Jason Brown

I am still exhausted and mentally processing everything. But I am finally uploading a few videos as i process my summary (and where best to post it).

So far I have Jason's first round

This is now bad It shows the full round so you can get an idea of the pace of the event.

I really enjoyed myself, but am rather sore from walking too and from and perching in seats.

His new program is beautiful, but not my style. I am not a tinkly piano girl. I think i would enjoy the program more if he did it in a silent arena and just let us listen to his blades on the ice. I think it will be well appreciated/rewarded and be good for his career. It does keep your interest even with the music. I did commented to my better half that I did not enjoy seeing Jason looking like he was about to cry during it (front row, very dramatic sad face, likely aiming for much higher than front row - looks better on video, from the front row, a bit too depressing) better half's response without missing a beat "Well Heaven knows he's miserable now!"

I am going to get as many videos up tonight so feel free to keep peaking. Max is loading now.

EDIT: Jason's videos are being weird, and this got deleted by accident. Max's audio is getting muted, but other than that is working out ok. Will update later.

Thanks for all the reports Stitch.

Sad Jason; I think I'll cry myself:mad: But, since I tend to be in the really tiny minority on this, I am glad Jason will do that which is pleasing to the majority. More important than pleasing me.

As long as he doesn't dress like Harvey Keitel.:laugh2:

So have y'all listened to both parts of the Kori interview? It is amazing. She is amazing.

She said a couple of very interesting things about Jason in the second half. First, that the free skate is intended to stretch Jason toward what Patrick Chan is so great at. That's not exactly what she said, and I hope I'm not seriously twisting her meaning. But I can totally see him getting more power, speed, and flow in his skating once he masters this program. Interesting that someone on FSU said basically he doesn't have the edges of a Chan, Abbott or a Farris, not realizing, I guess, that it is supposed to help him get there.

The other thing she said is that we should see at least one quad from Jason this season, because he finally has a fire in him to learn it. Which is kind of funny, if you think about it. How many times have we all defended him and said, oh Jason and his team know he needs a quad etc. But it sounds like he may have been dragging his feet a bit after all. ;)

I was thinking the exact thing. I know he skated in a practice outfit, but I would love if the final product was similarly simple and elegant.

The first thing that popped into my head was that I would like to see Jason in something similar to what Josh wore for Schindler's List this year. Grey or pastel, pale, no sparkles or ruffles or overdone costuming, long lines, maybe a little blousy looseness in places. Understated and elegant, as you say. Black pants, black boot covers.

I would like to see an all-black, very modern costume. Figure-hugging to show the lines (Max style pants maybe?). Tight top with extra long sleeves. Sort of something you could see a ballet dancer training in . I would add some mesh-covered slashes to the arms for a little variety, but only that. No sparkles.

His quad attempt at the Broadmoor was definitely not his best....it's usually much better than that. I think he needs to get used to doing it during competition which is exactly why it was one of the jumps they opted to go for at Bmoor.

As a Plushy uber let me urge you: Beware of Black! Beware!

(Explanation: It seems that it can be highly addictive... ;))

Thanks for your hard work with these videos. I've wS hoping to see this competition. Jason looks a bit tentative but he's getting the quad out there & that's great!! He fell on quad attempts but were they rotated? Forgive me but I'm really new at catching the fine details... Anyhow. .. Go Jason!!

It looks better than 4CCs here, but on the slow mo at the arena i recall it looked a bit short. But I see two positives we can take away.

1) he did not slow down as much. At 4CC he slowed down so much right before, this he did not seem as cautious.

2) it is no longer a dirty word so to speak. Jason's quad used to be cloaked in mystery, now they just toss in an attempt like it is no big deal. I think that is a good thing to make it less of a big scary monster. It is no longer something they are scared of or trying to hide and keep quiet.

Kori did make a comment in a pre-event interview that this is not the best time for jumps season wise, so even doing it at all is a great improvement.

You're right: I remember now that long entry at 4CC's!! If you needed slow mo to catch his rotation this time it's getting better. The quad is a big risk for Jason b/c he does everything else SO beautifully and suceeds competitively without it. But no doubt he needs it to stay competitive. I recall an interview with his brother Dylan earlier in the year (can't remember when/where) he noted Jason learns by heavy repetition and will do something over and over until he gets it down... spins are a good example and he had a lot of positive competitive experience with his theTA this year. I've heard/read reports that he's landing the Q well in practice which should translate to the public arena with Kori/Rohene's expert guiding hand. The arena can be a scary negative place but Jason has navigated it on many levels for years.... The important thing now is to bring this last element up to speed and gain credibility/momentum with it from peers and fans... a challenge but we in this forum who know him respect his gift are confident he'll do well.

The August issue of International Figure Skating is out, and it has a long Q&A with Jason. It's wonderful. He really opens up about things, like his disappointment when he didn't make the GPF and how amazing it felt when all the other skaters came into the K&C at WTT. He says it was one of the best moments in his life :)

So, I have a question for you all,

Are we looking forward more to hearing the Eurosports comments about Jason's FS, or us getting to mock whatever envious snark Johnny comes up with? I am really looking forward to Eurosports comments and reactions, but man Johnny and Tara, who knows what they are going to come up with.

I was just thinking today that I can't wait to hear what the ESP guys think about the new program! I have a feeling they'll enjoy it :)

Perhaps pettily, I am looking forward to another of those snarky comparison videos showing Johnny's total pettiness again at season's end.

Especially now that not only is Jason doing a very avant garde artistic program, but Max has gone the Black Swan route - Johnny will be spewing the envy everywhere!

Actually the BEsp commentary I am most looking forward to is them commentating on Brendan's programs at Skate America. Mostly because they almost never get to commentate him!
