Thanks for the report, Eppen! Maybe it does not matter so much if Kolyada skates well in the freeskate, as Javi does not have his turn immediately after Kolyada? Javi does not need to listen to Kolyada´s scores, I´d think as there are several skaters = 3 between them. Besides Javi has a nice cushion of 20 points. I´d also think that the 3 Russians might be really nervous as they are competing for the two Olympic spots.

I meant in the short, of course. 😊 Kolyada skated directly before Javi and had he done well, it would have caused extra pressure on Javi which has often been bad for his performances. Practice in that could have been beneficial! Some skaters actually covers their ears not to hear the scores, but i've never seen Javi do that.

Today was a shockingly Javiless day. Tureis saw him at the door watching the ladies last group, but as it was after the start of his practice group, this remains a bit uncertain (Montoya? - the person wore the Spanish team jacket).

I remember him saying that the arena also affects that. If the warm up area is too close he listens to everything regardless of the order (as it happened in Helsinki). Fast forwarding to next month I wonder if the rink in Pyeongchang is the same, though I don't recall any skaters talking about it in 4 CC so I hope it's not the case :)
 
In Helsinki they apparently heard it all...

Here the warm up area is behind the stands and the doors actually keep the sounds of the arena out quite well. But Javi was waiting to get on the ice for the final warm-up when Kolyada did his bows and the audience reaction would have been enough to tell him that Kolyada had not done good.

The previous times he has taken the ice after someone else's (=Hanyu) massive scores, it has not been good...

I am not worried at all for him. It seems like he knows the real challenge is not here, so hopefully this will put his mind at ease and won’t be nervous (so we can follow :laugh: Am I being too naive?

Morning FS practice completed, and most importantly, JAVI HAS A NEW COSTUME!!! The jacket is gone, the top is now a cream color shirt with loose sleeves, high collar and simple dark laces at the opening just below the neck. The shirt material has a very slightly shiny look, it's lightly pleated and has a beautiful flowing quality to it. The black pants now have a black belt from the same material, with buttons at the front and laces at the back with some gold metal cover at the ends. It's a simple and very elegant look, classic and romantic. We agreed he looks younger in this.

Practice has gone fine otherwise. We had a minor heart attack because he wasn't on the ice for the beginning, he arrived with Brian a few minutes late. But then again, he was 5th in the music rotation, so plenty of time to go through everything before his turn to do the runthrough. The jumps were mostly gorgeous both in warmup and during the runthrough, except the 3A, which he popped or stepped out of a few times, but he also hit a couple of nice ones. Ugh, we'll see how they go in competition... The quads were especially wonderful though, every single one of them.

Yes, I understood that, but as the freeskate has been Javi´s big problem this season, I´m glad there are 3 skaters between them....

That second 4S has become a point of concern. And he looked out of air by the end. Hope the cardio training is up to speed.

I am still holding out hope for a dream finish at the Olys.

Yes, you are right. Today, we can celebrate but, tomorrow, not so much. Still a lot to do if he wants that olympic medall.
Personally, I really don't care for the Olys, he is my champion, whatever he does but, I think he needs it and, in fairness, he deserves one.

So gracious to see two amazing performances by Javier in Euro2018! From his Instagram, it looks like he's really happy in love, which probably helps him maintain a good spirit coming to the Olympics! Just a lot of love and luck to him! :love:
