Maybe Jason's pants will get their own twitter handle and hang out with Trankov's pants just like Jason's ponytail and Charlie's curls.

Reportedly there is going to be a tighter crackdown on what costumes cover (or don't), this season - maybe at Champs Camp he was told to put a flesh panel there. I'm fairly sure Max's Carmen had the flesh panel added later in the season. It wouldn't be unusual.
It looks to me like he had it at US Classic, He certainly had it at Skate America but yes he had one, and I am still not a fan. Though if he was told it was an issue, on that costume I can see how there were limited options. Jason's really could just have a higher V, it would not be hard to do (heck the black part may not even be final, you can see a bit of white peaking out on his shoulder that I suspect will not be visible in the final version) and I do think the high V would be better than the faux one. Unless there is a cultural/historical reason relating to the music for it (in which case it should be allowed!) I don't really like the faux modesty. It does not make the outfit sexier, or more attractive to me, or even more modest, it just feels. . . well like they should have made the costume differently in the first place more or less. It feels more deceptive/misleading than modest. If the powers that be want to crack down, fine, I can deal with that, but I just don't know how much I feel like adding skin colored really has a point. They should push the costumes to not need the flesh colored in my opinion.
It does have positives, the light colored pants are a nice touch as was pointed out above. I actually do like the design. I just think without the panel or a higher V, would both be better options than the flesh panel. Meh, not the end of the world, it does at least appear to be well matched to his skin. . . can't even find the top of it. Id rather him have the flesh panel than get hurt on points in the end, and doubt I will notice that much. Still. . . slightly disappointing I guess.
You are assuming that faux modesty is behind the design? It could easily be there for practical reasons, for example, so that it doesn't move or fall open awkwardly every time he jumps or moves his arms. Maybe they don't want to raise the neckline for design reasons.

Interesting. I had assumed that the faux flesh panel on his Riverdance costume was his preference-- don't know
why, only it took me a few minutes of squinting to figure out that wasn't his chest I was seeing. I don't know too
much about the other men skaters.
According to the official USFS rules, "The clothing must be modest, dignified, and appropriate for athletic competitions...
The clothing must not give the effect of excessive nudity inappropriate for the discipline. The majority of the upper body
must be covered."
It seems rather vague and perhaps a bit subjective? One's person's "modest" may be another's "outlandish."
Also, when it said the majority of the upper body must be covered, I was assuming that was meant more for the women
skaters than the men (for obvious reasons!).
Here are a couple of male skaters who appear to be showing flesh and not a flesh panel:

Again, interesting!
Chiming in with my two cents' worth...
I had assumed that the faux flesh panel on his Riverdance costume was his preference... just because. (???)

I'd prefer to see a higher-cut costume than a low-cut one with a flesh panel. Or, if it doesn't matter, then let's
see the chest. (But only a bit-- please, not all the way to the navel!!)

Again, interesting!
Thx, alabhaois; of course I had to look at all the photos. To my very untrained eye, the French do not appear to be wearing the flesh panel, but going au naturel (of course). I am not a fan of the V look, I didn't particularly like it in Riverdance either. I love Machida's orange turtleneck number, and found that far "sexier" (although sexy is a term I'm just not going to feel for 19 year olds, no matter how athletic) than the V neck. YMMV.
Did his Riverdance one have a pannel?
There was a clip I saw on here that I cannot remember where of an interview with a judge who took off under the old system for an immodest costume. The costumes was a guy in a white unitard. Not sure how it was "immodest" but it sure did look like a terrible idea. . . like a floating head on the white ice.
*coughs* If that clip shows the front of the costume, you will know why. It is for the same reason that men are not permitted to wear tights. A rule which I am quite certain that Max is going to fall foul of one of these days.
It's news to me that there was a flesh panel in Jason's Riverdance costume. I'm not about to object to any sort of man-cleavage.![]()
This was back in the 6.0 era, so the footage as not great. I did not squint there. Not sure it was that tight, nor that white shows any more off than black. I may go through my youtube history and find it. . .
Max. . . is wearing tights by my definition of tights. Maybe their definition only includes slightly translucent things, or only things with feet attached. He certainly clearly has a preference for that style. Then again he keeps pretty much everything else pretty tame and modest, maybe they accept it as a compromise. He could just be doing it for comfort.
