Jason Brown

Just the best result I could have hoped for, silver at the comp and the king of the audience's hearts. :)

And selection for the World's Team. so that his beloved Japanese fans will see him again. As will we.:cheer:

And more praise from former competitors:

Finally I saw it - none of the illegal streams worked for me this morning and I had to rush to an appointment.

I am breathless. With every year he finds something new. I will swear on my life he never could do a change direction spin before - and now he can. That knee slide into the 3F was insanity. I will wager he'll nail that at Worlds.

From an NBC Sports article about the press conference after yesterday’s men’s FS:

Brown heard the press conference questions Malinin was getting over what went wrong, questions both legitimate and expected, and he wanted his younger teammate not to dwell on them.

“You did a triple Lutz-triple Axel-triple toe at the end of your program, and I did a knee slide and could barely stand up to do the flip,” Brown said to Malinin, sitting next to him at the dais.

The way you keep pushing the sport is incredible. So don’t stop being you.”

Generosity of spirit: for me, this is what shines through Jason's skating and makes him such a joy to watch. When he retires from performing (hopefully not too soon!), I really hope he goes into coaching. I can’t imagine a finer mentor and teacher for young skaters! ❤️❤️❤️

I hope you don't mind @Ross74, thanks for flagging this, I am embedding the photos for those who don't have IG. The second photo of Charlotte and "Uncle J" is just too adorable!

Remember all the naysayers, oh, Jason is just good for shows, if you want to see Jason's skating you should go to shows (fools)

Well Tracy Wilson thinks shows are great preparation for competition ;)

Ironically, Wilson — the 1988 Olympic ice dance bronze medalist with the late Rob McCall, and herself a longtime show skater — thinks the more shows Brown does, the better he gets.

“You learn things when you’re show skating — the experience of playing off the audience, of being dead tired going on the ice, of having not great ice, having a travel day,” Wilson, of Canada, said. “And you know what, suck it up, buttercup; you’ve got to step up and perform. And I think Jason has been able to do that in the shows — explore his limits and discovery untapped potential in himself.”

I did not like when Jason said:
“You did a triple Lutz-triple Axel-triple toe at the end of your program, and I did a knee slide and could barely stand up to do the flip,”
He stood up in an instant and he doesn't have to put himself down like that to emphasize other skater's strength or superiority in a particular area. Jason always felt bad for not having quads with all the criticism and he also felt bad that he took Illia's place at the Olympics according to critics and haters, and, as a Jason fan, over the years, I had a feeling he struggles with something similar to imposter syndrome. All these times when he was above other skaters and got criticized and told to go do shows I think got to him. He deserves every achievement and what he does is the hardest. If not, every top skater would do it, and they don't. Of course, there are a couple who relatively come close, but that's about it.

That really tugs the heart strings! She is special! And so is he!

I don't think he was putting himself down, he was giving a very young guy some support who must have felt really bad at that time. Not that Ilia was, he just felt like that and Jason is generous - and has been there himself. I also think he deserves every achievement (both his SP and FS here were just wonderful) but that doesn't take away from the fact that he's a very kind and empathetic young man as well.

He'll probably start early because he has to go to Japan to rehearse for Notte Stellata, which by all accounts will not be a simple offering and is 10 days before Worlds.
Thank you! And when exactly in February is his other show?
Seems like a tight schedule, but he looks in great shape for competition.
