Jason Brown

I think we should wait for the Broadmoor open and then make predictions.

I think he will start with the SP. When the SP feels right it will be in the LP. I suspect they will start off training the SP with the quad so that it is always his comfort zone.

I do think we will see it this season, this is in many ways the season to do it. Being US National champ will give him a bit of a reputation cushion so to speak that will make it less painful to take risks.

Do most people put it in the SP first - is it easier?

Wouldn't it be cool if he does it at Broadmoor - could you maybe go see it?

No, most put it in the long, but Jason does things his way. I think they are doing the SP first for endurance reasons/type reason. He can struggle a little with late jumps at times, he made some comments early in the season about working on it. Also, if he botches a quad early in the long, he has to keep his focus for 4 more minutes while with the SP it is shorter. So doing it in the SP lets him practice keeping focus for a shorter period of time. Learn to keep your focus and endurance up for 2 minutes post quad first, and then for four minutes does not seem like that bad an idea.

I think it is seen as more of a risk to put it in the SP, but it is always a risk.

Broadmoor open is scheduled really badly for me so I am not optimistic.

Ooh hope it works out for you to go! Wish I could but it's unlikely I will be able to make the trip. Might try to volunteer at Skate America, though.

Thanks for your thoughts on Jason and the quad - I kinda thought most people put it into long first, but what you say makes a lot of sense.

It would be like Liza and the 3A - a lot of people were saying she should put it in the long, and that the short was too risky... But the strategy worked for her, so it might very well do the same for Jason - though with the quad in his case, of course.

Yes and the fact that when they tested it in the SP at 4CC suggests they might follow the same strategy going forward. ;)

Just as a point of comparison, Nam has 4S in his long all season long with relatively great success; they tried to put it in the short once and it didn't go so well. Of course, everyone is different. :)

Thank you balletanddancefan for giving me the idea!

I can now officially lock my hopes/dreams/predictions for Jason's 2015-2016 season music:

SP: Any New wave music (UK; the earlier the better). I'm thinking Duran Duran for a lighter, more "upbeat" feel, or The Smiths/Morrissey for deeper stuff. Then he can do a Madness song with lyrics for the gala!

FS: Liszt - Spanish Rhapsody (or almost any Liszt) (or almost any classical piano piece, really, I'm feeling piano very strongly right now)

Oh and then he must keep the SP for two seasons so that I can see it live at Worlds 2017

It would be high-larious to see Mr Ultimate Joy skating to the music of Mr Mope Supreme Morrissey and Company. Heaven Knows I'm Miserable Now. What Difference Does It Make? Holy Cognitive Dissonance Batman! :)

El Henry I have to totally laugh - I didn't love D10's programs that much but I did love the music & actually live most stuff by the Silk Road Ensemble! On the other hand, I also love the Bach cello suites, especially #2, and especially as played by Mischa Maisky - very non conventional Bach style though. In fact I would love to see someone - Jason, for example, skate a program to #2. It is so hypnotically beautiful and would show him and Rohene in a very different light.;)

Yes, Papagena, it shows that perfectly reasonable and wonderful people can disagree on music. Suite 2 would be fascinating, with Ma or Maisky. But, if he wants to be lively, Hungarian Rhapsody No. 6 and Martha Argerich, as was posted earlier, would certainly keep the tempo upbeat.

Oh no, I didn't know these people, in accordance with my usual who-is-anyone after 1985 approach to popular music; I cannot, will not, imagine Jason skating to one of the "Shoot me now" SPs like Josh and Jeremy did this year.:slink: Which means he'll probably do it!

Morriseey (and the Smiths, which he lead) is a bit more nuanced than "shoot me now." There's a bit of humor and wit in his doom and gloom actually, especially in his solo stuff.

A lot of his songs are also more political in nature, like this one: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KKoS5X4SMrY (Irish Blood, English Heart, from his 2004 album).

Also he has one of the best baritone voices in pop.

I will also point out that there is plenty of music that came out after 1985 worth listening to.

Speaking of which, Science Friday had an interesting segment on huge revolutions in music history. http://www.sciencefriday.com/segment/05/08/2015/charting-music-s-big-revolutions.html

The most apparent of them were
1.) 1991 -- the mainstreaming of hip-hop
2.) 1982 -- growing popularity of synths/technology (i.e. Duran Duran and the like)
3. 1964 - British invasion, evolution of rock& roll.

I think if Jason were going to go hip-hop -- early 1990s hip hop might be a much better fit! His mom can give suggestions since that was the peak of Arsenio Hall, lol.

I'm not saying there was no good music after 1985 ...far from it! I'm sure there is plenty, I'm just too old and cranky to listen to it. I'm too busy chasing the neighborhood kids off my lawn:rofl:

Hmmm, 90's hip hop. Like "U can't touch this" (1990)? ;)

If we're going 90's I gotta suggest TLC waterfalls.

It's a bit hip hop and a bit r&b. LeFace records which was the same label as Outkast at that time if I'm not mistaken.

It's a dynamic song that could easily be remixed for skating....if it hasn't been done already. Very easy to clap to.

I'm not so sure he'll go actual hip hop but if he does...than the Fugees "the Score" is loaded with goodies!

It would be pretty cool to if he skated to some old school break beats like "Jump on it". Most of those old tracks have some pretty cool dj remixes that sort of mash up that whole genre of sound. I could see him making his spins look break dancer'ish. A step sequence over one of those conga driven break beats would be pretty mind blowing IMO.

This was pre 1985

Oh no! Don't even think it! One of the many things I love about Jason is that he is not fixated on skating to WWGWG (Whiny White Guys With Guitars) Shoot Me Now music :bang:

I wouldn't mind seeing him do something to dubstep, like that vid Sam-Skwantch posted in the Amazing thread in Le Cafe.

Ahh dubstep would be awesome! My favourite beat

Just looked in Jason's Twitter feeds. He was mentioning about his choreographer, and that he new programs for the upcoming season. I will be very curious what those programs are.

Klezmer would be amazing for a gala program!

Hehe, Morissey is more operatic in his whining...lol. Seriously I'm a fan, so hate him to be lumped in with those other guys...

Sigh...dub step. It's been so overused in pop music --- even my precious K-pop --- that I have a sour taste for it now. I know there is good use of it, but the bad outweighs the good.

I will have to watch Sam's video...cause I can't remember the beat used there.

Although I am sadly ignorant of the music, isn't Morrissey a dedicated vegan (I know from my animal welfare groups). Go Morrisey! :cheer2:Maybe Duhamel/Radford should skate to him?

Breakdancing vids do bring me back, but I just can't see that in anything but an exhibition. And I think we are getting the hip hop exhibition next season....

What an amazing variety of music we've suggested - and quite a lot is unfamiliar to me, so thanks to all for that! It's going to be really, really interesting to see what they actually use (watch, it will be Carmen and POTO)...
