Javier Fernandez

I am not surprised. Some people feel kinda against the whole killing the bull part of bull fighting.
Why they can't find away to do bull fights that are entertaining, scarey and don't kill the bull. . . i don't know. Honestly, a Spaniard doing a bull fight number might be the number i choose to go grab a beer for. I would be happy to help him legally defend his right to do it, but would not feel like i was missing much if i grabbed a beer during that number.
Yeah, they say the toreador ex makes it seems like Javi is supporting bull fighting and some activists are not enjoying it.

I don't know how much of this is true but apparently my friend said Javi is being criticized for this costume: https://fbcdn-sphotos-e-a.akamaihd...._=1439735067_e2e1c291d20dc2029744aba6ead662e7

As they're against the bull fight so this costume become sensitive?

Is there an article or something? So far the only thing I've come across are comments on his FB page, and they're a minority who are (mostly) being relatively polite about their inconformity. It's just a cultural representation, he's not killing any animal (and I hate bullfights to the core). But well, I guess it was to be expected :sarcasm: everyone's entitled to their own opinion and a public figure can never please everybody.

Man, people will get offended about anything these days. I don't support bullfighting, but hello, it's a costume and a performance. I did not see any live bull on the ice...then they might have a case. Why don't they use their valuable time to campaign against the real thing, instead of complaining on Javi's FB about something so petty and ridiculous?

Javi said in the past that he is against corrida because he is against the suffering and the killing of the toro.
Does he mimick the killing? because there are some sorts of corridas where you just avoid the toro and not kill him. So i don't think the costume itself is a problem.

* of the bull soz

I did not say i was offended. I said I would get a beer during that performance rather than one that makes me less uncomfortable. You have to pick one performance to get drink during.

Sorry, I hadn't even seen your comment when I posted. I was talking about the people who criticized him on his FB.

But I wonder if you felt uncomfortable during Richard Dornbush's toreador ex (if you saw it), or is it just because Javi is Spanish that he is supposed to stay away from it?

I think the stuffed animal helps to add to the parody factor.

Basically I don't find politics entertaining. So anything that even hints at politics, and yes for Javi bull fighting fits that, i find less entertaining than something non-political. If another skater was skating an exhibition to draw attention to the plight of bla bla bla, i likely would get a beer during that over Javi regardless of the cause. So for me you get a beer during the most political number, which bull fighting often may qualify for. And even though I like Dornbush, if I had to pick, I might pick his for the same reason if there was no one else I was ok with skipping. If his was the most political, his would likely be the beer run unless there was something i flat out wanted to avoid.

Javi said in the past that he is against corrida because he is against the suffering and the killing of the toro.

Glad to know that.

I think Javier's performance, like Richard's, is obviously a spoof or parody of the real thing. And I don't think to spoof or parody something is the same as supporting the latter; in fact it may very well be the opposite.

I have just found a better quality video of Javi and Laura's performance

He handles the softer music much better than I expected. Maybe we'll see an SP like that next year? (He also wouldn't have made a bad ice dancer.)

I guess the ice dance SDs must've been unwatchable for those people then...?

I guess that some people just may be finding or even looking for a reason to set against something in lots of matters. Javier´s humorous Toreador programme on ice definetetely should not be one of them :laugh2:.

About Javier´s programmes, I think that he would be great in expressing slow melodical music or even certain type of classical music (Liebestraume comes in to my mind here).

So, I don't know if this has been discussed on the thread and I missed it (or have forgotten it), but... What are the chances that Javi and Miki will do a number together on Fantasy on Ice? I'd love to see that, and with both of them there, it would be a sad opportunity to miss - but, of course, I don't know how long they have to prepare original numbers for the skaters, so how feasible it might be. Thoughts?

A duo needs preparation and except if it has been planned for months, with schedule planned during the preparation of the shows (just like Johnny did during AOI last year with Zhang Hao), I'd say it's close to no chance of happening. Javi was in Spain the whole time so he had time to prepare a sweet number with his sister, but this time it's different.
Imho, the only chance of maybe seeing it happening would be during the last shows on FaOI. They'd have had the time to prepare a little something if they can book ice time during next month, and if the organizers of the shows agreed.

actually i think its possible , it doesnt need to be super complicated and long program, similar to the one Akiko and Dai's tango (dont know how long they worked on it though), him and miki have been active so it will be easier for them to learn choreo, and even SBS jumps would make auidinece go crazy

Akiko and Daisuke had been quite active until that point too, and Akiko still is - it seems that she is becoming a great professional skater. Plus, I think both of them are artistically more talented skaters than Javier and Miki (not that I think they are as weak in that area as quite a lot of other skating fans seem to think - especially about Miki), and things like learning choreography might be easier for them than for the latter two. Still, I also think that a simpler program would be possible, and that would be really great.
