Jason Brown

True, and I guess if this is his first FS run through, which needs a lot of stamina, maybe it's not so bad. Tomorrow he just needs to get through 3 jumping passes. Hopefully that will be easier.

I'm a little confused as to the reported jumps. But presumably: 3A, 3A +2T, 2A, 3Z, 3F+3T, 3Lo, 3Z1/2Lo3S?

ETA yeah he may have to focus on next year, because right now I'm wondering if he'll even be in final group for FS, much less place high enough to be considered for World Team. The new selection procedure doesn't really help him that much because he wasn't at Nats, 4CCs or Worlds last year, and because he did poorly at NHK.

I guess we'll see, though!

I'm guessing there's a second 2A after the 3Lo, which is what he's been doing all season.

Hoping we might impose on some of our Japanese reading or speaking fans to at least give a summary of this fan-art cartoon, featuring Jason (and Rohene.) Google won't translate handwriting, unfortunately. I did understand "You're number one"

Now I need to go rewatch for the umpteenth gazillionth time Riverdance.......

the comic is about Rohene Ward, and how, 10 Years ago at US Nationals the artist was captivated by this (at the time rare) Hispanic skater with his long legs and arms and beautiful positions in his spirals and spins.

Congratulations to Jason for not giving up on the performance even with his jump mistakes. His PCS were well earned and the
audience seemed completely taken by all his choreography, spins as well as the jumps.
I am so proud of his efforts and desire to try at Nationals even not as his best physically. His always sunny personality is inspiring and infectious as well.
He is still a serious competitor and I know he will try his best to mesmorize us with his beautiful long program.
I want to send lots of love and great wishes his way.

Jason is special. He committed. And for someone who just started jumping again 10ish days ago, I give him credit for what he did.

I could watch him skate all day.

I feel really sad that Jason felt like he had to skate injured in order to be considered for the World Team. It's going to be much harder for him to get through the free skate on Sunday.

I don't see it that way. I think Jason sincerely enjoys the competitive atmosphere. I think he sincerely missed being at Nationals last year and he didn't really want this to keep him away for a second straight year.

When I interviewed him at TCC, he talked a lot about how much he missed Nationals because it's one of the few times where he can meet up with the other men skaters.

He also talked a lot in his conference call about showing how to do what you can even if you don't feel ready. Honestly that felt like a page right out of parenthood to me, lol. But I think he does want to fight for the World spots the best he can.

It's sort of like Meb K. (reference for el henry who is a fan) at the Olympic Marathon, he had some sort of stomach issue that lead him to throw up multiple times, but he didn't give up (and finished) because he wanted to show his kids how to persevere in spite of struggles.

I'm coming here to read good things about Jason because other forums are hell xD

I really like his skating and he's just so beautiful to watch and feel. I can't stand thinking he can miss Helsinki. Not only for him, but also for the sport. Not showing his skating to the world it's just wrong. I know he won't get a medal, I know he needs quads and that he's technically behind, BUT HE NEEDS TO BE THERE SO PEOPLE CAN ENJOY WHAT HE DOES, WHICH IS MAGIC AND JUST PURE JOY. He's unique, dammit, he cannot stay at home !!! :hpull:

:luv17: :luv17: :luv17: :luv17: :luv17: :luv17:

AAAAAH, I hope he has a good FS so he can be really happy, and proud, and we can cry all together, and he can be second after Nathan. Bufff I love his FS. So much. I can't even. :sad46:

We do have different perspectives, I guess. I heard Jason's conference call, and I have no doubt he was sincere in saying those things. But despite the time he spent talking about inspiring others (Gracie actually came to mind) what I heard most strongly was "I really want to go to the Olympics and I want everyone to know it; with respect to Worlds, I had a very strong season until the injury; I'm skating injured and people will see where I'm at in my recovery; I trust the selection committee."

The good news from last night was that he does look better than at NHK. He's jumping higher and stronger again. I think the fall on the 3A was a problem with his take off (he was very tilted in the air) that probably had more to do with lack of training time than the injury. He just doesn't have his normal confidence due to lack of reps. If they're smart they'll talk to Frank today to give him the best shot for the FS.

