Jason Brown

Well, since 2020 is the Summer Olympics, maybe Jason would just like to take a break and start working on the next career steps, if possible, even if still skating? (I hope!)

Can you imagine behind the scenes fluff pieces with Jason?

Based on his little backstage tour, he'd be great at fluff!

But as to taking a break...maybe, but he's already lost a lot of time to injuries in the past couple of years, and given how fast men's skating is evolving and how iffy many recent "comebacks" have been, I really wonder if he'd go that route. The summer Olympics probably fall during what's arguably his heaviest training period (August) before the season starts, so it's hard for me to imagine him taking a break from skating then. On the other hand, I guess it's possible that he could skate through the 2020 season, then go to Tokyo with the aim of teaching during the school year starting in September 2020, and if invited to be part of the NBC 2020 team, join them before the school year starts.

I guess time will tell!

In the past he mentioned possibly going to 2022 if healthy. But I think in the Ice Talk interview he said skating isn't his whole life, there's other stuff he wants to do, and also something about sitting down with Kori after Worlds (?) to discuss the future. So really hard to know whether he's come to a decision and this is his first public mention of it.

I will be really sad if next year is last year! But maybe it explains the two quad short program.

I would think that most of these elite level skaters meet with their coach(es) at the end of every season to have a (hopefully) honest discussion about the next season. Or at least they should.

Jason would be entertaining in fluff pieces but I think that the Shibs are already lining that up with the experience that they had with the demonstrating Olympic Sports and Paralympic Sports for the Rio Olympics last summer.

Tanith Belbin White also hosted Team USA's "Road to Rio" series last year and is regularly seen commentating a number of different sports on NBCSN.

Sports media is insanely competitive and jobs are already spare - we are know the shock this week of ESPN laying off 100 writers and on-air personalities due to financial difficulties. If Jason wants to pursue this as a career, I hope he is starting on it - right now.

Yes, I'm sure you're right about elite skaters meeting with their coaches each season (and also that sports media is super competitive). It's just that I think Jason mentioned it on Ice Talk in the context of a question as to his career path going forward.

I actually think Jason would make a good stage actor. Looking at those photos you can see that the expressions would read well in a theater but are almost overwhelming in closeup.

Didn't Jason do a lot of drama in high school?

Wonder if Jason could record his Olympic fluff pieces (cos they're usually not live, right?), but still figure out a way to get some training done. Maybe he needs to find some Tokyo ice time? Let's hope.

As much as Jason often seems like the guy who never gets discouraged, he's still human. I wouldn't be surprised if the injuries and his status in the quad race are making him consider retiring from competitive skating after next season. I just hope that he'll continue to skate in shows regularly after he retires, whenever that may be.

Not sure about that, but I remember this!

Hmm. I don't think he's discouraged. He did really well in his last two comps. I think he will leave skating when there's other stuff he really wants to do.

We've got a whole year to speculate. I'm sure most international level athletes asses things seriously after the Olympuc season. I hope Jason continues to skate while working towards his future. It would help if he got some sponsorships and Stars on Ice shows.

We'll see which U.S. Winter Olympic hopefuls corporate Team USA sponsors like Visa, Coca-Cola, P&G, Chobani, Kellogg's, Hershey's, Ralph Lauren, etc. pick up.

If the 2016 Summer Olympics are a good predictor - and I'm assuming that they are - they will prioritize picking up athletes who were either legendary in previous games (Michael Phelps, Ashton Eaton) or were considered locks for the Olympics (Nathan Adrian, Simone Biles).

So there was the recent Ice Talk where Tara Modlin talked about representing Kori and Rohene. Does Jason have an agent now? Has he been rep'd by anyone since Shep?

Madison Chock's IG story has a pic of her & Evan with Rohene last night. Have to speculate on why Ro is in LA. To work with Mariah? Or maybe work with Jason while he's with Frank?

I hope Jason is going to The Philippines later rather than sooner with the recent earthquake and tsnunami warnings. I know it covers a large area, but I freak out about those kinds of things.

Jason's agent is not Tara Modlin. I don't know if he has an agent or manager per se, but for PR, he's represented by Klein Curry:

pre Olympics sounds like exciting news, I hope Jason will be safe in his travels later it would be nice if he would get sponcers pick ups and endorsments.

I started a new thread speculating about Olympic sponsorships/commercials. I hope Jason gets some attention. His personality would be great for a family values type add, maybe with his mom crying and Picts of the split jump and falling as a little kid.

Thanks!

So, did anybody catch that Jason said after retiring (1) he'd like to teach English in a Japanese elementary school, and then; (2) get into media and TV, and specifically, he'd like to go to the 2020 Olympics in Tokyo as a commentator for NBC?

Am I misunderstanding or does that suggest he will stop competing after 2018?

Oh no, no, no, I couldn't bear it, I already can't bear what I fear will happen, I couldn't bear it, for this too...
