Javier Fernandez

The major problem I think is that he has to have someone signing for him for rent and phone and banks etc.

But that would be the same fror Hanyu, wouldn't it? And, if I understood the article correctly, it seems that Fernandez will have to stay away from Toronto from May to September, and Orser will come to Spain at the end of August to coach him, because of Javier's visa situation. Even with this arrangement, wouldn't taking such a long break from training with Orser and other specialists Fernandez normally works with in Toronto be a problem?

It's not because of visa problems that Brian is going to Spain, Javier will have an event and Brian will accompany him. From what I understood he doesn't have problems with the visa, is just a lot of paperwork. He is staying away from Canada because of the activities he has in Japan and Spain, not because of the visa. He doesn't need to stay away from Canada 3 months, he just needs to get out every 3 months, he returns with a renewed paper work and can stay for another 3 months. I don't think he would have agreed to such a tight schedule if he thought he would sacrifice a significant amount of training time, he knows what competition he's facing next year, he won't take it lightly.
And I assume, if the Japanese need visa too, that Yuzuru has the same issues (that are really not issues just immigration protocols), but I think he spends more time outside of Canada than Javier, so he doesn't have to leave every 3 months because I don't think he's staying for over 3 months at a time Right now. Though of course, we don't know what kind of visa Yuzuru has.

Thank you for clarifying the situation! It's good to know that Orser is planning to go to Spain not because of any visa problems for Fernandez. Somehow I thought that skaters don't take such a long time-off from training these days, but if it's by design, then, of course, there's nothing to worry about. Orser and Fernandez will certainly know how much time he needs to prepare for the next season.

You're welcome :agree: Yeah, I think so much time off training is new to him too. But in the ice network interview Brian said that he has learned to trust Javier and Yuzuru and that their programs will be ready in time, as much as it worries him sometimes. Hopefully he will so we'll have an exciting competition next season!

Tonight, there was this gala exhibition in Valdemoro (which is kind of like Spain's winter sports' city) and Javi performed there. Some pictures have already been uploaded to IG :)

His EX costume (caption says it was a fun performance)
Signing autographs
Performing w/ his sister Laura
More Torero Javi
Final Number I assume

I wonder if he'll alternate this EX with the one he choreographed w/ Kurt Browning, the one he did at Worlds and WTT
Edit: The video of the program. Not a great quality but it's been the only one so far

And another interview, says a lot of things that he's said before, how skating needs to grow in Spain, how he has improved from training there, to moving with Nikolai and then with Brian. Something new that he's said is that he's also considering moving to another country that's not Canada or Spain once he becomes a coach, but he doesn't know yet (I assume it could be Japan?). And a little something on his relationship with Miki:

"When I’m not in Spain, I’m in Toronto and she lives in Japan so it’s a long distance. But we’re doing well, we’re very happy, we’ve been together for a short time, hopefully we’ll be together forever (aww), but we never know what might happen. But we trust that everything will be alright, we try to meet as often as we can and we have a friendship and mutual understanding which is very important, she knows what I’m going through as she’s a two-time World Champion and she knows I’m very busy sometimes, so she doesn’t pressure me if I don’t write her or call her, she knows the reason. And that’s also important, if we’re very busy or focused on something else, we don’t have another pressure."

IIRC, they've been together since November...that's 7 months already, they're going strong

Thank you for the update and links. It seems Javier's ending "Black Betty" pose is becoming iconic! And his "suit of lights" exhibition costume certainly outblings any of Yuzuru's costumes. ;) That picture with Laura made me wonder what if they had become ice dance partners, but then we would have been deprived of seeing his awesome quads.

I am looking forward to seeing that Torero exhibition and hope it is as fun as or even more so than Ricky Dornbush's. :)

Thank you for the video link. What a fun exhibition program by Javier! :)

I was yesterday in Invernia Valdemoro seeing Javi skating, but I could just see the perofrmance with his sister, it was magical. In addition, Javi's parents and grandparents went there to see him.

This is the link to the video, I know it is not the Best Quality, but it is something at least:

Laura is so graceful and matches her WC brother well. What a moment for them to skate together not only before their compatriots but also before their parents and grandparents.

Thank you for sharing.

Wow, for a non-pairs skater, he did a pretty good job lifting his sister. I really hope we can see him do something with Miki now. Thank you for the videos!

And I didn't even mind that he did Carmen...if anyone can pull it off, it's him. And he looked soooo good in that costume.

Hope you enjoy them!:cheer::popcorn:

Thanks for the picture links! I like the contrast between the flamboyant matador costume Javier wears for his solo exhibition and the simple plain attire he wears for his performance with his sister Laura who appears to be of comparable height. ;) I also agree with the poster at FS Universe who noted Javer's improved edges in his Torero exhibition.

thanks for updates! i think Javier should try not too classical but slower pieces, after watching this performance and his bruno mars ex i think he can pull it off and it would be a nice change :cheer:

Oh Gosh, it was briliant! So light and emotional. And I am wondering if Javi tried some ice dancing in the past, because the lifts are great!

I also think he could definietly try to skate to slower music. I belive he would pull it off briliantly when given the right programs.

I don't know how much of this is true but apparently my friend said Javi is being criticized for this costume: https://fbcdn-sphotos-e-a.akamaihd...._=1439735067_e2e1c291d20dc2029744aba6ead662e7

As they're against the bull fight so this costume become sensitive?

I am not surprised. Some people feel kinda against the whole killing the bull part of bull fighting.

Why they can't find away to do bull fights that are entertaining, scarey and don't kill the bull. . . i don't know. Honestly, a Spaniard doing a bull fight number might be the number i choose to go grab a beer for. I would be happy to help him legally defend his right to do it, but would not feel like i was missing much if i grabbed a beer during that number.
