Jason Brown

I think Orser would be great for Jason and I think he would fit in well at the Cricket Club.

The problem is that Borser does not want to deal with USFS paperwork... but then again... isn't Rohene qualified as a USFS coach? Couldn't he just sit with Jason at Nationals and be Jason's USA coach and Borser be his international coach? Or does paperwork stop even that from being an option.

What kind of paperwork? Maybe it would take a bit of time but I think once it's done he's good to go. If he's training Jason, I'm sure he would be there for all his competitions.

I have no inside information about this, but I think the real question is not whether Brian wants to deal with the headaches associated with coaching a US skater, but whether he thinks he can help Jason be competitive at a World level. He’s the most in demand coach in the world right now, and he just took on Medvedeva. Basically, he’s like Yale - highly, highly, selective. If - rightly or wrongly - he thinks that at 23, Jason may not be able to master a couple of quads, he may not take him on. I think TCC would be an amazingly wonderful place for Jason to train. But to be honest, I think it’s a long shot.

The important thing for Jason now is to 1) stay healthy, and 2) find someone who can help him solidify those jumps while maintaining and improving everything that already makes him so extraordinary. I’m actually glad he’ll have at least one Rohene program next season. Rohene knows what Jason is capable of, will continue to push him, and will provide him with some continuity as he transitions into a new phase of his life.

So DinkyD, do you have actual news or are you with numerous Jason fans on the Brian wish list parade?;)

Brian, in order to attend USFS competitions, would have to qualify as a USFS coach. I believe that qualification is gained through taking classes and a background check, although I have not looked at the requirements myself. For example, Patrice Lauzon was recently honored as PSA coach of the year. My understanding is that he alone was so honored, and also not his colleague Marie-France Dubreuil, because he alone is qualified to attend USFS competitions, and Marie-France is not. I am told that only "Patch" (what an ugly nickname for a beautiful name like Patrice:( ) attended comps like US Nats with Hubbell/Donohue. TBH, I have never watched any vids of Madi and Zach at US Nats, so I don't know if that is true.

And of course Brian Orser is Brian Flipping Orser, who may not feel the need to jump through hoops to qualify to attend US comps. And I can understand that:biggrin:

Well, with Boyang Jin just confirmed as joining Orser's team full time, that pipe dream is probably even less likely now. On to the next one. :)

Agreed. I don’t think it was ever very likely, and had it been true I think we would have gotten news sooner. Hopefully his gut will guide him to the right coach for him.

I was just getting ready to come into the FF to check for the 100th time when a friend told me. Ok, pick me up off the floor please! I am stunned (and happy).

What I love about this is that Brian must think there's potential to improve on the jumps. And I love that it's a major change. So exciting!

Absolutely! He knows Jason's work ethic and his ability to get along with people, which I'm sure is a factor to Brian too.

TSL better not be wrong this time, LOL.

Well it's a good sports week for me. Warriors to NBA Finals, Boyang to Orser and I hope the third thing is true too (seriously, I know TSL is usually right on these things....but I like official confirmation).

Yeah, they better not be wrong. I'm with you on the Warriors! If the Caps can get a win next game, it will be a great week! :)

Also I love the idea of Evgenia and Jason as training mates. I think they have complementary strengths. Same with Boyang. Maybe he'll get a quad lutz, lol.

I've been thinking about the possibility of Jason going to TCC and I think it's the best move for him. Brian and the whole Cricket Club team will be able to help Jason reach the next level. I found it interesting that Jason liked the tweet by IFS Magazine this morning announcing Boyang was going to Orser. Then I read what Brian had to say about Boyang in the facebook post:

"Technically he is very sound, so we will be giving him the direction and the guidance that we gave to Javi. We want to go through the same kind of process with him," Orser said.

It's funny, but I can imagine Brian saying something like this in an announcement about Jason ... "Artistically he is very sound so we will be giving him technical guidance."

Jason and Boyang have different needs and I can envision the TCC team giving each skater the attention required to improve their skating overall and in the specific areas where they need to improve.

@SkatingLesson is on a roll today. I just got confirmation that @jasonbskates is going to work with Brian Orser. Announcement from @USFigureSkating coming soon.

deleted because katmari beat me to it. ;)

I'll confess that I've been thinking this might happen. About 10 days ago, someone tweeted to Jason that she'd heard he might be skating at CC this year. This is someone who recently moved to Toronto from Chicago and does skate some and has a pic of herself on the ice at CC. So even though I thought it was probably just rumor, I couldn't get it out of my head that she may have really heard something and that this could be real. The tweet is here.

Anyway, I'm so happy for Jason and I hope it works out well for him.

I love the idea of Jason, Boyang, Yuzuru, and Evgenia being training mates too. Remembering that at Worlds 2017, Yuzuru praised Jason for his performance ability, I think Jason will bring something to TCC as well as learn a lot.

There is something about Evgenia that reminds me of Jason - I think it’s that she has such a positive outlook on things.

Jumps: Maybe a 4F. Flip is his favorite jump.

I am so looking forward to endless cuteness between Boyang Jason and Hanyu... I suspect they will have a lovely bond and relationship... dare I dream of a trio of side by side quads... or maybe even a 4CC podium sweep.

I also think that this could bode well for Hanyu... he seems to thrive on competition.... with Boyang the Jumper and Jason the Spinner in his backyard... well I am looking forward to seeing what he produces. The three of them are such sweethearts, I think they will all be good for one another.

As much as I hate to say it, Phil Hersh and Dave Lease know things.;)

:agree::agree::agree:

But if we get official confirmation, I am putting on my armor, running to the General Forum and starting a thread, and writing

Everyone (including Dave & Co.) who thought that Brian wouldn't be interested in Jason, that Brian would think Jason was washed up and couldn't improve, that he would never be worthy of the House of Orser:

Eat it, Haterz:dev2::laugh:
