Jason Brown

We might never know? How was he supposed to know that Ross was going to turn it down?

I know it's easy for us to think 'Well Ross turned down 4CC, so it's obvious that he won't go to Worlds!" if he's going through a move, a coaching change and what not...he's probably not exactly thinking who is and who isn't going to worlds.

Honestly a little communication between USFS and all of the alts would have been nice. I think there is plenty of disappointment to go around this last month and a lot of things could have been handled better. And until someone chooses to share more, im likely going to keep thinking things could have been handled better on many many sides.

LOL. And people say Jason isn't getting any shame that Ashley is. He's getting it in his own FF thread. How nice. :sarcasm:

I don’t know why Jason declined, but that is a separate issue from why Max wasn’t training for the event, regardless of the fact he was third alternate. Yes the odds were low that he’d get called up, but they weren’t non-existent. It was fairly obvious that Ross might decline, so Max was in effect second alternate. I think Max just played the odds - that he wouldn’t be called up - and lost. The truth is, had Jason accepted the spot and gotten injured at the last minute, it would be next man up, and whoever replaced him would have far less than 3 weeks to prepare.

I don’t see the point of judging him based on that lack of knowledge, by ymmv, of course.

But people were prepared to assume he told Max, or even that he did it as a gift to Max, based on no evidence but what we knew of his character - heck, I was one of them!

For goodness' sake, I'm not trying to shame him. I'm just disappointed that he appears not to have warned in advance. I mean, Ashley says she told Mariah early. It would be nice to know when Jason knew so we could figure out where the communication screwup occured.

And of course Max should have been training. That's a separate issue. But think about it: when was the last time, even in an Olympic year, that the third alternate was required? As Tavi said, he gambled the odds and lost.

It's nice that Ashley notified Mariah, but she still wasn't training full blast--and she was notified only TWO days before she had to go she was heading to the competition.

And I doubt anyone is going to say anything. And I don't see why one needs to point fingers at Jason when there's so little information.

ETA: However, I do get why the vacation photos on IG may look bad....

As long as USFS is OK with what Jason decided and when he decided it, I’m OK. And he’s an adult person who needs to make decisions on his own best interest.

That said, as a skating fan who loves to watch Jason skate, would I have rather been chasing down videos of Jason competing at Worlds on YouTube?

Or waiting, uhh, breathlessly, for Dancing through New Zealand videos? You decide

I am soooo confused, but obviously we are not meant to know, and must trust that all will be revealed in the fullness of time......

Are you assuming that because he’s now traveling in NZ, he must have known a long time ago that he wasn’t going to accept Worlds if it were offered - i.e., that he has been planning to go to NZ all along? Because I don’t think that’s necessarily the case.

What we know about Jason is that he loves loves loves representing the US in international competitions. I don’t think he would have declined the Worlds spot unless he felt for some reason like he couldn’t represent the US to the best of his ability.

The fact that Kori was at Worlds with Laurine, but not with him, and the fact that he’s been totally silent on the matter and has just been throwing out random photos of himself hanging out in California suggests to me that he’s kind of ... rudderless now. I think that would make it very hard for him to focus and have the right mindset to compete well at Worlds. Whatever is going on, he needs time to absorb it. If it means being with a new coach, he needs time to get used to the idea that it won’t be Kori standing at the boards with him anymore.

Frankly, I wouldn’t be surprised if he was simply not training well and maybe Frank or one of the other coaches he’s worked with or even someone at USFS suggested that he would be better off not competing because he was too shaky or something.

Anyway, if that’s the case, maybe he couldn’t give Max a heads up because he didn’t figure it out himself until the last minute.

The trip might have been something Jordan was already planning and once he was free he just tagged along. Or maybe they planned it as a contingency - if he didn’t have to go to Worlds they’d try to get cheap last minute tickets.

It is just really hard for me to believe that Jason would have been blasé about Worlds and about how his actions would affect his teammates.

OK, @Karne will have every right to laugh at me now, but until I saw Jason’s latest tweet, it did not dawn on me that it was *autumn* in New Zealand:palmf:

And I’ve been to a summer wedding in Chile in February, so I should really know .... of course that was 30 years ago and my memory isn’t what it used to be.

Any bets on how long until we get “Dancing through New Zealand”?;)

I love the Jason in the tree photo:

(I can't be the only person who hears Howard Shore's score for the Lord of the Rings movies in my head when I look at the photos.)

Actually, a lot of his NZ pictures have been stunning. These are truly amazing:

Although they are giving his BFF Grant H. anxiety attacks.

Would you please just calm it down? Every time I see one of these pictures I get an anxiety attack from all of your risk taking.

Tangently related, Jason's other BFF Karen Chen is working with Rohene on her SP for next season (I posted about it in Karen's FF.)

YES! My husband did the LOTR tour when he was there a few years ago for work. I still kick myself for not going along with him. It really is beautiful.

Grant's tweets have been hilarious!

Rohene has been busy. He also did Vivian Le's long and short.

Jason HAS to come back soon. Almost time for SOI rehearsals.

Yessssssssss, the hair stays :yahoo:

.... and even though I'm not a fan of the travelogues and have never seen or read any of the LOTR movies, (one of spousal unit's housemates at Oxford was a Kiwi, does that count ) the photos of NZ are stunning.

And Grant is just too much, I :luv17: him so. Was his comment on Jason's skiing photo "Have you learned nothing from my horrible experience with that horrible sport", or words to that effect, already noted? (Grant fell down the bunny slope in Colorado, I think.) I want to crash that wedding

And yes, didn't Charlie or Meryl tweet that rehearsals start in three days? And I think it's the first night of Passover soon? Time to come home!

I’m just gonna be a broken record: where is he training next season? It will be so strange if he ends up back with Kori for their umpteenth season together, especially after not going to Worlds and pointedly not saying a thing about it. I mean he’s been super chatty about posting his moments of deep contemplation and adventures in Palm Springs and NZ and oooh SOI, but not a single thing about how sorry he was to have to decline Worlds or how excited he is for next season. Okay he clued us in that he’s getting a new Rohene short program. But they’re working at Monument while Kori just...happens...to..be..gone. It’s just weird. :drama:

FWIW, I don't think it's business as usual with Jason. He's working through something in his skating life that he's not ready to share yet. In a few weeks the Stars on Ice tour begins and Jason will be doing interviews / meet-n-greets so I won't be surprised if we get some answers soon.

New Zealand is breathtakingly gorgeous and I thoroughly recommend it to anyone considering going. Of course, then you also ought to plan to hop a 3-hour plane ride across the ditch and come see me.

I'm glad the hair remains. I've had enough skating upheaval this season, let me have just this one thing

Why will it be strange? Why is Jason working with Rohene at Monument while Kori was obliged to be at Worlds weird?

Maybe I'm just too attuned to dealing with Max and Josh, but I just...can't see that as a big deal. I'm sure Jason had a reason for skipping Worlds. I'm still rather interested to know what the timeline was, when people knew, but Jason isn't obliged to tell us.
