Jason Brown

WTT is too far away, I'm still fretting about Helsinki.

I just can't decide what I think would be the best tactic. Play it safe, and leave the quad for the FS alone, playing catch up or just do it in both, considering the current situation with the GOEs and PCS. It's a tough call.

Yup. But they have a month to figure it out. At 4CC they took the quad out after it didn't go well in the FS run through, so I'm sure if they'll have a plan b at Worlds, too. The thing is, Jason knows he's on the team to help get 3 spots for the Olympics. So they'll have to see whether the extra points he'd get for a quad are worth the risk.

Based on WTT 2015, he can probably get around 265 with two gorgeous, pristine, quadless programs. But if he has errors, he could drop much lower - witness 4CC. With one imperfect quad in each program and no credit for one spin, he scored 268 at SA - pretty close to what he might achieve with two stellar, quadless programs. But it's a lot of pressure to skate everything clean, and if he were actually to land two fully rotated quads his score could be 275+.

I personally think if he can land the quad on one foot most of the time in practice, even if it's usually under rotated, he will go for it. If he's still falling a lot in practice and / or the rotation is frequently <<, it's probably a bad risk.

Part of it depends on how they think the other guys will do. Denis Ten just did poorly at AWG; Han Yan did well there, but not so well at 4CC. To the competitors at 4CC, you have to add Fernandez, Kolyada (threat / inconsistent), Kovtun (same). I guess they'll try to strategize based on what he's doing and where they think these guys will fall.

As mentioned in the U.S. Men thread, Adam will be out of the boot this coming week (per Ashley). Best-case scenario, he would have up to two months to train for WTT.
.

With all due respect, "out of the boot" =/= "back on the ice". It could well be a few more weeks before he's allowed back, or to jump.

That's why I said "best-case scenario" and "up to" two months."
We do know that Adam expects to be ready for the first SOI show in mid-April. Not a competition, but at least performing in public (perhaps without jumps).

Do I recall correctly that Jason continued to wear his boot off ice after he resumed training??
So not clear at what point "out of the boot" would apply to him?? Or to Adam??

Anyway, as I said, way too many variables for me to predict who will go to WTT ... or whether all of the men even want to go to WTT (in a pre-Olympic year).

So I will try a little harder not to get ahead of myself ;) ... and will just wish Jason and Nathan all the best with their training for Worlds. :yay:

Hello Jason fans! Dropping by to share this Jason 4CC FS fancam I came across on Youtube. (ETA: loved his smiley face at the 00:22 point after he heard the fans cheering )
Good luck to Jason at Worlds, I will be cheering for him in Helsinki!!! :hap10:

Thank you, Dasani! Welcome to the thread!

ETA just watched it - it's really well done and interesting to see from this angle! Kudos to Angelaaaa for her steady hand and ability to follow him. It's actually better than the broadcast because it doesn't have all those jarring close ups that made it hard to watch.

I'm waiting for the 3rd post with more good news! :clapper: Hope his time proves to be fruitful. Just the fact that he's there with Frank should be good news regarding his condition.

Yeah it occurred to me that they were waiting until he was out of the boot and ready to work on quads before sending him to Frank, and I agree it's good news from that perspective!

Thanks so much for posting the video! My favorite videos have no commentary so I love it. I am able to simply enjoy his skating and the crowds' reaction to his skating. :agree:

Okay Jason fans, doing the unthinkable and posting twice in a row. Rosa74 was right, I'm a great detective, and our wishes have been granted:

Thank you, skating gods; :hap93::yes2::2thumbs:

Forgive my ignorance, but from reading the posts it sounds like Frank lives in Palm Springs, so this rink is closer to him than TSC? I know exceedingly little about California geography.:scratch2:

Yes, Frank lives in Palm Springs. For a period of time (around 2010-2012), he had actually been based at this particular rink exclusively. In fact Mirai Nagasu basically had a 4-hour commute to the rink because Frank was based there (she was obviously in LA), it's what lead to Mirai eventually switching coaches.

He went back to TSC basically when Evan Lyscaek started training there (when he was trying to make a comeback in 2014; if you remember Jason's SA spot that year was originally Evan Lyscaek's) and Gracie ended up there too.

Good news, this.

Oh, how I would love to see Jason land the quad at Worlds, finish sixth or seventh, the three spots are regained, and a truckload of people are left looking really stupid with egg all over their faces.

ya! karne your right ! I just want too see Jason get the quad down period then he should be a unstoppable skating mashine.:love::agree:

Ooh what a pretty picture - when were you there?

I was pretty sure it was from 4CC and was guessing this photo was just his way of letting us all know he hasn't traded Kori for Frank. :)

2008 -- for a young professionals exchange through the Rotary. It was fun seeing the Posco logos at the rink that the US team trained in --- I actually visited that company (it's headquarters was in one of the cities I visited) when I was there.

I'm so glad everyone pointed out Korea.

I just kept thinking, boy, it's awfully cold in California these days if that's how Jason and Kori are dressed, and she didn't waste any time going for a visit....:laugh2:
