OMG!! If this is true I will be SO HAPPY!!

So I just did this on the last few minutes in congrats to my favorite skater. It's not the first fanart I do of him, but I'm never happy about them... I'm not happy about this one either (I never make him as handsome as he is, I fear, and I accidentally made him have a black eye!! Sorry Javi!! Ink can be quite troublesome!) but it's just a small homage :)
I give myself points for trying— kind of like the Wax Museum's Figure

Besides a few little stumbles, a great skate! Now to skate 100% clean with that extra 10% passion in South Korea and voila, a podium place 😃🥇🥈🥉

Congratulations to Javi on his title. I liked his other FS costume but like the simplicity of the new one even better and realized the other costume was a bit distracting. Best of luck at the Olympics.

Wrong thread, but I loved Javi today!! Best performance of that free to date. He's skating beautifully

Congratulation to Don QuixJavi on his 6th European Nationals title! Much luck to him and Patrick to get near or on that Olympic podium!

I'm so gladdddd he got rid of the maroon cuffed sleeved costume for his free. He looks much more elegant now!!!! Both of these season's programs I adore so much!!!!! I don't want to see him or Patrick leave the sport!

BTW...maybe this has been asked before, but does anyone know if Javi's book was ever translated into English? Or a translation somewhere?

Congrats to Javi on his 6th European Title! Class of the field today! Love his new simpler costume. I to am glad he got rid of that maroon costume.

What an incredible evening it was here in Moscow! I personally couldn't wait for the short dance to be over. Even though we were all really happy for Sarah and Kyrill doing so well and coming in 7th. I have to say we must be honorary Spaniards by now, which funnily enough none of us are, but we have been waving the Spanish flag and screaming quite loudly for the entire Spanish team. I'm not sure what the Russians sitting all around us are making of us, this crazy Spanish trio speaking in English.

But finally the men's competition and the last group came and warmup was somewhat mixed from Javi. 3Lo, 3F combo, 3A, 4T all exceptional, slightly wonky landing on the 4S and no combo, but popped the 3Lz twice. The first one due to traffic but the second his own mistake. He was visibly frustrated after the 2nd try. But it has been Javi's most consistent jump this season, so we weren't too concerned. He also started to touch his knee after the awkward landing, which we haven't seen all week. Please let that knee hang in there for just two more months...

I have to say I loved how the audience went along with Javi's FS immediately, clapping enthusiastically with the music, cheering his jumps. It was clear he is loved in Russia even if he is there to win over their guys. And all those Spanish flags! From Spanish, from international fans like us, and from Russians as well. He really was the star of the evening and the atmosphere felt electric and full of anticipation after a long series of lackluster performances and very few highlights.

And what a start it was! With the quads and then finally hitting that first 3A, even if there was a wobble at the end of the combo. His arm behind his back on that 2T is so fabulous and perfect for the knight theme! And then the Dulcinea part, where this new romantic shirt flowing gloriously around his body and arms truly comes alive. I'm so glad they changed to this shirt. Javi is a beautiful sight in it, the way he performs this program, with gentle moves and such lightness and flow to everything he does. There were the mistakes of course, the pop on the 4S and the botched 3F, but they finally didn't bring down the program in any way because he pulled off everything else like nothing happened. And that glorious 3Lo! It beats me how that isn't a +3 across the board when he hits that jump. I have never seen a jump more perfectly and seamlessly integrated into the choreography. I was especially happy for the 2nd 3A. That jump has been his nemesis in the FS this season and hit both of them here. And great recovery on doing the 3Lz as the combo, especially after missing it in warmup. Brian was hitting the boards and yelling like crazy as Javi skated past him into the step sequence. I just wish he could maintain more energy for the end to add more speed to the spins.

Overall it was a massive improvement and his best performance this season without a doubt. But of course we all know just as Javi does that he will need to do better. I do wonder whether that's the reason he has been so subdued and serious at all the medal ceremonies, in Grenoble, at Spanish nationals and even here too, or simply there's always that inescapable thought that these are the last times he stands on these podiums accepting these medals.

We went down to ice level for the medal ceremony and Javi was standing right in front of us while waiting to take the ice. He spent the entire time fixing the pleats of his sleeves so they all align the same way. It was so funny and cute! He must really be a neat freak. Afterwards as he got off the ice to go backstage, he was caught by Tat who spoke with Javi for quite a bit, not just a simple contratulatory greeting, and then gave him a hug and big kisses on the cheeks. I hope Tat praised him to heavens the way only she can.

