Jason Brown

Speaking of live streams, ice coverage has performed her usual magic :) and reports that Lombardia will indeed be live streamed. Links are in her post in the Lombardia thread!

I've only just realised that they actually wrote "landed". I'm pretty sure that if it had been in any way irregular, ie. UR or stepped-out, they would have written "attempted" instead. This makes me feel a lot more optimistic about Lombardia!

That was the first thing that jumped out at me. Do they really mean "landed" or are they just being verbally lazy? To me landed means fully rotated... but maybe not to everyone else. I tend to think that with Jason the standard to call something "landed" is a bit higher than most... so I am cautiously encouraged by this part though would love clarification on if it really was "landed". Honestly even a UR 4S would be great and deserving of saying good job and would still make me, and I am sure most of you all, very happy. But the idea that it is truly "landed".... goosebumps. Hell even him just attempting it at ChampsCamp would have made most of us happy and excited. The 4T I already was thinking was going to be happening reasonably well... he was so close last season and is looking so good already, I did not think getting back to where he was last season with it was going to be too hard and he was right on the bubble of "landing" it. To be honest I was kinda expecting to hear he about "landed" 4Ts at champs camp as that seems to be what we should have been expecting. But the 4S as well... that is exciting!

If he is "landing" both the 4S and 4T already and can stay healthy... then this could be a real game changer. I mean if he shows up to worlds with both, I don't think the talk will be "can he make the podium" it will be "can take the gold" because I think Jason with both a 4S and 4T actually can compete with Javi and Hanyu... we may be looking at a new top three this season. And what a wonderfully happy and adorably good looking top three that would be!

I keep trying to decide if i should take the tweet at face value... or remain cynical about gossip. Who the heck knows.

It's TSL...for them to report on his jumps at all, they must have been extraordinarily fabulous

Well...I got really excited about those quads for about an hour, but since no one else mentioned seeing them, I'm gonna wait until Lombardia to get excited!

OT but the more I think about the Mariah story the weirder it is. The Hannah Miller and Patrick Chan coaching changes can be verified - tho without details - but no one has confirmed Mariah's move yet. Which says to me that at best, it was a premature announcement.

I'm just interested in who in the world would even leak that information. The whole point of Champs Camp is for skaters to skate their programs without any press. The only folks that are in there are USFSA folks -- so TSL must have a source in USFSA or asked skaters who were there about it. So it's understandable if we haven't heard a lot of stuff.

Two thoughts:

(1) Another possibility is that coaches are leaking. TSL does seem to have strong relationships with a number of major coaches.
To be clear: I am not saying that the only scenario would be that Coach A of Skater B is leaking favorable information about Skater B. Coach A of Skater B might be excited also to see something from Skater X (who is coached by someone else, and who might or might not be in the same discipline as Skater B) ... so Coach A leaks about Skater X.
[I don't think skaters/coaches are allowed in any individual closed-door sessions except their very own?? But they would see each other's practices?]

(2) Less likely, but will mention:
Every year, Tom Z and Christy Krall hold a summer camp for young skaters. It lasts several days at the World Arena.
This year, a new perk of the camp was that campers would be allowed to watch the Sunday practice of Champs Camp skaters. (Might have been practice of Champs Camp singles skaters only.) Just practice. Not any official closed-door sessions.
I don't know whether coaches and/or parents of the young campers also were given access to practice. And I don't know whether any such observers were supposed to be sworn to secrecy as to what they saw.
I find it less likely that TSL would have pre-existing contacts among these observers. But it's not completely unthinkable that one of these observers took the initiative of reaching out to TSL and passing on a bit of information??

Leaks happen, that is nothing new. And tsl does clearly have sources and talks to skaters. If Mariah and Romain were visibly seen skating for raf, it is not much of a leak. But they were both at the otc this week per his instagram, and Ben posted a clip this week with Mariah in it. So it seems sudden and possibly secretive. They are both listed on 7k's instagram, and I think Tomoki's addition is recent.. so it has been updated.

Also Romain and Mariah were not at/involved with Champs Camp... so any leak on that front is not the same as a champs camp, keep it private from press, leak.

As for who leaked Jason's jumps... well people notice stuff. I mean it could in theory be a janitor that happens to be a skating fan. I also would not be surprised if it was an approved leak... for all we know Kori was the leak or TSL cleared mentioning it with her first... really if true it just drives hype and would be a good thing for Jason publicity wise.

I guess i am more surprised that we got *that* leak and nothing else. I assumed when that one came out TSL would have a few more tidbits... but nada. Then again maybe the leaker was caught and got a lecture.

