Javier Fernandez

Brian, listen to us please!

I like this idea!

Doesn't seem like many people enjoyed the new ex...but I did. Some pretty intricate footwork for a gala, and I love the old-school vibe...he sells it really well. And those arms in that wifebeater? What's not to like? :o:

Sharing this link (https://www.tumblr.com/video_file/114924348877/tumblr_nlz08oLYU81rxq1qs/480) posted by ranran in the Yuzuru thread. Yuzuru in tears in the arms of Javier, who tenderly comforts his Cricket brother.
reposting some more from the Yuzu thread because I know nobody else will ever find it there ;)

EDIT: The full interview that showed that touching scene and some snippet of cricket bros fooling around
He said he regretted his performance and that he had mixed feelings, regret and happiness for Javier. But 7/8 he felt regret and kept crying. Javier tried to comfort him, but Yuzu kept crying while repeating "I'm not crying, I'm not crying". Javi told him "I won this time but in my heart YOU will always be the champion". Then Yuzu told himself again "Oh, what a nice person Javier is". (laugh)

He was, if you look at older pics you see it too. ^^

That's very likely, and it was a good idea from them. ;) I wonder when the rest will come out. Maybe for WTT?

they said "Every Tuesday a new “What’s in my bag” or “A moment with” video will be posted on the ISU Skating YouTube Channel. " and " A new “Wait...What!!!” video will be released every Friday on the ISU Skating YouTube Channel." , they made an exception for this week by posting new video everyday

Ah ok, thanks for the reply! :) I'm looking foward to seeing more of them.

I just found an article from a Spanish newspaper about Javier's win! It's a whole page and, considering how small skating still is in Spain, well it's a pretty big deal. I can't take a picture of it since the words get kind of blurry in the photo but here's a translation (or an attempt of it anyway):

JAVIER FERNANDEZ WORLD CHAMPION

The Madrid native beats the favorite Hanyu and becomes the first Spanish to win this competition.

It's an image that makes the sport grow. The Japanese Yuzuru Hanyu, Olympic champion and defending World champion, had just performed a FS below his usual level. He knows the difference of 2.5 points that he had over Javier Fernandez, his friend and training partner, can banish if the Spanish kept the performance level of the previous day. Completely exhausted, he still has some breath left to shout "Go Javi!". A howl to cheer for the one who can take the title from him in Shanghai. It's the breath that precedes Javier Fernandez' (Madrid, 23 y/o) jump into the throne, who, since yesterday, is the first World champion in the history of Spanish figure skating. With a 4th place at the Olympics in Sochi (2014), two bronze medal at previous Worlds (2013 and 2014) and three consecutive golds at the Europeans (2013, 2014 and 2015) on his repertoir, he climbed on top of the world yesterday.

Two rivals, two antagonists on the ice, but two friends and partners 12 hours a week under Brain Orser, in Toronto. The canadian coach saw yesterday how three of his students ended in the top 5 of the world -Canadian Nam Nguyen was 5th-. "It's not normal. It's usually more evened out. It's something Brian is very proud of.", Fernandez assured, who started working with Orser in 2011.

During the celebration, Fernandez and Hanyu posed for the cameras with their coach, and hung their medals on him. It was the picture of success of a team that overwhelmingly dominates the skating world. "It's quite common to have other skaters training with you, but it's not always like it is with Hanyu, who is my greatest rival", Fernandez admitted.

"We learn from each other", he said about the Japanese. The triangle is completed by Brian Orser. The former skater, 1987 World Champion and Olympic silver medalist in 1984 and 1988, as known how to manage his talented students exceptionally. "He's a very neutral coach, he's got a lot of skaters and he works with every single one with the same effort. Although a skater can get farther away than other, he wants everyone to reach their 100%". Yesterday, the Canadian succumbed to his pupil. "He told me that nobody deserved it more than me. I've seen his face and he almost started to cry", said the World champion.

Yesterday's event was the most important victory for Spanish skating. "Worlds are the top of the top. The same skaters that compete here, go to the Olympics later on". The Olympic medal is the only one the Spanish is missing to complete his repertoir.

This gold is a reward to the Spanish' consistency. He wasn't the best on neither the SP or the FS -ended up second in both-, but he was the best at the competition. On Friday, he dazzled to the rhythm of Ram Jam's Black Betty, where he had almost no mistakes. And yesterday, he got into his Figaro role one last time to touch the glory. He got 273.90 points overall, against the Japanese's 271.98. "Beating Hanyu is incredible. I don't know if it's ever going to happen again. I still need time to believe it", the Madrid native said after his achievement. Denis Ten, the Kazakhstan native of Korean ascendance, completed the podium after being the best in the FS.