Because of course he deserves it! European champion 6th time in a row! What an incredible achievement! Javi truly has made history. There is a reason no one has been able to do it for over 80(!!!) years. The combination of superiority, consistency and physical endurance he has shown is really unprecedented. I am so glad I got to see him accomplish this live! :luv17::sad4::hap10:

So happy for Javi but a bit sad if he does retire after this season. Europeans would be a huge letdown next year without him. I personally would love to see him skate until 2020 so I can have a chance of seeing him skate.

tureis thank you so much for your reports!! You too, eppen. I'm so glad you got to enjoy the competition and report it here!!
It makes me so happy to see Plushy cheering on him! Javi really looks up to him :)

So I'm still very happy for the Euro win, of course. But the small mention to the possibility of a next season was even better! I found the source, and he's such a sweetie!!
I guess he really feels good about his performance!

Javi! European Skating Legend!

ETA: He might do two seasons more? That's wonderful news! Keep on going Javi!

Yesterday was wonderful, indeed! I have been truly privileged to have gotten to witness European Championships 3, 4, 5 and 6!!

This year my feeling coming to Moscow was of delighted expectation and at the same time, slight concern. What is his condition? How have the Russians advanced since nationals in December? I guess I should have trusted Javi's ability and confidence 😉

His good practices are hopefully beginning to turn into good competition performances. The free was quite fine apart from the fumbles in the second part. The third quad is still giving him problems, but thankfully the axels were friendly last night!! The program seems to be physically harder than Elvis ever was - or even Guys and Dolls. He was pretty spent at the end, but recovered quite quickly (unlike in Jaca!).

The new costume is very, very nice (but hey, Javi could wear a sack and look dashing!). We got a good look at it before the medal ceremony, the material of the trousers is slightly shiny, but looks quality fabric, slightly thicker. The details of the waistline are perfect. The shirt is great - the colour just like from a Renaissance/Baroque painting, the design is still referring to the right time period. It creases easily though and it will annoy him a little bit for the rest of the season 😁 We watched the skate on video afterwards and when he goes for the second axel you can hear the shirt flapping!

He was so serious before and during the medal ceremony - it is obvious that despite what he keeps saying to the press the possible/probable lasts are getting to him at least after the competitions...

My feelings this morning were more melancholy than happy. It will be hard to imagine figure skating without Javi... But there are plenty of things to do and heroic deeds to fulfill before his career is at its end!!

12 Europeans, 6 consecutive golds, 1 and only Javier Fernández (and 152 quadruple jumps in international competitions!!!). Long live El Rey!

Saturday's Javi event: the small medal ceremony! Luckily the stage is located just outside our sector so as soon as Papadakis and Cizeron hit their final pose in their free dance we bolted for the door. We were first in front of the stage which was roped off wall to wall for the crowd to leave some space around. We had 40 minutes to wait before the medal ceremony actually began and the crowd got large very fast but we were able to keep our front row center positions with just some difficulty.

The ceremony itself was the usual. Small medals presented by the officials, another set of watches handed out (which by the way I have no idea how many Javi owns by now or what he does with them ), followed by questions. The moderator kicked off by asking Javi to say some things about the support he got not just from Spanish but Russian fans as well, which he did, and earned a big applause.

We had our strategy for getting to ask a question from Javi, no matter the size of the crowd. I had my huge Spanish flag around my neck, in the hope that when the moderator turned to the audience for a question for Javi, he would pick me from the people raising their hands. And it worked! The guy walked straight up to me and handed over the microphone. Obviously he expected me to be Spanish so it was a fun surprise to everyone that I wasn't.

We also had our strategy for what to say. So before I asked eppen's question, first I congratulated Javi on the 6th title, and added that I would also like to congratulate him on being the first to reach 150 quads in competition at this event. Eppen has double and triple checked Javi's protocols, looked up every single skater's stats who might be anywhere near Javi to be sure, and we decided it was time to reveal this to the man himself. He may be behind the quadsters in jump content but he does have the most quads performed in history. Javi's jaw dropped in surprise and once the moderator translated this to Russian, a huge cheer erupted from the crowd.

