Apparently, USFS has updated the Team Envelopes for the next season (even thought the table still says 2015-2016): http://www.usfsa.org/story?id=84023. Jason is in Team B - although I hope he can get enough support through any shows he can do. I'm not sure what his sponsorship situation is, though.
I wonder whether skaters buy AFLAC?
Another thing that is good to do:
Check that all the links in the OP work. From time to time, videos with Prince's music are muted or taken down, or youtubers are banned and all their uploads are taken down.
Also federations delete old competition data from time to time.
Sometimes the missing data can be found on Wayback Machine, though.
So we may have just gotten a hint that Jason is going to Skate America
https://twitter.com/USFigureSkating/status/743540726504402944
I am hoping this is a hint because if he is not on the list... well this tweet could elicit some Marge Simpson noises from me.
In theory picking a picture of only one skater (there are many other pictures they could pick - a medal podium is a good neutral choice) should be a hint, or an implication that that skater will be in attendance. If they don't know who will be there... they really should use a picture that shows more than one skater, or a skater you know will not be there (I'd be ok with Jeremy Abbot being used as an example of a neutral choice)... a picture like this should not be used in my opinion unless that skater is expected to be in attendance. At best it is misleading.
So either Jason is going to be there... or USFSA is some strange mix of stupid and/or malicious...i am not sure if thinking they are trolling us (malicious) or thinking they are stupid is more insulting... so pick the one you view as the lesser evil. Really given the choice between deliberate deceit and stupidity... i just don't know which one i would be hoping for... so I am hoping Jason is on the roster!
Really if they were just picking a random skater... or even a random American men's skater... Max Aaron would be the more appropriate choice as he won it last year. If they know Jason is not going to be there (and I am guessing they do know some idea of the rosters) using this picture is kinda tacky and manipulative. Max could actually make sense even if he is not there... or at least I think I could give a little more benefit of doubt.
It was a picture from the Chicago SA a couple years back.... so maybe they were trying to do a "Hey remember the last time SA was here" thing... but none of that is mentioned - maybe it got lost along the way, but i will toss that out as a small benefit of doubt. If they wanted to tie it to the last SA, it would have maybe been ok. As it stands... if Jason is not their I will see this as at best some face palmingly bad PR and marking on their part. While I know skaters can change, and no one has been announced... I see no good in sending out a tweet like this randomly that focus on one and only one skater unless that skaters is at least expected to be in attendance. They are basically engaging in marketing that implies he will be there and I for one would not think highly of them if it turns out to not be true. It easily could have been handled differently and easily could have been anticipated to be misleading. It would be hard for me to see it as an honest mistake.
I honestly did not expect him at SA this year as SA this year is a headache of who should get to go and Jason has had his turn at SA after all for three years now - sharing is good and really Adam and Max have just as strong if not stronger arguments for being there (and I guess at least one could still be there). I was kinda thinking that he would get TEB with Romain and NHK. If he is popular enough to get The ICE, a NHK invite seems not unlikely. I also could see TEB inviting both he and Romain as that could make for a cute story... how France discovered Riverdance first and now one of their own trains with him. Could be a good fluff piece actually.
EDIT: We should be on the look out for who retweets it. If Jason retweets, it is a good sign... if he does not... well that seems a tad out of character for him if he is on the roster.
I'm pretty sure the GP draws won't be done until the end of June. So while the organizers in Chicago might very well want to include Jason Brown, I wouldn't consider anything as confirmed until the official announcement. If two other GP events want him, the USFSA might be happy for him to be assigned to another GP, in order for them to use the host spot to give a GP to someone who might not otherwise be chosen for a GP (e.g. Dolensky, Dornbush, and Johnson are all clumped in the mid-40s in the season's best standings; or Joshua Farris, if he's ready).
Yes of course you're right, nothing is confirmed and the selections won't be announced until June 30. However, by using his picture in a link saying "buy tickets" and featuring it prominently on the Skate America website, USFSA is pretty much positioning him - not Gracie or any of the other 2016 national champions or even Ashley - as the face of the competition. They can be pretty dumb, so anything's possible.
But Jason is a Chicago area kid and he's likely to sell a lot tickets - far more than any of the other guys you mentioned, even Josh (and we don't even know if Josh is training). And given that he's featured prominently in the materials, I think a lot of people might be upset if he's not there. So IMO they have some pretty strong incentives to select him.
