Jason Brown

Wow so he'd have been way over 90 with a clean quad and full levels? Sweet!

Yup. And that's without adding any plus GOE for the quad - just putting him at 0.

Adam would have earned a few more points if he'd successfully done a 4T rather than a 3Z but I think he would likely be behind Jason by a point or two - or maybe tied if Jason got negative GOE for the landed quad. If he successfully landed a 4Z, tho, he'd maintain his lead.

Seems weird that Adam got all his spin levels and Jason didn't

I don't know - Jason does sometimes miss levels and the feed was so bad I couldn't even see what they were doing. I also questioned some of their GOE and PCS calls - for example I'm not really sure why Adam got higher PCS than Jason on his 3A because IMO it wasn't warranted - but the judges saw what they saw and that's that.

I could actually see in real time that he was short a rotation and when I went back and watched it again, I counted it. Probably just a miscount. He only missed it by like one rotation. You basically have to do 8 rotations in three positions, so that's 24 rotations. I'd probably lose count myself!

Yes she actually posted in the comp thread here (nothing of substance), and she's the same person whose practice vids are linked in this thread and the FSU fan fest. I am very grateful for her practice run through clip, not only because we got to see the program with a clean quad, but because there were no interruptions due to the poor feed. ...

I too am grateful to shirfire . I know her videos already were in this thread, but I would say that her eyewitness comments in the competition thread have as much or more substance as a jillion other posts in that thread and in this one. Copying her post here:
Not Only is Jason's Quad so close...I've been at the venue all the last few days and he's been absolutely NAILING the quad in practice, including the SP program run through yesterday. Just beautifully done. I caught that one and another beautiful one from practice on vid....so it is NOT that he can't do them. I didn't know that until I saw it with my own eyes.

If shirfire attends more practice and/or the FS, I hope we will hear more from her .

Good luck to all the men in the FS :yay:.

Thx for the explanation, Mrs. P .

Goes to show that practicing something countless times at home without any issue does not guarantee that one will not crop up in competition.

ETA, a detail from Joe Johnson's SLC blog posted today:
The flight out Tuesday night went without a hitch, and we settled in fast. Jason Brown got in around 11:30 that same night same from Italy, and let me tell you after just having seen him skate in the Men’s Short, jet lag seems to not have any adverse effect on him.

(I don't know whether Jason already had Snapchatted about just how late his arrival had to be. Anyway, glad that his SP went so well. Maybe the missing rotation from his spin can be chalked up to a momentary effect of jet lag.)

I've been away from fs things during the summer. Has there been a reason given for why they created a new short for Jason? I thought the one in april was for this season too.. I'm happy jason's jumps are doing so well but i wish he'd do new choreography with new movements and maybe a new choreographer.. I mean.. Rohene is great and all but there's so much sameness in his programs..

This looks like it will be enough to get him in the final group at Skate America so I am happy about that.

Hopefully, his getting two rotated quads two competitions in a row will be a confidence booster for him to know he can indeed do this.

The popped 3A was out of character for him. Still the 3A he did was lovely.

Also he got the 3Lo this time... so hopefully that is a sign that it is not an issue.

He really is on great track this year for a great season.

I can forgive him the popped 3A. Two comps on two continents in two weekends is a hard ask, and it looked like he just lost a little bit of concentration. I'd rather him get that out of his system now than at SkAm.

Quad looking better. He's so close...Skate America, I'm sure. I'm so sure that that's where he'll stand up. And of course that FS is completely divine and has me almost in trance whenever he does it.

Well I wouldn't be surprised if he did back-to-back comps so his body could get used to peaking consistently. If nothing else, he won't have that scenario again, so he might confidence knowing he can perform relatively consistently even if he has to deal with such a competition scenario.

So apparently he did a beautiful quad in both warmups, before the short and the long. It's coming!!

I was wondering if part of it might be long/term training for the Olys, should he be lucky enough to be chosen. It essentially replicates timing for team event followed by men's event. Otherwise, how else can you prepare for that?

@Mrs. P thank you for posting that data in the FS thread. I really do like Mura, but even more, I would hate to think Jason won because of home cooking - which of course people are crying here. The data showed Mura's PCS at least in this program was within his regular numbers. I honestly thought Jason - aside from the fall and popped 1A - skated really well, and that the PCS ranking and the relative gaps were correct based on what I was able to see, but you do wonder.

I think I would have been happier for him with silver and a beautifully landed quad than gold an a fall (though of course im thrilled for him) but hopefully @karne is right and he'll do it at SA - with me watching!

Interesting strategy for Jason to go for back-to-back events. Given his priority to put his health foremost, there must have been a real confidence in his health coupled with a desire to get him back into 'competition' mindset. To health! Mental and physical!

I remember when he did two back to back events last season (SA & Ice Challenge)...the 2nd event was not good. I was therefore expecting a comparatively weak performance here, but Jason being Jason, he just doesn't make the same mistake twice! (Also he was injured at IC last season)

I'm happy to hear this! Was he landing quads in competition warm-ups last season before the injury?

I don't think so... I think this time last year most practice reports said that he was really struggling with it, but this year at both his competitions he's reportedly performed some beautiful quad jumps in practices and now warm-ups. Inching closer!

I think the big audience reaction you can hear in the warmup is Jason doing his quad!

That was what Jackie Wong said - too bad the camera didn't capture it. I think the best vid I've seen from the comp so far is shirfire's clip of the SP practice. So nice !
