Javier Fernandez

Hi everyone! I've been looking for a no commentary version of Javier's Helsinki SP and I haven't found it, does anyone know if there is one out there? Or another no commentary video of his Malaguena SP were he was great at another event? I figured this would be the place to ask

Greetings from Moscow! Eppen, evergreen and I have spent an entire day sightseeing, enjoying the city beautifully lit up for Christmas, and wondering how Russians can sit through open air skating performances of Swan Lake in January! We will head back to the Red square in the morning to see this skating football thing, and will be rooting for Javi to be spared any injury... It should be quite warm, only -3°C or so... Hopefully his body has adjusted to worse, after the recent weather in Canada.

Well thankfully there was zero risk of injury in Javi walking around the ice in street shoes and standing on a carpet as goalkeeper for a group of skaters who were trying rather hopelessly to play football. :) And after that a very long photo session where Javi was making some funny faces which we couldn't make sense of from the other side of the rink. Turns out he was imitating Christiano Ronaldo! :) https://twitter.com/LaLiga4Sports/status/952847056233787393 Too funny!!! :) Plushenko didn't come out to the ice but was there somewhere indoors to do some press.

Javi session #2 of the day completed: afternoon practice on the main rink, soon after we made it out to the arena from Red square. The motto we were repeating was "Who are you and what have you done with Javier Fernandez?" We have never seen Javi attempt so many quads in a single practice session. There must have been at least 8 of the sal and 6-7 of the toes. Not all of them successful by any means. There were a few pops on the 4S and a fall on the 4T. But he kept going on and on with the attempts this time, not his usual thing of moving on after a couple of relatively successful tries. Even more unusual that he was still going at them after the runthrough even though he was last in the music rotation. He looked quite tired towards the end. It seemed like he wanted to make up for the morning session he missed because of the LaLiga football thing. But he was also a little all over the place in between the jumps, tripping slightly or losing his balance a few times. Yet he was relaxed throughout, even dancing along to Bychenko's music, smiling a lot. And then bizarrely he found some small piece of his more and more worn boot hanging off or something which he was trying to tear off. He was laughing even about that too. Brian wasn't there by the way, so Javi was on his own, just a couple of federation people standing by the boards to watch over his tissue box. Brian must be either still on his way from Vancouver or knocked out in his hotel room after the travel.

As is clearly readable from tureis's reports, Moscow has been quite good so far! January weather makes no one happy, of course, but it could also be -30 C. The rink is not one of my favourites so far, but we'll see how it feels like with bigger crowds. We made it infinitely prettier by hanging our two very elegant Javi banners 😀 (tureis not only has a way with the words, but also a keen artistic eye!).

Seeing him on ice for two hours in one day was a treat - even if the first hour he was wearing shoes. He was truly earning his sponsorship monies on the Red Square.

It was also unusual to see him do the short in the first practice - so far it has been the free in most of the first practice I've ever seen. Tomorrow we will see him in one practice session, as only the ones in the main rink are open for public. Hope to have Brian back and am curious to see, if it will be business as usual then?!😉 We are also quite pleased that 5/7 men's practices are in the main rink.

Tureis, eppen, I can't thank you enough for your superb reports :luv17: I hope you're having a great time...
What a weird practice session!!! I hope it doesn't throw him off-balance... What's he thinking, attempting 10+ quads??? :drama:

Day 2 of practice sessions is over. Brian was there already so it was more of a business as usual session for Javi. No more going wild on the quads, structure and discipline returning under Brian's watchful eyes. Javi did his FS this time. He was first in the music rotation so he only had 6 minutes before his music was on. He got through all of his jumps except the quads in the usual order beautifully, starting with the 3Lo, 3Lz, 3F-1Lo-3S and a glorious 3A-2T with one arm behind his back on the 2nd half of the combo. Then it was time for his runthrough and he just marked all of his quads but went for all the other jumps. He stumbled out of his first 3A but everything else was perfect. Afterwards Brian gave Javi some comments about the 3A combo and made him redo it, turning out beautifully again. Then it was time for the quads, and again both the 4T and the 4S+3T were gorgeous on the first attempt. Then Javi went on to do a few more 4S attempts and fell on the first and popped two more. After some more consultation with Brian it worked well again. Javi took the last few minutes to work on his SP step sequence, and finally some edge exercises, which were really interesting to see as Brian explained what steps he wanted Javi to do and then Javi glided through them beautifully. Has Brian been told I wonder that Javi had issues tripping all over the place yesterday? :p He left a couple of minutes early but was still signing autographs when the following practice group was done with warmup and started their runthroughs. The Spanish federation woman had to come and usher him away. Mens SP tomorrow!!!! :eeking:

Thank you plushyfan!! He seems to be having a great time for sure!

Well, another 100+ SP for him this season!! That's great!! I'm crossing my fingers very hard for the LP on Friday, that I won't be able to watch in the live streaming sadly. All the best for him and hoping to hear your marvelous reports on Moscow, eppen, tureis.

It was a long day today at Megasport... The practice went well, better than yesterday except for the runthrough jumps which were all a bit wonky. He looked quietly confident at the end, but not too much. David Baden (IMG, javi's agent) sat almost in front of us and also his parents were there (been here all week). Brian looked pleased and relaxed afterwards.

It seemed like an eternity before the final group came on ice. I had hoped that Kolyada would do well to get Javi to train his stress levels after his main rival does good and he knows he has to deliver. But that did not happen obviously 😐 The program was great again despite the minor mistake on the sal - still a bit amazed about the level 3 steps (the all female panel was strict!). The crowd loved it despite the disappointment with Kolyada. Overall we were very pleased with the top 3 - Aliev and Vasiljevs are among favourites.

Happiness is a 100+ short program just when you need it!

We will miss his practice tomorrow (turns out it might have been possible to go to the practice rink after all), as it is at the same time as ladies SP last group.

I sincerely hope for a good free on Friday, the last one was at Rostelecom Cup 2016... And the world needs to see the Man of La Mancha at its full glory!!
