Javier Fernandez

Well, he said in a recent interview that he would really like to perform Grease or an Elvis-inspired program ;)

A big part of music cut of Charlie Chaplin program is is "slow" but delightful, and Javi's Chaplin is the most adorable, with which he had won Euro Champion & Worlds Bronze Medal.

In my personal opinion, Peter Gunn is the program Javi did not make it his own completely but he tried his best. The music cut is sort of overwhelming, I was not a fan of his both sp & lp for 14' Olympic season, let alone the poor costuming. The entire package was so old-school & unsophisticated :noshake: I know Javi gets along with DW so well, but he needs to bring in fresh ideas, the addition of JB would serve him the best. DW took Sandra Bezic's brilliant idea to come up a bond girl for Yuna Kim's Olympic grogram.

I think that Guys and Dolls was a masterpiece, it suited Fernandez perfectly and it suited the audience and the judges. DW is a wonderful choreographer and I think Fernandez should definetely keep him at least for the freeskate. Of course if somebody from the team comes up with some great idea or suggestion, that would be wonderful, too. Besides, Fernandez could have his own ideas, like posted above (Grease, Elvis)... What about Pulp Fiction???

Javi's Olympic season SP wasn't so bad except the hideous costume. His FP was borderline terrible though, and especially underwhelming right after the Chaplin program. Otherwise David Wilson has done wonders for Javi though. Cases in point: Guys and Dolls and Danny Boy. I think it was good for Javi though to go with someone else for his SP this season. Keep it fresh. Especially seeing what a masterpiece Najarro's choreography turned out to be. Proves that if the music requires it, Javi will go to someone else. I'm not sure though that Jeffrey Buttle would be a good fit for Javi's style.

Elvis? Well fine I guess, but Grease? God no! :noshake:

Wonderful!!! And they land it at the same time....

Thanks for the link!

I saw this CSOI Halifax show review link posted by seabm7 on FSUniverse:

http://www.localxpress.ca/news/2016/4/30/skaters-showcase-love-of-the-sport-at-stars-on-ice

Fernandez excerpts:

With a combined 30 world championship medals among the 12-member cast, including reigning world titleists Javier Fernandez and pairs skaters Meagan Duhamel and Eric Radford, along with fan favourites Patrick Chan and Elvis Stojko, both three-time world champs, it was not surprising that is was one of the strongest Stars on Ice shows in recent memory.

Fernandez, a six-time Spanish national champion making his debut with the tour, radiated star quality as he reprised this season’s charming long program to Sinatra’s Luck Be A Lady, and in an emotional skate to John McDermott singing Danny Boy.

I was going through some old interviews and I came across this video with Brian and Javi after his win at Skate Canada in 2012:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bgPTKAqBQCY

Javi's English seems to have improved a lot since 2012, but even in this video it's lovely to see his personality and his humor. They were talking about his progress that season and about noticing something different in him and he was asked "where are you right now?", to which he replied "I am in Heaven right now. I'm up there."
Then Brian also joked about how it was exciting for the Spanish Federation to have their "very long national anthem" play. (It was Spain's first GP gold medal ever.)

Thanks for the interview! Yes, Javier´s English has improved a lot since those days, but even then it was really fluent. He has such a wonderful outgoing personality and that´s why he is a natural showman on ice.

He is already a legend, there has never been a Spanish skater achieving so much in results, well most of the other skating federations would love to have such an accomplished skater in their team.

Javi is known being a "star" in post-competition press conferences. I think what makes him special is that he always speaks from the heart.

I was so pleased to see that Javi can redeemp himself in this competition by putting out two strong performance, PB for SP and SB for FS. It was funny that he wore his FS constume only at the begining, then put on a goose down coat and minutes later he changed to a warm up jacket. Whoever was taking care of Javi is so thoughtful and considerate :agree:

EDIT: I post Javi's 16 worlds' fs Fuji tv version on youtube