Hanyu did something out of the ordinary for him yesterday: having the mistakes of a human being. He fell on a quadruple and turned the other one into a double. He didn't fire on until the end of the program, where he tuned to the music of Phantom of the Opera, causing the roar of the audience, for whom he was always the favorite. A rain of plushies and flowers fell onto the ice.

After the rink was cleared, Fernandez went in, conscious of what was at stake. "I was scared", he admitted. He nailed the first quadruple and went down on the second, but didn't make any other mistake. The Spanish is among the few skaters that dare to incorporate three quads in a single performance. The result was 93.10 on technicals and 89.06 in components. He first screamed, placed his hands on his head and opened his eyes as if he didn't want to miss anything he was living.

With this victory, Fernandez takes a brilliant season to a close: a silver at the GPF in Barcelona, Europeans and Worlds. He will now set course for Japan to prepare for an exhibition and will began working on the next season in august, where he will be able to compete before his audience again as Barcelona has been chosen to host the GPF again. The Madrid native hopes that this triumph skating starts receiving more attention and that the cities finally resolve to to create more ice rinks. However, he rules out the possibility of going back to Spain as a skater. "If a go to Spain, I'll have to take my whole team. I'd love to but it's not viable."

thanks a lot xibsuarz, its great article i love this part: "He told me that nobody deserved it more than me. I've seen his face and he almost started to cry", said the World champion." he really did deserve the title, hopefully next season will be as good as this one for him :cheer:

Awww, Javi and Brian.

It's incredible how much Javi accomplished since his first Worlds. Coming from a country with no figure skating traditions, hard work, never giving up, constant growth and now he's on the top of the world, despite not being a maverick right from the start. It gives me warm fuzzies. Super Javi!

I agree. When I read that Brian's comment that Javier has been working hard, treating Worlds as a "business," I had a feeling Javier's ready to take the next step. Everything's coming together now for Javier personally and professionally. Happy for him. :)

Javier, the man with a heart of an angel  The TCC is going to be the end of me :drama:

