Jason Brown

Jackie Wong is going to discuss the decision making in an upcoming podcast. Maybe he'll shed some understandable light on this.
I found the podcast, Jackie Wong discusses a few countries and the US section starts at around minute 36. It's still confusing, he shows the skaters and the performance data calculations so far in all of the disciplines.

The top 5 in performance data will go into the selection pool and the Olympic team members will come from that, but they will also look at placements, points and standings and deliberate before picking the teams. We'll have to wait until Nationals to know for sure!

That was my take. We know who's in the pool, but we don't know who will join them and who will swim. The decision will be made at Nats, but it won't be totally determined by Nats. We can guess based on precedents, but nothing is certain. Except, that unless he's injured, Ilia is going to the Olympics!

Jackie Wong posted an interview with Jason on his podcast. It's a pretty detailed review of how Jason gradually reconsidered retiring from competition after Beijing and how the decisions to go the route that he did were made. He also discusses the thought process that led to reviving Riverdance as a short. And Jackie also posted a Youtube video of Jason's Riverdance skate at Denis Ten with Jason's commentary as he watches it. https://www.rockerskating.com/news/...his-career-the-last-four-years-and-riverdance Both can be accessed from the above URL.

Thank you @Bookseller I have taken the liberty of embedding the review of "New Riverdance" and the interview, although the interview is audio only.

Review:

Interesting tidbit about New Riverdance in the review: the cartwheel is excluded for time reasons, not for esthetic reasons, if he has enough time, he will include it.

Interview:

Also in the interview: Riverdance is not a long because skating Uncle Jason is conserving his energy, those moves aren't happening in a long (paraphrasing, the way Jason said it was really cute.

I was hoping that you would post it properly. Thank you! It's a good interview and I love the commentary. I hope Jackie keeps pushing his media coverage. He brings unique knowledge and interest to everything that is really great for those of us who like to dig deeper. The cartwheel exists to be a feature of a spin, which can elevate levels and GOEs. It works in Riverdance, though it's certainly not reminiscent of Irish dancing. But it's joyful and that works. I'm a fan of Jackie, Jackie is a fan of Jason, and good coverage like this is very, very welcome!

I cannot believe that Nats begins really soon! Thank goodness for Peacock and my Ipad because I may be on the road for the early days of Nats. I'll be able to keep up.

Rohene pushed Jason to do Riverdance at 19, because he felt that it wouldn't be feasible later in his career. Turning it into a short makes it feasible. It's a challenge to get the building excitement into a short, but each time he does it, I can see that happening more and more. It's looking more like the original Riverdance but more polished and yes, shorter. But they are clearly working on it to build that momentum. I also loved the part about how a skater he competes against and considers a peer, told him how he crept back into the audience when he was a young skater to see Jason skate Riverdance. And Jason comes to the realization that the skater was 6 years old when that happened.

Jackie is a treasure! I was really impressed by that interview. No dumb questions. Just good questions and good, thoughtful, informative answers. Don't miss the commentary on his first competition this year skating Riverdance. It makes me want to find videos of each of his competition performances and compare them.

That interview really was wonderful and a treasure.

And I am going to take time to tell us how much we should all pat ourselves on the back:love4:: with Jason saying, yes, fans matter, yes, they hear you and your love for the kind of skating I put out there and not just me, but skaters like me. And I am done feeling bad that I didn't medal, what I do is impressive and it counts.

You are so right, and we got you,

I accepted that statement as a personal thank you to all of us who love Jason and his skating and what he brings to the competitive ice. I am a skating fan for one main reason, Jason Brown. I love other skaters too, but Jason is why I'm here. And why I've been here for him since 2014. It was love at first sight and it's endured.

Well folks, as soon as Jason's new merch came out I immediately purchased a navy sweatshirt. On the front it says JUST BE and on the back it has his initials in script. Very good quality and very warm. When I went to my seat after the break last night a woman in my aisle made a comment about what a great shirt I was wearing. Come to find out, we're sitting next to 2 of his aunts and a cousin. She had the shirt in red! Needless to say our aisle was quite loud when Jason skated, He had a huge audience reaction when he came out to skate and a standing O when he finished, Jason is very much loved by the fans an skating community. One interesting thing - and it went to show how many people know and follow Jason - you should have heard the roar when he landed that pesky triple axel! I told one of his aunts how much I loved Jason and his skating and she said "the best part is he's such a nice guy!" 💗

Enterprise is a beautiful arena and many food vendors are open....unlike San Jose and Boston. BUT - the prices are outrageous. A bottle of water $6.00 A dry and lukewarm hot dog - $15. A very small box of popcorn - $9.00. Chicken fingers - $18. And parking in the garage - $30/day.

Needless to say, I am gutted for Jason, and for ourselves. That he had a disaster skate. That we will not see him in Milano
😭😭😭

But we also saw him skate for four years longer than any of us had a right to see him skate, and I choose to remember that. I am not trying to be a Pollyanna, or inhale too much copium. But Jason brings joy to skating, and I am trying to hold that close.

Has the team already been announced? USFS love Jason and I was expecting them to still give him the spot on body of work, along with Ilia, and then the third spot to go to either Torgashew, Hiwatashi or possibly Naumov.
