Jason Brown

FWIW, NBC just announced that it has hired Adam to be a correspondent for the rest of 2018 OWG.
Willie Geist mentioned it this morning on Sunday Today.

Don't know what (if anything) that might mean re Adam's participation in Worlds???
ETA:
What I am trying to say is that maybe(?) Adam and his agent will be trying to capitalize on Adam's "fifteen minutes" of Olympic fame and to immediately extend it as long as possible into realms outside of competitive figure skating??

Gotta say:
I have had the good fortune to have one-on-one conversations both with Adam and (in a completely separate time and place) with Jason.
I was impressed by both -- for coming across as warm and friendly and genuine.
That said, each has a different on-camera communication style from the other.
And I know whose on-camera style I would prefer.
I am happy for Adam, but will admit to having a little pang as to all (on and off ice) that might have been for Jason if he had made the 2018 OWG team. Sigh.
ETA:
An attempt to think more optimistically: Maybe NBC's usage of Adam at this point would mean it is more likely that down the road, an opportunity with NBC will open up for Jason??

Perhaps the silver lining will be that Jason will get to go to Worlds???

In any case, glad that he has been in Palm Springs to train.

As long as we’re speculating, yet another interesting question is which free skate Jason would use. After 4CCs, I would have thought Piano, except that he had such a moment with it last year at Worlds. His recent “you’ve kept me out for the last time” tweet featured that memorable “stop” from Inner Love, but perhaps he just used old practice clips for that tweet. Either way, I vote for the plain black costume. As far as I’m concerned he could wear it forever - so elegant and flattering. But then I again, I eat the same breakfast every day and never get bored. :)

Gonna stop speculating now - as @Impromptu said, Adam likely won’t make the decision until he leaves Korea.

I realize it's actually an old video that he reposted: https://twitter.com/jasonbskates/status/903728347070562304

I'm pretty sure Jason would stick to The Piano.

Makes sense, and I was thinking that was old video because it looks like it was shot in his home rink.

Good for Adam that he gets to be a correspondent - I think he’ll do great, and I’ll be eagerly listening for his bits, because I find him really entertaining. Some of his tweets just kill me, and a few of them have close to 100,000 likes!

What that means in terms of his training time for / desire to go to Worlds is something we’ll just have to wait and see.

:)

... P.S. regarding his time in Palm Springs -- he was there as late as the Men's short program on Thursday based on the location from his tweet.

Small thought re Jason and SoCal:

If/if/if he still is there on Tuesday night (Feb 20), perhaps he will walk the red carpet at the Hollywood screening of Ice The Movie??

"... many special guests from the skating community will be in attendance."

And Jason even was involved in a small companion project ("Why do you love skating?") to the full-length film.
He appears at approx. the 25-second mark of the short video embedded here:
I could swear that I also had seen more of Jason in a longer version of this companion video?? But don't have it at my fingertips.

(BTW, Sean Rabbitt was announced a while back as one of the guests at the screening.)

I'm confused. What did Adam just say on Olympic Ice?

Did he mean that he changed his mind about officially working for NBC? Because it would mean he would need to give up officially belonging to Team USA??

Maybe he means that he cannot be on NBC payroll ... but still will make appearances on NBC air?

(Regardless, I still have my fingers crossed re Jason and Worlds.)

ETA:
I still don't remember Adam's exact words on Olympic Ice, but I see elsewhere on GS that the general message that my ears heard is what others heard too.

ETA:

And now NBC Olympics has put the explanatory Olympic Ice video online, along with an article.

If he worked for NBC he would have to give up his athlete credential, not walk in the closing ceremony, move out of the village etc.

If Jason's name is not the first one on the entry list for this new artistic comp I will eat my skate boots. Talk about an event tailor made for him. Go skate your money-makers, Jason! ;)

Hmm. Maybe he could tweak his ex to DEH - it’s about 30 seconds and one jump short of the requirements and doesn’t really have a st sq.

But what I really wish he’d do is tweak the Wait for It program he did once and only once for the Today Show.

And jumping (hahaha) from the Wait for It suggestion, maybe that could be tweaked into a competitive program?

Hey, if the Shibs can have a Coldplay trilogy, I find a Hamilton trilogy way more interesting. Jes sayin’;)

And remember the Coldplay trilogy was not actually all Coldplay!

Room Where It Happens
Waving Through a Window
Wait For It.

Perfect. :)

Also, Jason tries curling.

He's still in California, btw. (He really should turn off the location services on his phone,)

Chris Plys, Olympic Curler from 2010 tweeted about teaching Jason curling on 2/11/18:

Earlier today I got to spend a bit of time showing @jasonbskates the ins and outs of curling. He caught on faster than anyone I had ever seen.
Was nice to meet you Jason, and thank you @TeamUSA for bringing us out to share in this awesome weekend. I'm very lucky.

Maybe Jason could go to the Olympics one day as a curler ... after all, curling pants and Jason are a perfect match.

I've been sick (flu/bronchitis) and haven't paid too much attention to the Olympics other than to check on results, but I do hope Jason will compete at Worlds.

The new Broadmoor competition sounds perfect for displaying Jason's all around artistic strength.

Get well, @Katmari! The flu has been widespread this year:(

And since Jason isn’t skating, ETA: at the Olys. no need to rouse yourself:laugh2: except now I see Jason in those Norwegian curling pants; he’d love them;)

Katmari, thanks for posting the Chris Plys tweet! I love the curling video - Jason looks great at it! Hope you feel better soon! I feel like I've been a hermit this winter trying to avoid crowded places and germs.

Missy Franklin was the young, effervescent Olympian of 2012, just like Jason was in 2014. I bet there was a lot of sunshine in that room.

What do folks think about TSL’s tweet about Jason and Kori? Can it possibly be true?:(

I want to discuss here, because if I head into the Main Forum, I fear there may be too many “told ya so” and “Jason needs big time help” posts, which I can’t deal right now. The old lady cane is too far away:biggrin:

If it’s the right move for Jason, fine. Maybe a change of scenery and perspective will be good. Oh Jason, always getting attention even during the Olympics you’re not in, lol.