Oh and I found this phone interview as well XD Has some things that we've heard of already, but there are a couple of new details. It's an 8 min interview so the translation is quite long, sorry about that. The translation is not 100% accurate since they (specially Javier) use a lot of colloquial language that doesn't have an english translation, I tried to make those parts as understandable as possible:
J: Hi, good evening.
C1: Well, starting today, Mr. Javier Fernandez. We stand up to greet you.
J: (Laughs) Thank you very much.
C1: Congratulations, we really want to congratulate you.
J: Thank you so much.
C1: Javier Fernandez, World Champion. How does it sound?
J: It sound weird to me, I still haven't grasped the feeling yet, and I don't know how long it will take for me to grasp it.
C1: We were keeping an eye out for you. Our partner Paloma Villareal (the lady that always comments when you watch figure skating videos with Spanish commentators) follows figure skating and follows you. And she told us "Javier Fernandez is going for gold this weekend. He's going for the podium, there's no way around it. And he must be careful if he can't get the gold." And after the SP she told us "Tomorrow morning, keep a keen eye on Javier Fernandez", and she nailed it.
J: (laughs) Well, yeah, I don't even have the words. These things happen and you don't expect them. It's true that we've been training up to 100% to get here but when you really have to compete, you have to fight for that medal against such good skaters, specially the Japanese who is the Olympic Champion, things get more complicated. I think that, with such difficult conditions and achieving this, it leaves you with an even better taste in your mouth, so to say.
C1: You keep surprising us in every championship, you keep giving us joy after joy. Do you surprise yourself sometimes?
J: Yeah, sometimes I do. Sometimes I think "How did I get here? At which moment did I join this sport? Because of who and how". I surprise myself but at the same time I feel happy for everything I've achieved and been through.
C1: You're only 23.
J: (Laughs) Yeah, that's true. And well, in maybe 3 or 4 years I will kind of start feeling down, so to speak, so I'm trying to be up to 100% to get everything we can from this sports in these last years for our country.
C1: When you saw you're scores, I think I saw you were very moved.
J: I didn't know I was first because the screen at the rink showed the FS score where I was 2nd but was 1st in the overall score. But up until they showed that part, I didn't know, the had just shown the FS score. My coach was beside me and I told him "Well second, it's good, I keep it." But when I came up first, I couldn't believe it.
C1: You keep it even more! Right?
J: Exactly I just, I didn't know what to do. I just couldn't believe it. (He started stuttering a lot) I don't know, I'm speechless.
C2: Let's explain, Javi, that in Figure skating, the SP and FS scores are added. And although you were second in the FS with the addition of the SP you overcame Yuzuru Hanyu and that face you had, I think I almost saw you crying. There was a moment where I think you were holding back the tears because I think you didn't...
C1: Well first he threw his hand to his head as if saying "My God, what did I just do?".
C2: Because I don't think you ever visualized yourself as capable of beating Yuzuru Hanyu.
J: Exactly, I pictured him, so to say, as invincible. I know nobody is invincible but it's what I thought. And yeah it's true, when I saw my scores I didn't know whether to cry, scream, drop to the floor, kick, I didn't know what to do. And I'm not much of a crying person so I held back a little, otherwise I would have cried the Nile River there.
C1: I was watching the competition and Paloma texted me saying "JAVI WORLD CHAMPION" and I just told her I was already watching it. What did Yuzuru tell you?
J: What did he tell me? Well, he went up to me and cried more than I did, and imagine my face. I asked him "Why are you crying?".
C2: (Laughs)
J: And he told me "Because I'm very happy, because you've deserved it, because you've been working hard". But I don't know, I was like, "Ehm, poor kid, don't cry on me." Right? "I should be the one crying instead of you." but yeah, that's what he told me in general.
C1: You two get along quite well right?
J: Yeah we get along very well, we share a lot of hours, we've know each other for a while now and we share a lot of time together. And training at the same rink, under the same coach and at the same time, it's best to have a friend than an enemy. And thanks to this sport we are all friends.
C1: It's easier to win over an enemy than over a friend, right? At the end of the day it can even cause you a bit of sadness, to beat a friend.
J:I don't know if it's easier or not, but maybe beating an enemy leaves you with a better feeling (Laughs). But in general, beating Yuzuru at this competition is something I did not expect.
C1: How do you think the celebration is going to be? Have you planned anything? Have they told you anything?
J: I don't know, I think so but they've been kind of keeping it a secret. They've told me I have to go down to a living room because Santa Claus is coming.
C1/C2: (Laughs)
J: I'm not sure exactly what that's supposed to mean. I'll know when I get there.
C1: Well now's almost April so I wouldn't believe it that much. In January, it could be, but now that it's almost April, I don't think so
J: Neither do I. But as I've been living in Canada, it's still very cold there so maybe they brought him from Canada.
C1: Yeah, of course. Are you staying in Shanghai for a few more days or not?
J: I part for Tokio on Monday, I have to be there for 4-5 days. Then I'll go to Canada and then I'll go to Spain.
C1: So today's Saturday, basically no time. It's just a couple of days for sightseeing, I assume.
J: Tomorrow's the exhibition gala.
C1: Your exhibition is very important (Javier mumbled something but I can't hear over the commentator).
J: (Laughs)
C1: You don't care much about it, do you?
J: I know what you're thinking about.
C1: I'm not thinking about anything! It's you!
J: The Super Javi program, I don't know if I'll ever be able to do it again.
C2: Come on, Javi. You're World Champion, now this is something special
J: That's why Super Javi doesn't exist anymore, now I have to be a spy or something.
C1/C2: (Laughs)
C1: Well, we wanted to have this space to congratulate the Figure Skating World Champion that keeps surprising us event after event ever since you broke through and started achieving thing for the Spanish Skating. Today you've touched the sky which is getting the World Title. Congratulations and enjoy it.
J: Thank you very much and thanks for...for...for calling.
C1: You're welcome and hopefully we will keep calling you because it means you will still be enjoying and achieving so many titles.
J: I hope so too, thank you
The rest is just goodbyes.

Ok that was long XD

Anytime, it's still difficult to find articles in Spanish related to Javier, but this one was quite nice. Yeah, Brian was moved, maybe because of how much he sees of himself in Javier. With Patrick's comeback next season, I'm so excited to see the triple rivalry between Javier, Yuzuru and Patrick, hopefully it will be an exciting season.

And Denis! Denis made pronouncements about adding another quad to his programs!

Omg, a FP with a mix Queen songs would be a really bomb. I can imagine it perfectly. Javier and Queen music...great combination.
Brian, listen to us please!

I would be happy just with Bohemian Rhapsody!

Really someone needs to do this now that lyrics are allowed, Javi would be perfect!
