this thread lately!!!

so, so happy to re-watch Jason via fancams, hear that roar, enthusiasm he causes, it's just infectious and impossible not to smile or be moved of some sorts watching him.

If there's a will and an appropriate perspective taken, EVERY skater can be appreciated and cherished. Papers, theories and calculations don't jump or skate, nor should be a focus and defining point of any skater, regardless of their skills, level or abilities. I strongly believe that all of them are stepping on ice on purpose to give their best to the audience, to leave impression, to move something inside of even one person watching. I think that 'impressive'/'impactful' skating is really a subjective term of the eye of beholder and I am glad that this powerfulness, magnitude of Jason's skating is so widely appreciate and applauded, because for me not only his skating moves something inside me each time I watch him, but moreover - he carries that inspirational feel outside the rink, too.

Jason has really shown how full-rounded, engaged performance is important at the end of the day and glad it was rewarded by judges, but mostly by audience!

The "WOW" factor and the emotion of Jason's programs cannot be quantified. No need to turn everything into a math problem...I had a chance to speak to quite a few Japanese fans in Helsinki, and they all talked about how much they liked Jason! :luv17:

I think this was a victory for Jason: skating so well in both the short and long, having the crowd with him, the judges still respecting him, and finishing just below the top 6. I don't recall ever hearing such roars for his split jumps before; and the audience cheering so much during his step sequences and spins! How could I not cry and cheer happily for him?

Congratulations on helping give the US three spots for the Olympics. And thank you Jason for the beautiful performances -- I will be re-watching them for a long time!

Love that he donated his pluchies to a local charity. It makes it extra worthwhile for a country to hold these type of events, as the positivity spreads out onwards.

And what a sweet guy he is.

NYC benefit: there was a tweet from one of the Japanese fan clubs showing Jason and Rohene attending performance last night. OK, NYC is pretty close, but $250? For an exhibition skate? Even with three of my faves, Elladj, Rohene, and our boy?

And yes, Jason did promise to rebring the pep to a program next year. I'm holding him to that!

Thanks for this! Don't think I've watched this particular skate before and I do love this program!

Anyone else think attending the NYC benefit is a little weird? I would think Kori would want to get back home to her kids and Jason would want to get back on the ice while he can before leaving for Asia. Why aren't any of Orser's current or former students being touted as attending? Lots of east-coast east flights canceled last night and today due to weather. Maybe they got stranded.

Thanks for this! Don't think I've watched this particular skate before and I do love this program!

Enjoy! It was so special at the end when skaters from other countries came into the box to cheer for Jason. That didn't happen for any other skater.

I notice that Jason frequently tweets in English and Japanese; I think that's awfully sweet of him to acknowledge his Japanese fans as well. He just seems like an all-around nice guy; so, so likeable!

Y'all, there is a very nice quote from Maria Sotskova about Jason on FSU. It's part of a longer interview translated by FSU member Tanya.

She's talking about how she needs to open up more to the audience, and mentions how easy it is for Jason to do it. The interviewer says yeah, he gets a lot of love but doesn't have great results.

Sotskova says, "I disagree, he improved so much this season. He is not a Yuzuru Hanuy, but each in his own time."

So nice that he's getting kudos from his fellow skaters - first Yuzuru and now Sotskova!

Anyway, it's a great interview and well worth reading - I didn't know much about her, and she's quite interesting - and she describes the highly competitive nature of Russian ladies skating so vividly!

You could be right!

He said in the Ice Talk interview that at some point (not necessarily this season) he'd be interested in skating to (1) Latin music; and (2) a musical. For Latin, he mentioned tango (no, please!) and sambas. For musicals, he mentioned a couple of shows including Hairspray (!) but I'm drawing a blank on others right now. I'm quite sure he didn't mention Hamilton specifically, but since he just seemed to be throwing stuff examples, I don't think that means it's out of the running.

Maybe Rohene's getting ideas for Latin too!

^^^At one point, I realized Maria S. was sitting 2 rows in front of me. Can't remember for which event (it's all a blur at this point!)...I can SO see Jason doing something Latin, and I'm sure Rohene would give him a fabulous choreography!

I would love a Latin program!

Just not a tango, please. Or at least, not this season.
