Jason Brown

Thanks so much for uploading the BBC vid!

It inspired me to rewatch the Alvin Ailey Revelations version of Sinnerman again-

The echoes to the Ailey choreography were so clear in this Olympic SP version of Sinnerman!.

Sometimes I feel that Jason is competing in a completely different sport than any of the other skaters, and I hope that some day that sport will actually be a real thing!

Sort of extreme solo ice dance ;)

Doris, couldn't agree with you more. Finally got my computer set up, after moving, just in time to come in here and say how very proud I was of Jason last night. I wanted him to skate clean and end up in the top 10. Job well done!! I also saw a video on Peacock where he addressed how he felt not making the Oly team in 2018. Maybe y'all have seen it but it was my first time. I had NO idea he was going through all that. He always seems so cheerful and upbeat. Made me sad. BUT I'm glad he came out of it.

When I finally came down from Cloud 9 last night and the adrenaline levels settled down, I had the sudden realization that Jason is in exactly the same position he was after the SP in Sochi. The cast of characters is different but Jason is in the same spot. This skate was more memorable for sure, and I hope his ultimate finish is higher than Sochi. His score is significantly higher than Sochi, of course. I think that if he draws last skate this time, he'll be able to handle it very, very well!

I think they now go in reverse order.... Checking. Yes, reverse order of SP finish, so he skates first: https://results.isu.org/results/season2122/owg2022/SEG002.htm

Interview with post skate quotes from Jason:

'Sinnerman' appears in the final section of "Revelations" and Brown executed it with beauty, fluidity, emotion and skill.
He said: He (Rohene Ward) had this vision and I so appreciate that he trusts me to take his vision and bring it to life.
"When you have a choreographer that is so determined to see something through, I think as an athlete you're that much more likely to bring it to life."

They are obsessing again in the practice rink over Hanyu. Not watching others as he has a terrible practice. So sad; but move on please. This drama is ridiculous for the other skaters

It's not just poor Yuzuru, they are obsessing over one skater each practice. There is a practice thread where you can lodge your opinions on this, as I already have :)

The skater that they followed non-stop at Jason's practice was not Jason. ;) Not the targeted skaters' fault.🤷‍♀️

Stop skating nathan we’d like to see Jason .Nathan already skated his FS and knows that they are following him. He is going to get his time in the limelight. Let other people watch the other skaters. The targeted skaters know what is going on. They are not ignorant. Maybe it doesn’t bother you to not see Jason, but it does bother me.

nathan knows that if he stops skating and leaves the ice they will watch others. He is being selfish right now.

that's not fair, I'm sure the cameraperson at practice is the last thing on Nathan's mind right now.

Also, can I say that in Fan Fests, we gush over "our own" skater, we don't complain about others. We keep this a Jason love zone. :)

So in that vein, a positive article, from, wait for it, Phil Hersh:

Where Jason sounds more like he might retire😢

I uploaded the BBC commentary (Robin Cousins) of Jason's SP on another site - find it here. They are very, very complimentary of Jason!! The legendary sinnerman, the programme that skaters around the world will remember for a very long time.
Thanks for sharing this- loved hearing Robin Cousins' comments

Ah ah ah, come now, come now. Nathan doesn't know, and even if he does, it is incredibly selfish of a fan to demand he stop his own practice just so we can get the cameraman to look at someone else! Nathan is still competing tomorrow too and he has a right to practice. It is not Nathan's fault any more than it is Yuzuru's. Don't disgrace us Jasonites by acting like a particular brand of internet fan that are busy disgracing themselves right now.

The Hersh article is a great article and I agree - that doesn't sound promising. But Lynn Rutherford had quotes from the mixed zone that did sound more promising. I don't get the same feeling that I had in 2018 from Max. I don't think he's finished with us yet.

I think they need to add a version of solo ice dance to the Worlds. It should include limited jumps. Jason might well win that competition!

If skiing can have two speed events, downhill and Super G, and two tech events, slalom and giant slalom, why can't skating have a separate extreme solo dance event?

Thanks for linking the Phil Hersh article. Very nice. EXCEPT that it does sound very likely that Jason may retire from competition.
I also recall another article (or fluff piece) where Jason said he HAD a good career. It sounded as if this was it. And I may be putting too much into Tracy's sweet comments to Jason after his SP when she told Jason "it's been a great ride. Thank you." Sort of made me feel like they knew this was the end goal.

I know I should be happy for Jason, whatever he chooses to do, but for some crazy reason it makes me really emotional to think of him leaving competition. I can't see being as invested or interested in any other skaters. And I really think Jason is important to FS. Without him and without doing something about the current scoring, there is no incentive for skaters to improve skating skills and performance when just doing quad jumps will get you on the podiums.

Trying to be happy for Jason .. but sad, too.

Jason will contribute to the sport in so many ways whatever the path he chooses but I think his opportunities are amazing. My hope is that he will work toward promoting the fellowship quality and artistry of skating for all age levels in years to come.. I bet all those quadsters will beat a path to his door seeking to improve their artistic levels..
