I threw a largish Tigger at Nationals in 2018 and was thrilled to see it at RMH and then in another photo being held by a little boy sitting on his mother's lap. It's a really great thing for Jason to do. I expect that many of the other skaters donate their stuffies as well. I personally knew a family whose child needed extensive surgery to correct damage from terrible burns and they were able to stay in the RMH. It is such a blessing!

This is total conjecture, no evidence at all, but Jason's posts do indicate that he may have stayed in Vegas longer than his usual 1 or 2 days. Perhaps he decided to fly to BC for the weekend to cheer on both Team USA and his training mates at SCI? All of his coaches are there and busy with their training team, so it does make some sense. It's a random thought, but I'm sharing it.

Ronald McDonald House does great work. For any people in the U.S. who attend competitions regularly and like to purchase stuffed animals, my advice is to go the day after Valentine's Day to Walgreen's and Wal Mart. At a certain point, all their stuffed animals that are left over are 70-80% off. As you can see, I had a hard time resisting them -- they were so cute! I was really hoping the TSA wouldn't make me open up my carry on. I had quite a menagerie with me!

Could Jason make the GPF with 2+2? Looking at NHK I think he could get silver if he was clean - I would say Kevin Aymoz is his main competition - they have similar competition scores, and whilst Kevin does have some Quads, his jumps are... chaotic to say the least. Obviously I think Hanyu will get gold but I think he's got a fair shot at coming 2nd, but not sure if the points would stack up enough to guarantee a place?

It depends on how the other guys do, not just at NHK but at other competitions. Even if he medals at NHK, his SA score was not super high, so if tie breakers come into play, that could be an issue. And I think there are quite a few strong competitors at NHK who could challenge for medals there. Jason loves Japan but he has struggled at NHK. So we’ll just have to wait and see.

Ugh. And that was when he should have been home working on his jumps before Nationals in an Olympic year! That GPF assignment was a curse!
Speaking of assignments, when do they come out for Golden Spin? Do you have to be completely out of the running for the GPF to be assigned to GS? I would love for Jason to have another opportunity to compete his programs before Nats, especially since his first Challenger didn't happen.

I have a feeling Jason will enter Golden Spin just in case he doesn't make GPF - entering then WDing at B events are nothing out of ordinary. However...
While I would hate to speak too soon and knock on any wood, I do think he has more than fair chance to make it to Turin, now that Zhou and Kolyada out of GP, and Jin bombing at Skate America and practically out of contention. Aside from Yuzu and Chen, the field is pretty wide open and most of the current contenders tend to be quite erratic - Jason just needs to be put out a solid, clean performance at NHK, and I am quite sure he has a good shot at another podium finish. I would love to see him second and Kevin third, and both at GPF that would be a dream come true

I'm meant to be writing my doctorate application tomorrow, but there's nothing like a procrastination task, so i might sit down and look at numbers and do the maths to see how Jason's chances could stack up for GPF!

Leaving aside the different style and demeanor, it’s pretty striking how much he’s matured and changed in the past 6 years - his bone structure and the contours of his face are really different.

He went from an endearing gawky kid to a handsome man. He looks great! And that SP costume is really good! Jackie Wong called it HOT! Now that's grown up!

So Jason has a little more than 3 weeks until the NHK short program. It would be awesome if he could skate both programs clean or nearly clean, to give himself a shot at the GPF.
He mentioned that in the SP at SA, he had a lot of adrenaline from not having competed since the accident, and that being so eager to get out there and show his programs affected his control. I wonder if he has sometimes had similar problems with NHK, because he loves Japan so much that he wants to do well there really badly. If so, perhaps he can learn from SA. And perhaps his new training environment will help him plan for any unexpected last minute changes that might occur.
In rewatching the FS I noticed his 3S looks really light, easy, and effortless. I hope that bodes well for a 4S whether or not we see it at NHK.
Whether he makes the GPF depends on a lot of things, some of which he can’t control. But if he can skate two clean or nearly clean programs at NHK (even without a 4S) and achieve scores close to what he deserves for them, I think it will be a huge step forward and set him up well for the second half of the season.
