, Mrs. P :).

I think she single handedly got like a whole bunch of skaters on weibo: Liza, Gracie, Denis, Nam, Jason...

Speaking of D10 -- his account is a HOOT. I'm just cracking up at some of the posts.

And here I thought maybe they'd finally say something nice about Jason.

I have to laugh - did you hear the interview they did where they said they were focussing on being positive and cutting negative influences from their life (meaning not reading GS or FSU and blocking people who say mean things to them?

Jenny said some nice things about Jason, actually. Dave not so much, but his jabs didn't have much power as Alex sort of shouted his way over them, LOL.

I don't know, I was sort of enjoying watching the terrified faces of Jenny & Dave :laugh2:

ETA Also loved how Alex talked about Kori's strategy; the way he put it sounded so hard core. Guys, it was a warning!

I think Mrs. P is right, but there's an additional thing. They had been changing up the 3a entrance, and the new entrance did not really work/fit well into the program pattern/ with the second 3a in the long. I felt sure after worlds that they would want to move things around a bit. And for all the reasons Mrs. P gave, it was moved to the first half (did Lease call this a juniorish layout?) I seem to remember that.

One of the most annoying things was Alex sucking up to Jenny as a ballerina, musical, unfierce person, contrasting her positively with Gracie, whom he was characterizing as the opposite. Really? Jenny Kirk whose best ever number was to Chicago???

However, I had a bit of trouble always understanding Ouriashev, but there was another reason he felt Jason would get the quad, other than his great mental attitude and strong work ethic. I think he said coaches had reported Jason doing a good quad in practice.

I also didn't totally understand Ouriashev's meaning here. I thought he might have been referring to hearing that Jason attempted a quad at 4CC, of even referring to that video from a couple years ago now. I'm at work so I can't go back and listen to what he specifically said.

He said something to the effect that he's chatted with other coaches (in Chicago/Colorado Springs) that have seen him work on the quad and that it was coming along. He did say he did not see Jason's practices of the jump himself.

Jason himself in the 4CC blog reference the fact that the 4CC quad attempt was far from his best attempts at the jump, i.e. that it's a lot father along than 4CC SP indicates.

^Very interesting tweet from Jason’s Japanese fan club account. Taken from a Q&A session Jason had with his Japanese fans recently.

I don’t speak Japanese but here's what google says:

QA10. Please tell me that the next season of the program. Is quads put plans? J: 1 this in SP, 1 this to FP, I want to put two to hopefully FP. New program in Rohin, to start the choreography from May.

Wow! Not just planning for a quad next season but multiple quads? Has Jason ever sounded this confident re. the quad before?

Also, new program(s?) from Rohene, yay! :)

Thanks, Mrs. P!

It does sound like the most specific response he's given about quad plans, other than when he said he'd be attempting it at 4CC. It sounds more like he's hoping he can do multiple quads rather than planning on it yet :) I'd take this statement as a good sign. I'm sure he'll be working on it like crazy over the summer to get it consistent, and I'm also sure at the end of the day he, Kori, and Rohene will make the smartest decision they can about when/how many to include.

Is it just me, or does it sound like he only plans to get one new program for the new season?

The Japanese in the tweet doesn't specify. The translation states program, singular, but that doesn't mean it's correct translation.

ETA: To answer another question, Jason states he can't reveal music yet, but says definitively it's not Phantom of the Opera.
