Jason Brown

Absolute Skating just tweeted a link to an interview with Shingo Nishiyama (the young Japanese skater in the photo with Jason at the Cricket Club) and he had very nice words to say about Jason:

Are there any skaters you’ve watched recently and felt impressed by?

Jason Brown, he is nothing short of excellent! His style is a bit different than mine but if you ask me who moved me the most, I’d name him first. And Misha Ge at Four Continents, it was fantastic!

The interview was done back in February during the Olympics so meeting Jason just a few months later must have been a big thrill for him.

I enjoyed that interview; Shingo sounds like a skater I might enjoy watching. And his smile on ice in the accompanying photos has Jason level wattage;)

Jason in Providence - he looks great here!

He does look good, but boy did I find this post confusing. Brown being another one of spousal unit’s stops on the higher ed trail, that ice says “Dunkin Donuts”, and this rink is not the Brown rink.

But do you think if Jason went to Brown it would get the same thread reaction as Nathan at Yale:biggrin:

Were the shipping and handling charges for Australia horrific?

Surprisingly no! About $9.

The prices are all USD I suspect (it wasn't clear). My card has been charged AUD, so it turned out approximately $31USD to about $40AUD, which sounds right. Ah, I miss the days when the dollar was good.

He does sound like our kind of skater and some one to watch out for in the future.

Here's a 45 second snip of Jason's Can't Stop the Feeling number:

Including ... not 1 ... not 2 ... not 3 ... but 4 split jumps in a row.

We really need a split jump emoticon ... I think this is as close as we get: :hap85: :hap85: :hap85: :hap85:

I found a video of Jason's complete performance to Can't Stop the Feeling on vimeo:

This is such a Jason ex and I love it for that reason!

I heard that Kazuki Tomono also lists Jason and Joshua as two of his favourite skaters. Our Jason is getting old enough that he's now influencing baby skaters! How time flies!

Oh dear heavens. I am verklempt.

Not just for Jason's exhibition, but if you will indulge me.....

Toller has come back:dbana: Back in the day, exhibition skates had encores. Toller's standard encore was four Russian splits, followed by those spins. No music, just splits and spins.

Toller's encore at 73 Worlds

Awwwwwwwww Jason don't do this to me:biggrin:

Dreaded double post to add:

That "Can't Stop the Feeling" exhibition has Rohene Ward written all over it. Splits, the worm, the flop on the ice at the end.... it's like the Greatest Hits of All Jason's Exhibition Moves wrapped into one:)

As Uncle Kurt would say "That is Toller Cranston good!"

It is a bit of a relief to know I am not the only one who makes all the others around her go deaf by screaming her head off while Jason skates :laugh2:
Absolutely love the new number! Especially the Splits x 4 :hap10:

What is so amazing about this clip is that you can feel the relationship between him and the audience. The more they get into it, the more he gives. That kind of connection is really rare, I think.

I also have to say - his stamina is absolutely incredible, especially given he just got back from a trip and it’s unclear where and how much he was training before that. Do you realize that for three minutes he barely stops moving (he did briefly a couple of times), and in that time he does: 3 Lutz, 3 flip, 2 knee slides, a back spiral, a hydroblade, a cartwheel, 2 spins, a flying high kick, his Hamilton high kick, a full split on the ice into a back summersault into the worm, and 4 Russian splits - not to mention he adds beautiful deep edges and flow and a lot of dance moves on his toepicks? Does anyone else work that hard to please an audience? Unbelievable.

Had to stop in and say that I can't stop watching this video. It's so much fun! And the video is really good quality. Also, I just watched the SOI highlights special that I taped over the weekend, and Room Where it Happens is also very good. It's so much fun watching him skate. You're lucky if you're attending one of the shows. El Henry, hope you have someone to lean on while enjoying those Toller splits! :)

Jason's in your state, El Henry.

:agree:

That’s definitely the cafe at IceWorks Aston, where I have purchased a black bean rice bowl to sustain myself though watching 12 hours of skating. (The rice bowls are pretty good, for rink food.) So why didn’t anyone tell *me* he was there:devil:

Just make the 70 mile north trip in time for tomorrow’s show Jason
