To date, and if everybody skate at their best, he really deserves it.No predictions yet, when I do, I will probably go with my head and not my heart.
But how wonderful would a second Nats title, at this point in his career, be!

Jason has the component score advantage. Ilia has the tech score advantage. Camden is in between. It's hard to predict, frankly. And there is always the dark horse situation, like Ross Miner in 2018. Sometimes an unexpected skater has the skate of their life.

By deserving, I meant with what is really skated, rather than the scores usually got. Jason Brown has really exceptional components, and doesn't often underrotate his jumps, which are quite nice. So, his element score should be lower than Ilya Malinin's, with much lower base value but higher grades of execution (although Ilya Malinin's jumps are by no way awful) but his component score should be much higher.

Jason is capable of winning Nats, but the unknown is that he's only had 3 weeks to prepare. We'll see soon if that was enough. Placement is not his priority, but he's competitive, so he's going to try to skate his very best. I'm certainly rooting for him! I think he's going to have fun and he'll skate the very best that he can. I can't wait to see him!

Sigh - coming here to this thread again for sanity. I can't believe on other threads people are STILL arguing about USFA for sending Jason to the Olympics over Ilia. I mean - as USA #3 he finished SIXTH for heaven's sake. How much more proof do they need that it was the correct choice?
I suspect Ilia with win this Nationals - especially if he stands up - but he's been known to be inconsistent before. And who knows what Jason will do with 3 weeks of prep - but I would LOVE to see him go out with another Nationals title. With the scores now weighted to give skating skills a little more value, who knows...

Jason was aware that "some people" thought he should not have been selected for the Olys.
“I felt like I was constantly having to fight critics and constantly trying to prove myself,” he added. “But once I stepped on the ice, I was like, ‘I’ve worked too hard... let all of that fade away and just do your job.’ I had too much self-respect for my team and what we put in.
“As an experience, it was really hard.”
I say even more now, after his bravura performance at the Olys, "some people" can kick rocks, pound sand and take long walks off of very short piers, to make Jason ever doubt what he has to give the sport.

I think, even apart from the fact that they seem to have gotten on so well ever since way back at Sochi, Jason's style of skating fits in so well with what Yuzuru has spoken about as his vision of what the shows can be. I was not surprised to hear that for the first show with other skaters he was top of the non-Japanese picks (the other would have been Patrick Chan... maybe it'll come).

I don't know if it's possible to compete successfully training part time, but it's not impossible. A positive and focused attitude and more importantly, going out on the ice happy and skating with your heart makes all the difference. I think it's great that he's saying yes to this. It's exciting. His goals are HIS goals. I think that what he's doing is great. I am so looking forward to seeing him skate. Go Jason!!

I'm so excited to see where this takes him. Most ppl didn't think it was possible for a skater to be a full time student and skate at an elite level, but Nathan did it and now others do, too. I don't much care about placement for Jason but I'm super happy to get to see him compete again.

Nathan discovered how much he loved skating when he went away to school. That made all the difference. Jason discovered that he loves competing. He's doing what makes him happy.

If anyone could do it, Jason can.
I am quite ready for the silver medal; we know how USFS is, Ilia will get some stupidly high PCS boost and score over 300 if he's remotely close to clean, and Jason can't do that. I strongly think Jason will beat the others. Quite apart from everything else, there are zero guarantees that someone like Camden will skate well at all. He's a complete lottery ticket, unlike our calm, reliable Jason.
But I will need the support of the Jasonites...if Jason skates near-last in the FS, I will almost certainly miss him skate, as I have an appointment on Monday morning just eight minutes after the men's FS is due to finish.

I know we are all so excited to see Jason in comps
BUT just to stay updated on the king of shows:
Jason will be doing SOI Japan. The only word I can read in Japanese is Jason, and that word is in here.
Cool! Other North American skaters included are Alexa and Brandon, Madison and Evan, and Gilles and Poirier. Appears to be late March - early April?

Jason is in San Jose, on practice ice, and landed a beautiful 3A according to Jackie Wong....
