Jason Brown

Wow, Jason must have had a super early morning if he was at a rink jn MN today before flying to L.A., and with the injury and all. Maybe he had this booked to work with the kids before the injury. https://www.instagram.com/p/Biez2xDA3t6/?taken-by=jefftar_on_ice

I wonder if he would have gone to DWTS regardless, or absent the injury, continued a barnstorming tour of rinks. I know this is a complete fantasy, but wouldn't Zhenya and her "sunny boy" Jason together at TCC be epic?

Lots of drama with that one!!! I can't stay away from the thread. And I was surprised that Mirai was just flying out this morning. Thought she would have done that last night. Don't they have dress rehearsals in Monday mornings?

I saw an archive part of someone's "live" broadcast of SOI from St. Paul and although the video quality was not the greatest because of spotlights, it did look that Jason was not doing the Russian splits. And now the boot. So bummed, but he's such a trooper. I am soooo selfish, thank heavens he wasn't injured for "my" show:drama:

I definitely thought of you being able to enjoy Jason's Toller moment at "your" show.

Thanks for the link. Jason seems to be the skater who spends the most time at local rinks with the kids before/after shows so I wouldn't be surprised if it was planned. For those old enough to remember, the lyrics to the Mary Tyler Moore show keep running through my head when I read reactions to Jason's unexpected visits to rinks.

Who can turn the world on with his smile?
Who can take a nothing day, and suddenly make it all seem worthwhile?

I was actually wondering if part of his reason for going to LA was working with Frank, but perhaps that’s not likely if he’s wearing a boot.

That med thread - okay totally OT here but I can’t believe someone of the negative comments. I love her and I’m thrilled with the change. Funny thing is, in some sense her journey reminds me of Jason’s. It will be interesting to see where he finally lands.

I think the thing on his foot is an ankle wrap for extra support to make sure his ankle doesn't move around too much while it's healing, hope he gets a chance to really rest and heal! :)

Double post, but about something different!

Jason's in the audience for DWTS tonight (Nathan and Meryl are too, but they're sitting somewhere else) and you can see him sitting behind Adam at the start of Adam and Jenna's dance and also in DWTS's insta live (@dancingabc)! He looks so excited to be there LOL

My eyes welled up too watching Jason's post-within-a-post but it's a gift to be able to express feelings fully and not repress them. All his joy must have an inverse... As Khalil Gibran said in The Prophet: the deeper sorrow carves into your soul, the more joy it can contain (or words to that effect), so, even tho we don't often see Jason's sadness, no doubt he has his moments. The Good News he is now back on track and he reassures us we will see him in the coming months and Rohene will be choreographing for him. At this point his coaching situation is under speculation and, while I am curious about it, I can live with what we have for now. God Speed Jason!!! :yahoo:

Thanks everyone for the ideas on where to send mail! :thank:

Here's hoping that his injury heals quickly and that he'll remain healthy this season. I also wonder if we'll ever see him compete in a full season of DWTS? He would be perfect for the show!

It still was an interesting article. While he doesn't post any news regarding coaching/training locations, he does make it clear he's looking.

“I’m still in that phase of ‘I’m on the tour and we are having fun’ but, obviously, as this is all going on, I have a lot in the back of my mind of what I want to do, but it is all just an exploration period. Each day, I’m figuring out something new about myself or something new about what I’m looking for … whether it be coaches, whether it be location, whether it be schooling, and whether it be so many different aspects of my life. So I think I’m just taking this period of time, especially through the end of Stars, which ends at the end of May, to really allow myself to figure it out.”

I also find the lack of mentions about Kori in the interview (other than the reference made by FSO) telling too.

The schooling thing is interesting too -- does that mean his decision might be influenced by where he wants to go to school later on? Maybe there's more to those college t-shirts.

Oh, I agree. It did give a lot of insight into Jason's state of mind after Nationals and what he's been doing to get back on track. Some people are looking for answers though and I wanted to give them a heads up. Jason's comment below that he isn't able to share all the reasons for declining worlds at this time is also telling that there is more going on behind the scenes that will be revealed in time.

