Congratulations Javi for 5 EC win 
but I want to ask I saw him do a jump with a hand down several times and I thought it was like a fall but it's not punishment much , what is the punishment for hand down?

Based on my very broken Spanish this article suggests they think it's just heavy bruising, right? That was an absolutely horrendous fall! It happened in the other side of the arena from where I was sitting, but I thought for a second he wouldn't even get up. It sort of killed the performance afterward, but I couldn't care less. So well done for Javi to get through the 2nd half of his program the way he did! His movement afterward looked so pained, and when I saw he had to ask Kovtun to help him off the podium I was worried. But congrats on the 5th title! A legend indeed!

It is funny how 190+ points seems like a slight disappointment? But I take the 5th championship with a healthy point margin despite all.
The official press is available on the ISU FB page. The fall was unexpected and that's probably why he hit the ice so hard... limped on the right side afterwards and had an icepack over his b-t during the press. After the victory ceremony he ran to hug his family and gave the flowers to his Mom <3
Waiting for the small medal ceremony to begin!

hwell:Such a continuous cycle of maintaining his body and making sure he is ready for the big events. True for all of the athletes obviously. The sport has become so incredibly demanding. Glad that he will have time to hopefully recover well before Worlds.
That was a horrible fall, OMG, but it as amazing how quickly he got up and continued with the program and skated the rest well enough to win the title again... 5th win of a Spanish skater at Europeans!!! Congratulations Javi!!!

Hopefully, the injury isn't too serious - he has some time to recover before Worlds. Rest and heal Javier! :yes:

Congratulations to Javi on the 5th consecutive Europeans title! What an incredible achievement!

Javi´s achievements are really awesome: If we don´t go as far back as 1930:ies in history, he is the second skater to have won 5 consecutive European titles. Ondrej Nepela was the first and he came from Czechoslovakia.

So... It seems like I won't be able to make my interview today... 
Javier is in an important event that was made specially to celebrate his fifth european title, so his manager is not answering me. I really hope they let me change the date if I can't do it today; it's a really important part of my grade, but also I was so excited. I put a lot of thought into the interview...
I understand that he has to be busy and overwhelmed, but I'm just sad that I saved the date last week with his manager and now I'm unable to do anything. All the spanish press seems to have noticed him today. He is even going to a "famous" program on Wednesday, so I'm afraid I'm not as important as the well-known media, since I'm a journalism student.

By the way, to those interested, in the interviews he's doing today, he has said that the fall make him hit a bone (the femur), but he's fine. He just needs rest and a lot of ibuprofen and ice. He also has said that if he wins the Olympics next year, he might think about retiring of the competitions. He says that he feels that is not the same and every time, the people he is competing against is younger and younger, so he might just retire while he's at the top. :sad21:

Sorry to hear that Mizar. I hope you will eventually get a chance to do interview. I expect for him to retire not because he wants to leave competetive skating while still beng on top, but because it's a tiring life. And he's in serious relationship with Miki. He might want to finally spend more time with her. Well, we'll see, maybe he'll skate competetively year or two more after Olympics. I doubt he would go for another whole cycle.

Sorry to hear about the interview, Mizar. I hope they will be able to reschedule it for you. I expect it might be quite a challenge to navigate Javi's schedule, given how little time he spends in Spain, so there must be tons of obligations towards the media and sponsors.
Hopefully he will have enough time to properly attend to his bruises though and nurse himself back to health.
I fully expect Javi to retire after next season. :sad46: If he wins the Olympics, I think he will actually retire the moment he steps off the podium. If he doesn't win, he might go to Worlds in Milan, but I have strong doubts about him continuing beyond. The only thing that could potentially change that is if the ISU gives Euros 2020 to Spain, in which case he might want to stick around to retire on home ice. Next season will be his 12th competitive season on the senior circuit, which is a lot, and I don't see him hanging around just for the fun of competitions if the men's field does surpass him at some point. He has Miki, plus he is interested in propelling his skating success into developing the sport in Spain through coaching, skating schools, shows etc. It won't be as difficult for him to find motivation elsewhere.
