Jason Brown

Great post, Mrs.P. I agree with you it’s likely situational and that - much as I was disappointed not to see him at Worlds - he was better off not going. I’m glad you finally got to see the Shibs rise, and I hope we’ll see the same from Jason.

I am quite curious about the interview. He has spent a lot of time reflecting, and talked about this being a turning point and trusting his gut. Does that mean we’ll find out in the interview whether he is, indeed, making a coaching change, and if so, to whom? He sounded very positive about continuing, anyway, which makes me happy.

Must have been really tough for him to make that vlog, but I'm so glad he was open to sharing his thoughts with his fans. He is very resilient, and I think he will continue with his usual sunny, positive outlook. This is one of those situations where he can't look back, he can only look forward. I was in his hometown today and found myself thinking about him! Please Jason, tell us about your coach situation!

(Hi, first time posting on this forum, but I may have been kept tabs on a few threads this past season :) )

I was able to meet Jason after the Detroit Stars on Ice show, and he was so amazing and nice to meet! With him being my favorite skater and the reason I started watching figure skating a few years ago with his Riverdance, I told him how much his skating means to me and how during college watching his skating videos was a guaranteed way to reduce my stress levels. And studying to be a mechanical engineer definitely brought a lot of stress my way. So, I pretty much showered him with praise, and he gave me at least five hugs during the few minutes I got to talk with him. After seeing his newest vlog, it makes sense to me why he looked like he was almost in tears while I was telling how much I appreciate his skating and what he does.

After all that's happened, I am excited to see what this next season will bring.
I can so imagine the scene. This is one of my fav captures of Jason from 5 years ago, at the podium from TEB 2013, shortly before he became world famous. The look on his face, the whole gesture - his entire heart oozing out from his whole being, and he does this with EVERYONE not just with the great Yuzuru Hanyu, even with poor little me! And hasn't changed a bit during the course of his illustrious career. Last September he even came running to hug me when he saw me during Lombardia Trophy :luv17: Even before he is such a special, unique, fantastic skater, he is so incredibly adorable. It is just beyond me that there actually exist people who don't appreciate him
That last video so overwhelmed me, it both broke my heart but at the same time I was so proud of him.
He really needs a big, big :ghug::ghug::ghug: from all of us... and I pray to god for a huge redeeming season come this autumn, he deserves it.

There's something I've been wondering about. Is there an address that we would be able to send letters of encouragement/love/praise/etc to? I'm not sure how often Jason gets fanmail, but I would hope that a sudden increase of it could brighten up his life even just a little bit.

It is still unclear whether he has changed his coach, and/or left his base in Colorado. I am beginning to suspect all the talk about his coaching change was just a hearsay, but it's just my personal impression. But IF he is still there, you can always send letters in care of Colorado Sports Centre/7k Skating Academy in Monument. Another option, it is fairly evident that he reads Tweets and comments regularly. He rarely responds, but I received "like" from him many times. So you can always write something on his profile, or under one of his posts - just that on Twitter you have to be very brief and on point... but you can also use the "Tweet longer" function.

The other person to ask is the woman that runs his Japanese fan club. She probably would know.

One thing I've seen a few of the fan fest folks here do is a coordinated Twitter effort using a certain hashtag. The Josh Farris fans did one in homage to his Give Me Love program (I think on Valentine's Day or something) a few times. The woman from the JP Fan club does that a lot actually.

In other news, has anyone noticed his low-key love for college t-shirts at practices for SOI? In some photos he and Karen Chen posted yesterday, he's wearing a Harvard t-shirt. He wore a Brown one at Providence. And the one I've seen a few times previously is the Medill School of Journalism one from Northwestern, which likely came from that class that did that story on him a few years back. I don't think it means anything, but just a fun thing I observed.

That above mentioned Japanese fan club lady also collects letters before competitions, to give them to him as a collective present. She makes an announcement in advance, but she usually does that only in Japanese so very few people notice.:palmf: The next competition will be still a long way from now, and it is a kind of roundabout method but it is one of the sure-fire ways that he will receive your letter. If I see the announcement next season I will let everyone know here.

^ Yes, that's exactly what I was thinking -- I do recall this collection. I'm always amazed at people like her that have the time and money to go to all these competitions!

I suppose another option, given that we are uncertain of Jason’s training rink right now, could be his agent, Jerry Solomon? I don’t know how many letters Jerry wants to get or would forward, but he’s on Twitter too, so I guess we could ask:biggrin:

And I can get Jason another college shirt if he wants one, along with an “insider’s tour”

More suggestions (for non-electronic communication):

I think that sending something to Jason in care of Jerry Solomon or U.S. Figure Skating would work.
For both, I imagine that forwarding fan mail to Jason (and in the case of USFS, to lots of skaters) would be standard operating procedure?

