Jason Brown

Hi A - agreed. David did a poor job with those programs and I also blame Tracy for not doing anything about it. She had seen many of Jason’s previous performances and had to know that he wasn’t happy with what they were doing. He was too polite and didn’t complain. You could see the look on his face at those competitions and know Jason wasn’t happy. That had to show in practice. He wanted to please his coaches. He never wanted to do S&G and agreed to try it. Big mistake. He didn’t like the music and they should have listened to him. It did waste 2 valuable years of his career. Look at the beautiful exhibition programs Rohene made for him after that.
I don't think the 2 years were wasted. They were working on other things with him and they were giving him time to grow into the skater he wanted to be. S&G was not steller and I agree he never connected to it, but It did allow him to stretch and grow. The partnership between Ro and Jason is kind of legendary. He always had great short programs. But he learned to work with someone else and to deal with less than perfect situations. From the judges perspective, he showed them two distinct skating styles and gradually won them over without a quad. Tracy was there to improve his technique. The goal was Beijing 2022. Despite many obstacles that could have kept that goal from being met, they met that goal. Wilson's programs were less interesting, but they did emphasize character development and I think that was important. Keep in mind, Jason had just come off Inner Love when he got to Toronto. They decided to change his style and they did. I don't think S&G and Slaughter will be remembered much, but Schindler will and that's what counts. Riverdance and Schindler make incredible book ends for the past 9 years.

Nobu Oda going to the wayback machine for July 4 (very nice of him to acknowledge) If Twitter translate is correct, is this photo from 2013 Nebelhorn? Jason was such a baby. (and a young Ashley Cain too)

Of course Jason has his own July 4th photo:

Happy 4th to all American fans 🇺🇲

I believe the move to Toronto helped Jason grow up and start thinking for himself about programs; but I think he would have moved forward faster without S&G and Slaughter. They were not understood worldwide like SL.

Thank God Jason's IG shows him at Riverwalk in downtown Chicago.:pray::pray:

That's all I will say, the rest will be posted in the Speakeasy, as I need to keep to the rules in the Edge.
Oh god, wait, he's not at the parade?! Oh thank goodness, thank goodness.

Jason has removed the happy smiling photo with the "Happy Fourth" from his IG. :( (see my earlier post where it now says "removed or broken". Well, it was there earlier, so it's not broken)

It is still up on Twitter, so I don't know if that was a choice, or not?

el henry, thank you so much for identifying that Jason was in a different part of Chicago. I scroll through my timeline chronologically when I wake up, so I saw the picture of Jason, with his parents, and reference to a parade, and knew he was at home in Highland Park, and thought that was where he was. When I scrolled up to the reports of the shooting, I almost threw up and wanted to cry, I was so scared for him.

How do you do this? How do you live like this? How do you send your kids to school with this fear? I don't even know Jason personally. How can any parent over there bear it, to send their child to school every day?

Here's what he's posted now on both twitter and instagram:
Waking up in Highland Park this morning unable to find the words. This is home. It’s my community. My family. The parade has always been a celebration of unity and pride. Now our stomachs are knotted and our hearts are broken. We are better than this America. When will we learn. When will enough be enough.
He also had a symbol of a broken heart, but when I put it in the post, it blew up to 500% size.

And because we need hope and sunshine: Bringing up again, from whenever it was posted last, this adorable photo of Jason and his bar mitzvah project:

Thank you @Impromptu. Here is what it looks like on IG (forum software does blow up embedded emojis:scratch2:). Karen Chen replayed it in her IG stories:

I'm thankful Jason is safe. I'm beyond mortified at our country. I'm tired and angry about so many things.

A happier Jason thought calling back to some posts from just before the Highland Park shooting - it would make me happy to see Jason go to Nats and win it one more time. Honestly, without Nathan and Vincent, I don't see why he couldn't. Especially if he is skating on his terms.

That family is amazing. What a great thing to do! I had never seen that before.

The entire three hours of Fantasy on Ice in Shizuoka. I have not watched all of it, but Jason is in the first group number (they introduce all the skaters) second with "I Lived" after Elladj Baldé, and at about 1:57 with "Memory".

I do intend to watch at least most of it, although in pieces, if only because the production values are amazing. Also, gotta love the Japanese audiences: Canadian flags for Elladj, American flags for Jason, French flags for Papa/Ciz.

Daniel Grassl tours Chicago .... with Jason as his guide. 🇮🇹🇺🇸

(there was a video of an edge class from a Chicagoland rink with Jason and a skater that sure looked like Daniel, as well as local skaters. Wonder why he is in Chicago🤔)

Daniel (and Matteo Rizzo) have been added to the the cast of THE ICE show in Japan:

cast

Perhaps his visit to Chicago is related to that?

I'm assuming that from the phrase "letting me visit Chicago" Daniel is visiting with Jason and his family. Maybe Daniel is getting choreo from Ro? THE ICE show is going to be fabulous!
