New Zealand is breathtakingly gorgeous and I thoroughly recommend it to anyone considering going. Of course, then you also ought to plan to hop a 3-hour plane ride across the ditch and come see me.
I'm glad the hair remains. I've had enough skating upheaval this season, let me have just this one thing
Why will it be strange? Why is Jason working with Rohene at Monument while Kori was obliged to be at Worlds weird?
Maybe I'm just too attuned to dealing with Max and Josh, but I just...can't see that as a big deal. I'm sure Jason had a reason for skipping Worlds. I'm still rather interested to know what the timeline was, when people knew, but Jason isn't obliged to tell us.
I do think you’re viewing Jason’s behavior through the lens of your experience with Josh and Max. I also think you’re interested in Jason’s withdrawal from Worlds primarily as it affected Max. Nothing wrong with that, but I think it’s one reason you may not understand my perspective.
Max, Josh, and Jason are very different people. Max has a total of 65 posts on Instagram. Josh has 33. Jason has over 1,000.
I’m sure there have been many times over the past few years when you’ve wanted to know the status of Josh’s injury. But you know Josh has rarely shared anything with his fans on social media. So it’s really just business as usual with him.
Jason, on the other hand, made a whole video about choosing Hamilton for his short program, and in fact, started a YouTube channel inviting his fans to follow his Olympic journey. How many times has he posted about being so excited to do x or y? He’s also shared difficult stuff this year - his NHK video (I think, or was it Nats?) discussed how disappointed he was. So while I don’t think Jason is “obligated” to share anything, his habit - unlike Josh’s - has been to share quite a bit.
It’s because he has recently been silent about other stuff that I think it’s weird he was in Monument when Kori wasn’t.
All those posts of him staring off into the distance and talking about the journey ahead.
All of those pictures of him in SoCal, some showing him training at other rinks - with no comment (in fact it was guesswork where he was, in contrast to a very clear announcement of his trip with Jordan to NZ).
Radio silence about declining the opportunity to represent the US at Worlds (in contrast to his posts regretting having to withdraw from Nats and NHK).
All of the rumors of him leaving Kori - which he must know about - left unaddressed.
Without those things, no, it’s not weird he was in Monument when Kori was gone. Looked at in light of other things, though, it is, at least for me.
I agree with Katmari that it’s not business as usual and he’s just not ready to share whatever is going on yet. As a fan, though, I still find it a bit frustrating.
ETA Rosa said it much more concisely than I did.