ETA:

Sorry, did not see el henry's post re Solomon as I was writing my post. Great minds.

In any case, hugs to Jason. :ghug:

:agree: I think Medill alum Christine Brennan recently posted a fun mini-video of Jason wearing the Medill shirt.
ETA: Can't find her shout-out to Jason now. Maybe it was Instagram story. Jason was wearing it well, doing some dance-y stuff. :dance2:

I too enjoy seeing Jason wearing assorted college shirts. :) Have seen other skaters (and non-skaters) do the same (meaning an array from schools that they do not attend).
e.g., Max is fond of wearing U Mich sweatshirts, among others. (U Mich is his father's alma mater.) I think a lot of Evening With Champions cast members like Harvard shirts as mementos. Etc.

... ETA: Also it seems I have to be fans of skaters that go through heart wrenching moments. I will say this -- having been a ShibSibs fan during really dark periods having to endure the "they'll never rise again" comments, it's been amazing to see how they rose above all that and clawed their way back. And the amount of growth and self-confidence I got to see as they learned to be confident in themselves and what they offer to the sport has been so fun. I look forward to seeing that with Jason as well. (And to see whether they can rival the Shibs in the YouTuber blogging. :))

Not diminishing the heart-wrenching moments of Jason or the Shibs at all -- or the absolutely raw emotion in Jason's video.

Seems to me that it almost would be the exception for top skaters not to have heart-wrenching moments?
Max, Mirai, Adam, Knierims, ... to name just a few more U.S. skaters. Not to mention international skaters.

But yes: the possibility of heart-wrenching moments within a skater/couple/pair's journey are part of what we "signed up for" (so to speak) as her/his/their fans. And observing how they "get up" from the toughest moments makes the successful moments all the sweeter.

I know that I will be keeping an eye out for Jason's special jacket. Cool that he will have those words right over his heart.

This is a fun thing to notice. He's been wearing that Brown shirt for years, which is cute, at least one that's like it. Maybe he's actually traded it in for some that are fresher.

Regarding Jason's ankle injury, it seems he did at least one jump in Grand Rapids, as well as the Boys number that he didn't do in Chicago. From tweets, he apparently did not do any jumps last night in Milwaukee. but did do the Boys number. I hope he's just being very careful. I imagine he was well rested for Grand Rapids, but fatigue set in for the next show.

I agree with all of the above -- just wanted to note that I wasn't saying the Shibs or Jason weren't the only skaters to deal with struggle or heart wrenching moments just that my experience being a fan with the Shibs has informed me of the similar feelings I have of where Jason is at the moment and being a person that follows and is a fan of his skating.

Per Meryl's Instagram story, it seem he skipped out on the men's number in St. Paul since he wasn't in the practice session. And it seem everyone was very fatigued prior to this show, so I think it's understandable he took it easy.

I watched Jason's video and that was hard to watch. We're so used to see him so upbeat and happy most of the time, so it was a bit of a shock to see him like that.

At the same time, it was reassuring to know he goes through the same heartbreak and doubts that everyone faces.

I also give him lots of props for showing up to the FOFS breakfast at Nationals (after not making the team) to meet his fans. He could've skipped it and wallowed but instead went to meet the fans and hug everyone. I bet it was therapeutic for him.

I look forward to see what Jason brings to his skating this season. Hope his ankle heals and he finds a new training home soon!

I hope that on my next trip I get the chance to see him again, and this time when he hugs me, I will hug him tight and tell him how much his skating means to me, how much he is absolutely worthy and loved and wonderful. The idea that he ever saw himself that way is breaking my heart.

Now it no longer matters to me, when he knew, why he wouldn't have told Max. He could not have been thinking straight, he was in pieces, I cannot expect that he was focused on anything other than putting himself back together, I'm sorry Jason, I'm sorry.

I saw an archive part of someone's "live" broadcast of SOI from St. Paul and although the video quality was not the greatest because of spotlights, it did look that Jason was not doing the Russian splits. And now the boot. So bummed, but he's such a trooper. I am soooo selfish, thank heavens he wasn't injured for "my" show:drama:

I wonder if he would have gone to DWTS regardless, or absent the injury, continued a barnstorming tour of rinks. I know this is a complete fantasy, but wouldn't Zhenya and her "sunny boy" Jason together at TCC be epic?
