Please tell me this is where he announces a pivot to ice dance 😭😭😭 Unlikely, I know. And I know he's probably going to retire and he'll still have an amazing show career and whatnot but I wanted him to have one last good competition. But ultimately, he's gotta do what's best for him. And whatever he chooses, he has so much to be proud of.
 
I was surprised that he even agreed to do it. I'm not altogether surprised that he's not doing it, but I'm surprised that he withdrew so close to the event. I've been checking the list every day. He was still on it this morning. Happy for Jacob. I can really take a break from following skating now. I hope this isn't injury based. Whatever reason for this, Jason owes us nothing. He's given skating and his fans so much! He is and will always be my favorite skater. I look forward to seeing what he does from now on. It seems that most of my favorite skaters are stepping away for whatever reasons.
 
i am very, very sad. this close to the event i really thought i’d get to see him skate live one last time 😭 i was grateful i got to see him in milan and chat briefly with him but i really wanted to see him on ice. i know he won’t have made this decision lightly and will have done what’s best for him… i just hope we get some indication he’s doing ok
 
Well, as sad as I am remembering the young man that gave me a big hug on more than one occasion, it's time! I think Jason has been fortunate in the last several years that others mistakes and his amaaaaaaaaaaazing performances have enabled him to medal. I think he's a dying breed but he contributed so much to the sport and I honestly think in some ways he revolutionized men's figure skating. IMO it was getting out of hand with ALL the emphasis on jumps. Jason came along and made us all aware that figure skating can be athletic and beautiful at the same time. But having sat through way too many junior men in this last Nationals, you HAVE to have a quad or two to be in the conversation. Jacob Sanchez is sort of the heir apparent to Jason but he needs to get that jump. Having said that, it's not enough anymore to just have the jump. You need the presentation to get ahead. I wish Jason luck and many thanks on a wonderful career that gave us all so much pleasure. In spite of everything he remained his happy sweet self and kept skating from his heart to our hearts. There will never be another Jason Brown. As much as we all appreciate Rohene Ward and Tracy Wilson and even Brian Orser, we also have to give major props to Kori Ade for developing Jason and letting him go when it was time.

I always secretly fantasized of Jason teaming up with Satoko Miyahara. They could represent the United Skating Fandom.

It's 2018 minus the black hearts. So I think he's feeling positive, but he's thinking everything through. He made the decision to pass on World's. Good decision, I feel. And he mused on that for quite a few weeks. He's scheduled for an extended period with SOI. That's coming up. But he's got to make a lot of decisions. His life is set up in Toronto, training at Cricket. Decision #1, does he stay in Toronto? If not, where does he go and when? Does he look for shows for the rest of the year? Does he take some serious time off and travel? Does he take some serious time off and hang out in Chicago for a few months? Does he consider continuing to compete on any level? Does he announce his retirement, or stay mute about that? It's not required. Nathan never announced retirement. He just did it. What opportunities are being presented to him? Will he coach? If yes, where? Does he want to advocate with USFS and the ISU for rule changes? The list could be endless. So far, he's made one decision public, not going to World's. But focus on that word Leap. He's considering major changes, which makes so much sense. 4 years ago, deciding to just compete at Nats and see what happens, made sense. He was 28, he was in superb shape, and he had no pressure on him. And he excelled. Things are different now. So what was a big toe in the water 4 years ago, is likely to be a big jump over the pond at age 32 with the past 4 years behind him. I don't think he's injured. But I think he doesn't feel in competition shape now, so what does that leap look like? Is it a leap of faith? Or is it a calculated leap into the next phase of his life? I kind of think it's the latter. I'm glad that he was willing to at least say that. He's not hiding, he's exploring, but not ready to make decisions yet.

Jason has said before that he'd like to go spend more extensive time in Japan. I'd be all for he and Yuzu collaborating on a show! And then I'll be saving up money to go and see it.

It's probably my neurodivergent need to analyze and figure out what people mean, but "still being written" to me says he may not quite be done with competition yet. But what would that look like? One last redemption Nats? One last season? Pivot to solo dance? Or partnered dance?

Or probably the accurate option: "I'm not saying the R word just yet because I haven't totally decided and I don't want that to be the major story clouding worlds."

I think it means that he's still figuring things out. He made one decision, to withdraw from World's. There are a lot of other decisions to be made, ideas considered and goals examined. Jason does like to take his time making important decisions. I think he views this time as positive. I certainly hope so!