I think you might be underestimating them. I posted a comment on their site once where i mentioned having been at Broadmoor Open... a few days late they used that email to find me on twitter and start following me. I had commented on their site before, with the same email address, but was not added then... only when it came out I had been to an event of interest to them. I literally only have a twitter account for the purposes of following skaters and have never sent out a tweet or done anything other than add people to follow... yet still the fact that a nobody like me was at an event meant they followed me. They still follow me even though it is pretty clear it is basically a dead account. It is not at all unreasonable to think that someone at that that camp had at one point in time also commented on their site and picked up a follow... and if they mentioned being excited about going to this thing... they may have been courted by TSL. Or they may have forgotten TSL follows them and thought they were enough of a nobody that what they said would not be noticed.

But overall I agree with you... there are a lot of potential sources. In fact... i would almost be willing to bet they heard it more than once before reporting it. Frankly I think they do likely know more stuff, but even they have their limits about what they repeat.

Fascinating. Thanks for sharing.

(And of course, you never will be "a nobody" to us :ghug:.)

Ohhhhh ... and you somehow have reminded me, Stitch, that I have been meaning to share a nice photo with the cat-lovers :) in this thread:

Seems that you have more in common with ol' Phil than some of you thought ;).

Stitch, I agree that it is very strange that we have no confirmation yet on the Mariah/Romain move. Hannah Miller, after all, confirmed fairly shortly.

If you are talking about this instagram post from Romain however:

https://www.instagram.com/p/BJYcJW-jSpH/?taken-by=romainponsart

This was probably not taken this week. The translation of Romain's comments: "Unbelievable Tony Yoka [whoever he is, but he's there with Mariah and Romain] A month ago you told us that your dream was for you and your financee to come back with gold medals and a month later you come back 'on the roof of Olympus' ". (I don't know quite how to translate that, it's a great saying, but at the head of the Olympics. Usain Bolt is "sur le toit d'Olympe". )

But maybe you mean another instagram? In any event, not a fan of radio silence;)

Good kitty! helping the owner work. Thanks for sharing.

Though i do want to add that I have less of an issue with Hersh now that he is doing his own blog. Much of my issue with him was the he was claiming to wear a reporter's hat but much of what he wrote was, in my eyes, filled with opinion and came too close to editorial for my taste. Now that he is doing his own blog... i.e. where editorial content and opinion are both appropriate and welcome, much of what i had an issue with before would be fine in this new home. It was not what he said so much as the hat he wore while saying it. A reporter should be neutral, which Hersh was not great at, but now he does not have to be. I think his new own site/blog is a good thing for him and will fit him better. I do look at it from time to time and check out his non-skating articles. He is free to share his opinions in the appropriate venue and now he is. I felt pretty bad for him actually when he had to leave Rio... I hope his kitty helped him feel better.

I was talking about that one... but i don't speak or read French. I got the impression it was taken recently... and it felt implied to be recent as well.

Agree the radio silence just sucks and I don't know what good it does. 7K did just send out an Instagram post but did not update the profile to remove their names so who knows. But the radio silence to me seems unnecessary. No one is reacting poorly do this... everyone's attitude is more that this happens and we wish everyone the best. I just don't know if i see a need for secrecy or see a benefit. I mean it gets us talking... but we would talk more if it came from them!

If anyone is interested here is the other one i mentioned

I have to admit... i had that question as well. In fairness to Phil, his first sentence of his 2015 post worlds article was "Jason Brown delivered" and this was after his not so nice articles. So when Jason does well, he will acknowledge it... so I suspect when and Jason lands his first quad, Phil will say good job... he may say that he needs more quads - of if Jason does too well snark "why did he not land them sooner if he clearly can", but i think he will be respectful of what is actually put on the ice. I think he would be happier seeing Jason land quads and win medals than be right.

You are probably right about PH - but let's not forget to include Jason's 3A in the list of things PH should be watching and will hopefully be happy about!

Well.... let's be hopeful that his 3A keeps looking like it did at GF. I would not be surprised if before long Jason is more comfortable with the 4T than the 3A. But it will take a few comps before Phill says anything nice about his 3A... I so wish we could see his 3A+1/2Lo+3F in comp but I think the only way that is likely to happen is with a 4T+3T, which I am not sure would be worth it vs a 3T+3F and a 4T+2T.

Agreed on 3A! Only 2 weeks to Lombardia, right?

September 8-11th. Two weeks from tomorrow... crazy how fast it came. And the JGP starts this week - with Jason's new training buddy Tomoki

I am looking forward to the chat almost as much as the skating... i really do love our real time chats during comps.
