Javier Fernandez

The whole posting

Mussique, thanks so much for all that info and the links!!! I´m glad that he has gotten attention, although many photos were from previous programs , but one enjoys seeing any photo of him. The main thing is that they write now about a figure skater....

So good that his first competition is over and there is more than a whole month to prepare for Cup of China. I think that propably in GPF or at least in Europeans he will be almost ready for the Olympics and freeskate will be really familiar to him. I loved it already now, but it will feel different later as it did with Guys and Dolls.

The musical involves Cervantes himself as one of the heroes of the play fighting for freedom of expression and telling the story in a prison. In this version, DQ dies in the end, but Cervantes is released with his novel manuscript (which everyone knows will be published in the end). https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Man_of_La_Mancha

The storyline is easy enough to understand in the program, the only question was the beginning before the announcement of DQ. In discussions elsewhere, we agreed that it is probably DQ before he turns himself into a knight (or Cervantes himself), but sort of before the knight story starts. The Dulcinea part is explained by the lyrics and the lift to an inspriring end with the Impossible Dream comes also from the lyrics. I would expect they will adjust details before Japan Open and maybe again before GP series starts. Like the level 2 step stequence (the last time he had level 2 steps in the FS was in the spring of 2010)...

I wish I had more time for this already now...

Does anyone know his new SP music is only from "Modern Times" or anything else?
Yes, they are from the original sound track of Modern Times 1936, which are Main Title, Charlie's Dance, The Gamin, and the Closing Title( Smile). The only track his old FS also used was Smile, but a different recording. It is very smart of David Wilson to use the OST, the dusts and scratches of which gives the sound a physical, nostalgic feel that really cements the audience into the moment, as said by Javier in his Golden skate interview, the feel for a black and white silent film.

I love Javi's Man of La Mancha FP. The Chaplin program is great too. Cannot wait to see both on Olympic ice!

Whole message

Thanks!!!

News from Orser about both Hanyu & Javi:

Hanyu, Fernández carve different paths to Olympics
Tension mounting between training partners as Winter Games approach

I think it's amazing they could train together and maintain a cordial relationship being competitors for so long. It shows sportsmanship from both of them. I understand they have got some tension around as Olympic approaches, and it kinda saddens me :P But they seemed ok at the Autumn International, so... I suppose that the fact that they have different goals helps, but... Come on'... gold for Javi :luv17:

Off topic, why does Orser keep calling Boyang "the Chinese boy". Its kinda rude.

Would Chinese kid sound better then? Anyway, maybe he had a senior moment and just could not recall the name. That happens to everyone now and then, LOL.

Mussique, thanks so much for the link!!! What a great article! I think that both Javier and Yuzuru have a very nice sportmanship, but everyone has tensions now and then, especially guys who are preparing for the Olympics. And Javi for his last one....

Why would Chinese kid sound better? You're making no sense.

What a season is Javi having right now! The GP series hasn't even started yet and he's managed to beat 3 of the 'big 6' already! Congrats Javi on winning the LP here and helping Team Europe win!

Nice job Javi! I love his FS this season and it made a stronger impact on me here than at Canada. It's charming, heroic and certainly quixotic
He needs a better ending pose though.

Yeah I don't think Javi could have asked for a better and more confidence boosting start of the season, even if everybody is still operating on early season low fuel. I'm so happy to see that the Helsinki FS disaster didn't affect him in any bad way whatsoever, quite the contrary in fact.

And I love love LOVE Javi's La Mancha program. It's full of small details that define the story and the character. That spear move in the choreo sequence is pure gold. And that's just one example. An arm outstretched here, head lifted there, in a very specific way that evokes Don Quijote. Then the way he changes pace at the start of the Dulcinea sequence, not just in speed, but in the performance as well, is amazing. It's such a wonderfully intimate sequence. Nothing like Javi has ever done before. And I'm absolutely in love with the step sequence. One of the best things David Wilson has ever created. Once again choreographed not only to the music, but to the lyrics as well, and Javi already does it with such passion and assuredness. I can't wait to see it develop through the season!

But I agree, the ending pose must go. :noshake:

So great that Team Europe won and Javi was the best of the men!!! I felt that Javi interpreted the program wonderfully and the choreography is fantastic to the nuances of the music, WOW. And the program will feel still better and better as the season goes on and he becomes totally ready with it. The same was with Guys and Dolls.

The ending pose is not the best, but maybe there is not enough time to something more notable?

Anyway, his freeskate music is really catching, after watching the program the music (Dulcinea) stays in my head for the rest of the day..., LOL.

I am in love with Javi's free skate in the Japan Open...it brings back the musical interpretation of Kurt Browning and Brian Orser...it just made me happy and mellow watching it...kudos also to David Wilson....the choreography is amazing....I'm just floating on cloud nine. This is why I love men's skating these days...they don't just do jumps...they dance on ice....
