Jason Brown

Ok, the Jason Brown Fan Page evidently has the same question about Jason's hand, and Bing translate has another incomprehensible answer about Japanese names?

Still waiting for skating :)

according to the explanation provided by the fan club about the scribble on his hand, he was signing an autograph for a fan, who requested him to write her name in Japanese. He dutifully obliged, going so far as to practice first so as not to mess up on the object he was signing, and not finding anything else to write on for a practice, he used his own hand!!! this episode is soooo Jason

Thank you, MGstyle. that is a great story that Bing Translate could not capture.

Agreed, that is sooooo Jason.

So...I'm starting to get excited about the new season! Even though senior men don't compete at Lombardia until Friday September 9, I would think Jason, Grant and Max could be leaving for Italy as soon as Tuesday!

 Is that Shoma's mother? Junko Uno???

Yes...MG, are you planning on going to Lombardia? Also can you tell me, how far is Bergamo from Venice?...I remember you were possibly going but were still working out some of the details.

Unfortunately, I decided against it in the end. They are charging €50 a day for admission, which is purely outrageous for a marginal event like this. Then there is no knowing if I will get to attend the practices. The venue, or even the city of Bergamo doesn't have a proper rink for practice, so it will be either they start the practice session at some ungodly hours in the morning (I mean ungodly even for the skaters standard, who are used to early morning practices) OR travel 20+ miles to Milan (Sesto Sangiovanni) to get some practice in during some reasonable hours. All as if holding an international event involving several top skaters at a rink (even though it's new and spic and span) designed as a training rink with very little space for the spectators is not ridiculous enough, the whole event seems like a folly :disapp: Last autumn Jason came to Europe twice less than a month apart, so I am trying to be hopeful and wait for another occasion.

The distance between Bergamo and Venice, it should be around 2 and half hours drive (not considering pile ups, roadworks & accidents etc.), with train, I don't think there is a direct connection and you have to change the trains at least once (most likely in Milan), and often more than once, plus the high speed trains don't make a stop in Bergamo, which leads to require at least 3 and half hours travel. Another reason for the bad choice for venue, Sesto Sangiovanni (section of Milan) was so much more convenient for the skaters and public alike!

Darn! So sorry you won't be able to make it this time. It doesn't sound like it would be a very good situation. I was really hoping we would get some first-hand reports from you. Maybe next year! :)

Yeah I know I am gutted, because I instantly decided I was going when I saw the news that he will be in Lombardia and was totally juiced up for it. I will keep checking on the following competitions between SA and NHK, there is a good possibility that he may throw in another competition in between.

So... I *think* one of the The Ice shows that Jason was in airs this weekend in Japan... so we may at least have that to look forward to soon.

I really want to see more of Jason's dance battle personally.

Do we have a practice schedule for Lombardia yet? With luck we might gets some word on quad layout from practice.

I really wish they would share the planned content sheets with the public... I would love to be able to follow along live

:console: I'm so sorry :sad21: I can only imagine how upsetting it must be to gear yourself up to see Jason and Max and then to be robbed by some greedy person jacking up ticket prices :furious:

I hope you will get a chance to see him!

EDIT: I just did the conversion. 74 Australian dollars! That's disgraceful! And that's per day?! Disgusting! There should be a petition and letters of complaint! It's a Senior B international, for goodness' sake! :angry1:

No practice schedule that I've seen - it just says Thursday is the official practice.

I did see a snippet of the round one of the dance battle he did and that was a cracker and I defo can't wait to see the final, beating Florent in such a challenge is no small feat!!!! And of course all the rest of the performance he did there, looks like he really enjoyed the tour!
Last year @ ONT the detailed practice schedule wasn't posted until pretty much the last moment, I went to the rink to check as soon as I arrived in Bratislava, the day before. Considering the typical Italian organization & and how things are going for this event, it is doubtful if they even bother to post it  But let's hope we will know something.

All event ticket for the Euro 2017 is 92€ including the gala. And many of the Grand Prix competitions cost less as well, and now I heard that they are making them pay for Wednesday and Thursday, when the Jr. events are held as well!!! I really don't know what they are thinking!!! :scowl:

Since it is slow, ill share something small. His fanclub retweeted an ad for NHK

Interesting to note he is the only skater featured that is not a world medalist. They also chose to put him top center... clearly a prominent position. It also is set up with Hanyu and Jason looking at eachother...as if to say they are the ones facing off against eachother. I can't help but think he must be gaining some legitimate popularity over there if he is being depicted like this. I can't help but feel like popularity in Japan is a mark of success for a skater.

I do think he has a lot of Japanese fans. Aside from that, he's probably the most recognizable name among the foreign men at NHK - not only was he just featured in The Ice, which was televised, he was at World Team Trophy in 2015, where he outscored all men except Hanyu. Also, I think that Japanese television covered the Team Challenge Cup this year, where he placed second behind Shoma Uno, and he placed 4th at 2015 Worlds in Beijing, which I think a lot of Japanese fans attended. And of course, he's an Olympian. So for advertising purposes, I can totally see why they chose him.

On the other hand, I don't realistically think he's a shoe-in to medal at NHK, although of course he may (and I hope he does!). The men's field is a little weird there this year in that there aren't a lot of "names" but a couple of the "no names" have pretty high scoring potential (Nathan and Mikhail Kolyada, for example). But I guess we'll have a better idea about the field overall - and Jason's chances - by November.

I think we will have a better idea by next week! (about bloody time too!)

NHK and Skate America are both kinda like that actually. Not a lot of clear favorites but a lot of maybes. Heck at this point Jason is one of them. You are right that at NHK there are many that could/can beat him, but how many will that day... not all is my only guess!

I think Jason clean with a quad in each could likely be enough for silver at NHK... and gold at Skate America for that matter... or heck Hanyu has had bad enough days that could leave Jason with gold. Especially with a little momentum. I suspect Jason is going to be well rewarded for any clean quads he does... especially with his current programs.

I am hoping for at least one UR no fall quad... i think that is very realistic. I think if he can do that he, he will get at least one clean with positive GOE at Skate America. Which would leave him on a very good track for the rest of the season.

Practice gossip from Lobardia can't come soon enough... and when are we going to see more from The Ice?

As far as The Ice, Japanese television is showing full broadcasts today, 9/11 and 9/18. So hopefully some kind souls will put stuff up on YouTube.

Jason, yeah, Lombardia will tell us something, but what? I'm a little confused by what he's said in various interviews - on the one hand he will put one quad in each program in Lombardia. On the other hand, last year was push push push but this year - no, he's going to be himself, his timeline is 18 months - the Olympics. But we hear he's landed two different quads in practice at Champs Camp. So not quite sure what to make of him at this point.

I actually think Skate America has a really tough field: not just the obvious guys like Shoma, Boyang, and D10, but quite a few of the others. Everyone expects D5 to show up because it's early in the season, but this year could be different. Nam, Kovtun and Voronov have all changed coaches, so they're complete wild cards. Daisuke Murakami is certainly capable of medaling. Brendan Kerry is looking good. And then of course there are Tim - who has been showing quads - and Adam - who said he wants to add back a quad toe by the Japan Open.

All in all, a tough field!