While Brown says he isn’t able to share all of the reasons for that decision at this time, he did tell Figure Skaters Online that a big component for that decision was his mental state.

I hope Jason's ankle is healed by the time all West coasters (including Mrs. P and family) see him.

If there isn't a photo of Jason at an unidentified rink I suppose Jason at the beach is the next best thing.

Yeah, I thought the schooling mention was interesting as well. Maybe he just wants to continue to work towards a degree part-time as he has been, and wants to make sure there is an option for that wherever he ends up.

I was going to say kudos to Rohene for convincing him to go with that upbeat number for SOI, but at the same time, I wonder if it would have been good for him to work through his emotions with something personal like he wanted. It seems to have worked out very well, though, and I'm sure the SOI crowd loves the decision.

I'm glad Jason had this opportunity to work though his emotions while enjoying performing and being away from the competitive atmosphere. I hope this time away has given him the clarity he needs to move forward in whatever way he deems best.

ETA: Just wanted to say that I really am glad that Jason is at least considering other coaching/training environments. Not that I want him to leave Kori and Colorado necessarily, but it just seems like a healthy thing to do, to consider other options and not just stay someplace because you always have and it's where you're comfortable. It's part of growing up, and if there's any time to do that, it's now. Ultimately, he may decide that his lifelong team really is the best for him, and if he does, that's ok, but at the same time, I feel it would be really hard for him to go back to the Olympic City environment after this past season.

That was a very nice article. Yeah, it’s disappointing not to have an answer on the coaching, but since it’s now clear that he hasn’t reached a final decision, it makes sense. I do appreciate actually hearing that he’s still figuring things out as opposed to wondering what’s going on.

And I agree that even though he didn’t discuss Worlds and Kori, it’s pretty clear that a possible coaching change is on the table, though, as Rosa said, it seems possible he might ultimately decide to return to Kori. Although the parallel isn’t exact, and he likely won’t end up with Orser, I do sense a lot of similarities between his situation and Medvedeva’s. They both seem to be taking charge of their careers. For both, the Olympics - for one not winning gold, for the other, missing the team entirely - was the turning point. Both want to move forward in a new way, and I think both will do so successfully.

It’s been tough being a Jason fan this year, but since it’s been tougher to be Jason, I can’t complain. :). And when I think back to the kid I first became a fan of in 2014, I’m so awed by his growth, not just physically, not just as a skater, but as a person. Whatever happens with his coaching situation, I’m really looking forward to following his journey next year!

Just joining in on the interview chorus:

No, it might not be “here’s where I’m going”, but it is more info than I thought I would get. “I cannot confirm or deny” is in fact confirmation that everything is on the table, including leaving Kori, and that Jason's not just trolling us with the barnstorming tour. If he returns to 7k, it’s not because he was returning all along.

And having given up four years of your life for a goal that didn’t happen, and seeing all your friends graduate college and start new adventures, well a commitment of four more years is a big ask, I get it. Of course it doesn’t stop his fans from asking....

And having seen it, I am so beyond happy that Rohene talked Jason in a show program for SOI. It brings down the house in a way that angst und schmerz does not, even more so than Hamilton. And Jason deserves all the love he can get:hap85:

Agreed that it was smart of Rohene -- and not all his decisions are always great ones, i.e. mustard pants -- to recommend the upbeat program. He needed to have fun and loosen up after a tough season.

I am going to the very last stop on the tour in Portland so I'm hoping he's healed up by then.

Being the last one, I bet it will be great! Looking forward to your report (and if you’re going to the meet n greet) any other insights you can offer!

No meet and greet for me. I balked at the $100 price and it's sold out anyway. And this sounds bad, but I just talked to Jason at Nationals, so it's not like I haven't had a chance this year. (I also got to talk a lot of SOI skaters at FOFS too...so paying $100 wasn't exactly appealing...)

Also I need to save up for Skate America! And maybe GPF and 4CC...

Jason better take it easy this week so he can do those Russian splits by Portland:laugh:
