Jason Brown

- He has a balletic quality that reminds me of Russian skaters.

This is making me crack up so badly because I showed my own his video of SA FS, and the first thing out of her mouth was - is he Russian? Exact same reason too :laugh2: She loved him!

Obviously a woman of very good taste! :agree:

I just thought of something ... Mittens were knitted and given out to the skaters at the Finlandia Trophy ... Do you know if something similar is planned for Worlds?

That's a good question! Unfortunately I don't know the answer, which is embarrassing because I've been volunteering for the LOC for nearly a year now :D

Hahaha that's brilliant!

It's also very high praise from my mum, who thinks Russian skaters are in a league of their own and everyone else is fifth-tier :D

I'm just quietly chuckling, imagining Jason with a flat top :laugh2:

Oh goodness, exactly the same! She's so, so old school, especially when it comes to the men and pairs, so that was a huge compliment.

Please, don't go there, my eyes, my eyes

I am so happy for Jason in making the world team. :yahoo: He has that fighting mentality which serves him well in situations like he's experiencing now and USFS made the correct decision to send him instead of Vincent. His not so great LP in the Olympics was the spring board for him learning how to fight through programs when it counts most. International judges love his skating even without a quad. If he's not healthy leading up to worlds, he will do the right thing and withdraw...it's just who he is.

There was so much nastiness and angst towards him in the short program thread from a couple posters with evil agendas, that I'm so happy he put out a fantastic skate without being 100% and with errors on his final jumping pass. You can respond to posters who are adamant about sending Vincent even though he doesn't have the minimum Senior TES score until you turn blue in the face, and you'll still get that Vincent should be sent to worlds. Why is it so hard to understand the situation with the necessity to get 3 spots for the Olympics as opposed to sending someone to gain senior experience at the expense of the team? Naming the strongest team for World Championships this year had to come before individual gain, and I'm sure it wasn't a difficult decision for the committee to make. Also, putting that kind of pressure on Vincent this early in his career could stunt his growth if he failed to bring back the 3rd spot or heaven forbid if he should completely fail and loses the second spot. Let him gain experience like everyone else had to do by doing other senior events first.

I was in the arena on Sunday and Jason was so beautiful. I choked up during and afterwards and was on my feet like the rest of the audience. There were a lot of first timers sitting around me who were stunned by his skating and thought he should have finished 2nd. Of course I had to do my part to fill them in on the scoring and inform them that he finished in the proper position.

I know that I have bitched and moaned about the This & That section of TSL, but I thought I would try the Nats recap, (of course I can't do two hours, just went to the men) and...

I really like this Jonathan Beyer. (ETA: Never saw him before, although I know he's been on before. ) And he phrased what we all know about Jason in such a way that really made sense to me (and as a performer himself, Jonathan was sensitive to it):

It's not just that Jason is one of the "one or two men" who actually loves skating and projects that. The audience loves Jason (in part for projecting that he is loving skating). And finally, after the performance, Jason then reflects that love back to the audience.

Of course, Dave then interrupted Jonathan's thought to talk about some restaurant story and some inside joke about their friends at Nats, but this description has stayed with with me.

That, and the way the audience gasps during the spiral in the pericope:luv17:

Ice Network has a video of Jason's FS (you do have to be a subscriber to access :()
http://web.icenetwork.com/video/topic/213367170/v1220923683

However, I'd try to see if there's a YT version of this. The skate is nearly free of any commentary except for Michael Weiss commenting on Jason's nice spin positions during his camel spin and lots of nice comments from him at the end.

I think the camera angles might be different too.

Oh thanks for the heads up! Looking forward to that.

I must say that at least as to Jason, Michael Weiss has become one of my favorite commentators. He understands and comments on what's special, but he is mercifully silent during most of the performance. What a contrast to his Nats 2014 commentary, when he talked so much that people actually tweeted at Icenetwork to get him to stop!

And you guys, I've been horribly remiss for the past few months, but I promise I will update the OP again soon. Any special requests for pictures, video clips, etc, let me know - you can just post a link to what you want and request that I add it.

Okay, true story I need to tell some group that may appreciate it:

very very windy day here. Went out to the garage and saw this refrigerator sized ugly taped up box (not mine) by the door. Since I am ornery, I examined the packing label, intending to put it in the owner's trash, but the recipient was someone I don't know at an address far from here.

The sender however, was, wait for it....

"Vincent Zhou"

Do the wind gods want me to change my allegiance?

(and yes, I know there are not so many Chinese surnames and obviously it is not skating's Vincent, but still....)

If a box from "Nathan Chen" lands in my backyard, I will know I'm in trouble:angry2:

Was anyone able to watch this? I sat in my doctors office trying to stream it on my phone but was unable to do so even though I have xfinity and the right app - so bummed! I saw he had his SP costume so I'm assuming he ran it? Reports (and video clips) welcome!

I was honestly quite surprised he did this given the injury and 4CC in just two weeks.

Not on for another hour here. I'm recording it but wont be able to watch for a few hours.

TODAY usually posts full-episodes that are available for a few days. They will probably post a video of the segment itself too.

They probably won't post it until after the show completes its run on the west coast, so about about 2.5 hours from now.

Yes Tavi, I just watched. It came on at about 9:30. Jason skated a Hamilton song (Wait For It? ) -- not sure if it's his EX? The way he came out and flew around I thought he was competing for the Olympic gold. Typical Jason enthusiasm. Only 1 jump but gorgeous spins, spiral, Russian splits. He talks about the upcoming Olympics. Tamron says "Your sweetness is infectious...Are you always this happy?" He talks a little about National Get Up Day. Then he gives Andy and Tamron a mini fs lesson complete with beginner's twizzles and a few other fun things. It was great and longer than the usual 30 second perfunctory feature they usually do. He is on for a full 5 minutes. Very enjoyable!

Thanks! Sounds great - I'm eager to see it later!

ETA interesting about Hamilton - the costume seems to suit it. He couldn't possibly switch to a new SP? In any cases it sounds like he's recovering even if he didn't do a lot of jumps here.

Someone needs to Tweet at Lin-Manuel Miranda! He asked sometime ago to tweet him if someone skates to Hamilton -- and someone did when Intermediate medalist Phillip Harris did so.

I put my son on the case. We are Hamilton junkies and he has tweeted to him before. I will let you know if he responds.