I do think going first after the practice warmup will help, but I'm still not sure whether a full FS will be too much right now.

I think what happens to him will depend in part on what goals USFS has for Worlds. If they're most interested in promoting Nathan, they may just send the top two regardless. If they're trying to get three spots back, I think a healthy Jason is probably the best bet followed by Max, but I'm not sure if USFS would agree.

Really hope the best for both Jason and Max tomorrow. OT but I really like Max's new SP and costume and his spins are much better, so kudos to him.

I don't dispute that he wants to fight for a Worlds spot, but I don't think he sees it as "oh I have to skate injured to do so." I see him more embracing the challege and giving it his best shot. I think he does want to show others that setbacks aren't going to stop him either.

But I don't think he'd be here if he could get to Worlds another way. He's clearly not fully recovered, and my guess, based on my own bone injuries in my foot, is that he's delaying his recovery time.

He only has to get through the FS on Sunday. He'll be ok whatever the result. I think he'll have peace knowing he tried regardless of the result.

If not 4CC/Worlds, I'm hoping he will be considered for WTT. That competition does count toward SB and it isn't until April.

Me, too!

I'm not trying to sugarcoat things, but I had imagined that with his injury, Jason could end up much further down than 4th in the SP, so I'm ok with his placement. I know the LP will be hard for him and I sort of wish he didn't have to do it at all, to preserve his health, but it is what it is, and he'll get through it. I'm just sad for him about his injury and that he has to deal with this 2 years in a row. I love seeing him skate so I selfishly want him to finish high so I can see more of him this season. Not to prove anything to anyone, but just to be able to appreciate the beauty of what he brings to the ice. Bon Courage to Jason on Sunday! I'm sure he will give it his all.

On another note, I'm thrilled that Jason's training partner Jordan skated well after his serious injury. What a great come-back, especially with skating right after Nathan.

That might not be a bad idea. His 3F is really solid, so repeating that might garner him more points that an a 3A<.

His practice sounded better today. He's got those 3-3s down.

Shout out to Meb, I love it!:gclap: Maybe Jason does have some similarities to Meb, he doesn't set records, he just gets the job done. It is definitely not in Meb's nature to DNF (other faster runners would have just quit) and Jason, IMHO, is the steeliest competitor of the lot and finishes what he starts.

That said, part of me does think he is out there because he didn't skate last year, and his petition was rejected. This way, they can't say they don't know where his training is, or what his performance level is. He is clearly still injured, or just coming back, but he is reminding everyone of that mile high performance level.

Just please stay relatively healthy!:hap10:

Sorry for the double post, but I am curious on a completely different topic:

what is the photo contest that the Japanese fan clubs keep reposting on Twitter? Google translate is not helping much (and thanks to Specs for the earlier explanation of the Rohene comic).

Sad fact: as a faculty spouse (even retired faculty), I can take courses at Local Large Private University for free. Including Japanese. But have I gotten off my keister to take even one? Even since I retired? Nope, not me.:curse:

Oh I totally agree with you. He's such a positive person I can't imagine him ever having a pity party. It was me who was regretting him having to skate injured. Anyway, looking forward to seeing his gorgeous free skate tomorrow.

TSL did interviews in the mixed zone. The whole thing is worth a listen. Jason's interview starts at about 5:45, right after Nathan. He's super positive, and very complimentary to Nathan and Vincent. He is not just a fantastic skater, but an amazingly impressive, well-grounded young man. Seeing how much perspective he has on the situation makes me happy for him.

That was a good interview, especially the part about how he's a fan of "U.S. Men's skating" and wants to be a part of it. Honestly, I think he doesn't want to be given favors unless he has made a case for it.

And honestly, it's probably more fun to "recover" with the Nationals atmosphere rather than have to be solitary at this rink. And obviously performing for the audience is one of the big perks even if he doesn't get the result for Worlds/4CC.

Also found this cute tweet from Ashley Wagner.