Then I asked eppen's question. Now that he has been doing some coaching as well in summer camps and such, what has he learnt that can help him in his own competitive career? He gave this a thought while the moderator translated the question, then answered, but, Javi being ever polite, not before thanking me for mentioning the quad statistic. As for the question, he said he can learn a lot by watching young skaters because if he sees a mistake from them that he also does, it helps him focus on correcting it.

Afterwards he was also asked about what was the secret to his success, but I just can't remember what he said. Something about working hard and not giving up I think. Later on when all three were asked about their favorite element, Javi said his favorite jump can change from season to season, but because he has been focusing so much on the choreography and the performance, those are his favorite elements now. This received a big cheer of approval from us. :agree:

Then after a brief photo session they approached the crowd for autographs and that's when things got really uncomfortable for us in the front row of course, people 4 rows back trying to reach over everyone else to get their stuff signed. In the process Javi got to have a rockstar moment because a few meters away from us some overenthusiastic people started pushing in on him. The security people had to rush to hold them back so they don't fall on Javi and crush him. He signed a few more autographs and then hurried away, so we also escaped before we got trampled.

Thanks for the reports! And great to hear that Javi again has been noticed by the Spanish Royal court and Prime Minister plus other athletes...

Interesting GoldenSkate recap from Europeans:

https://goldenskate.com/2018/01/2018-european-figure-skating-championships-men/

Excerpt:

<The 2018 Russian National bronze medalist admitted that he is thrilled to compete against Fernandez.

“Honestly, Javier has been a role model for me for a long time,” he said. “Even when I was just a little kid. It is an honor to be on the podium with people who are such big figures in skating, who have proved themselves, and have already made history in our sport.”>

You were on a mission!!
Well, mission accomplished! What a beautiful present you gave him!
Thanks, again, Eppen, Tureis (and Evergreen is there too?) for your efforts and reports, they were incredible.
have a good trip back home.

And with the gala we have come to the end of our Euros adventure in Moscow. Eppen, evergreen and I have had a little bit of mixed feelings in the past couple of days. We were overjoyed by Javi's 6th win but also contemplating the idea that there is a chance this may be the last time eppen and I see Javi live on competition ice in case he doesn't even go to Worlds, since the two of us won't be there in PyeongChang. Who knows really? Probably not even Javi is 100% certain whether he will be in Milan, what he will do after the Olympics, not to mention whether and when he will retire. :confused2:

So with that slightly melancholic feeling I was getting my Spanish flag out before the start of the gala, immediately noticing the two Russian ladies a few seats away waving and giving a thumbs up at the flag. I realized I can't even recall any time I've taken out that flag here in Moscow without someone around me at least smiling. That's how respected and loved Javi is. I found that rather touching and heartwarming. And then we concluded he would probably do Danny Boy again, which I find overwhelming under the most ordinary circumstances. All these combined were foreshadowing a downcast farewell evening afterwards.

And then we had a scare right at the start of the gala. Javi was a no show at the opening. Would he not perform, despite being invited? He did mention after all that he would be going back to Toronto immediately after the competition. But thankfully there were other initial no shows as well who did perform as planned, so we felt more reassured. Even so, we saw very little of Tarasova/Morozov's program as we kept an eye on the skaters' entrance for a sighting of Javi. He did show up of course and on top did Black Betty which was a fun surprise.

Kudos to Javi for bringing a couple of big and beautiful jumps to the gala. We were just concluding that's how the 6 time champion and undisputed king of Europe should announce his presence, with a cracking 3Lo and 3A, when he crashed onto the ice just as he was skating by our sector. We were laughing so hard, especially that the program totally fell apart afterwards as he was improvising and editing his step sequence choreography all over the place, not once doing what he was supposed to for the music. It was quite frankly the worst Black Betty I've ever seen! :p Not that it mattered. He is such an engaging performer, he could sell even that. :luv17:

We couldn't be thankful enough that the organizers gave Javi the special treatment by singling him out as a soloist and the big final attraction of the finale. Quite frankly he absolutely deserves it. It really is mindblowing that he was able to win Euros 6 times in a row. And it was obvious he was enjoying himself. He was all smiles during the victory laps and photos. And to top it off, we learned that Javi doesn't need a door to leave the ice. He must have seen someone he knows in the first row of our sector, and he just lunged himself clean over the boards without even bothering to slow down to get to her. And then did the same to get back on the ice. Perhaps he can consider hurdles as the next phase of his sports career?

So with that we actually had a lovely and very fun evening for our farewell dinner before we head back home on our separate ways. Bye Moscow, you've been amazing!
